Legend IRL

Today’s weather report is calling for clouds with a chance of sandwiches. haha Not really, but when our nanny babysits for my little zombie and alien hybrid babies, she likes to tell them fantastical stories. She has a lot of charisma for a nanny.

Besides telling the kids fun stories, she’s a whiz at playing chess. She usually wins when we play. That’s why I brought her a bouquet of red roses. I grow them in my greenhouse, you know. When the children are taking a nap, we set up the chess board, get out some chips and guacamole to snack on, and play the game for an hour or so.

I’ll tell ya, our nanny is a legend in real life. I’m glad we hired her for the job. It wasn’t easy finding a nanny who saw no problem with a mixed race family.

PARAKEET STORY blue-parakeet-204698__180

Quite awhile ago I posted about a dream I had about a parakeet. http://wp.me/s3RE1e-parakeet

I couldn’t remember what happened in the dream, so I asked for suggestions. I did get two wonderful ideas from these lovely friends… Thanks so much! Hope you enjoy the poem/story! 🙂

Emily –  her suggestion = the zombie apocalypse

Kelly –   her suggestion = clipping wings of birds

~

OF BIRDS AND HEROES

Bobby Blue, the parakeet,

Was very loud, but could not tweet.

Escaped he did, from gilded cage;

He seemed to be in an awful rage.

He flew around with a terrible squawk,

And I was shocked, when he began to talk.

He told me not to clip his wings,

As he’d heard tell of terrible things.

He wanted us to leave our home,

For Zombies were about to roam.

It was the Zombie Apocalypse…

They’d take big bites, instead of nips.

We had to run and fly away;

No more fun and no more play.

We’d find a place to stay hidden,

For Zombies are scary and forbidden.

Bobby Blue and I, that day,

Packed our bags and went away.

Even though Bobby, the parakeet,

Only squawked, and could not tweet,

He saved us from the Apocalypse,

And also avoided wings with clips.

Well, we made it to the last letter in the A to Z Blog Challenge 2018.

Thanks so much to all that stopped by for a visit, and a peek into the mystery box of book titles. I appreciate all the likes, and comments you’ve so generously left here. 🙂

I’ll be doing a wrap-up/reflection post coming up soon.

Welcome to the 2018 edition of the A to Z Blogging Challenge!

All through the month of April, the challenge asks us to blog every day (except Sundays), and to go through the alphabet A to Z, connecting our posts to the letter of each day.

My idea for this time, my 5th to participate, is to showcase a book or two each day, and provide a tiny bit of information about them. These will not be a full book review, but just saying what it is about, and if I liked the book or not.

These books are mostly books that I already have on my shelves, and have read, or are on my to be read stacks. There will be a very few of them that I don’t already own, or have read.

I will also post a quote each day that has something to say about books, or reading.

Hope you enjoy, and maybe see a book or a few that you might want to read, too.

“Zombie Haiku”, by Ryan Mecum, is a really funny and unique book. I sort of have read it. I mean, I have seen it in the book store, and stood there reading some pages, on more than one occasion.

The pages are done in the Haiku poetry form, and tells the story of how the main character first becomes a Zombie, and what happens to him after. Some of it is pretty gross, but funny too, and if you like Zombie stories, you’ll get a kick from this one. I know I laughed a lot while reading some of them.

Shadow of a Ghost – Song Lyric Sunday

Shadow of a Ghost – Song Lyric Sunday

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 3/18/18

***

Today, for SLS, Helen has challenged us to find songs that have to do with shadows. Thanks, Helen!

This really was a challenge for me, because I couldn’t just think of one right off. I know there is the Moonshadow song by Cat Stevens, and I love it, but it seemed too obvious a choice. So, I looked on google for songs about shadows, and didn’t recognize any of them that were listed.

I then thought of typing in ‘ghost shadows’, because when do I not ever think about ghosts. Anyway, this song popped up, and I listened to it. I’d never heard of the singer, or the song. I was pleasantly surprised. This was a really good song, and it has great music.

Now, I don’t quite know what to say about the video. It is strange. There are zombies roaming around. First the singer is on stage singing, then there are zombies chasing her. Why? It’s like a horror movie type deal, but interesting to watch, and I wanted to follow the story to see what happened.

For a brand new to me song and singer, I give it a 10 out of 10. You know, I love horror stories, movies, and all things ghosts, so yeah, I liked this one a lot.

Anyway, give it a listen, see what you think.

“Shadow of a Ghost”, by Emma Lee, was released as a single from her album, “Backseat Heroine”, in 2012. It was written by Emma Lee and Karen Kosowski.

Red light, red light please turn green
Do you know what you’re doin’ to me?
Don’t you know I’ve got somewhere to be?
Midnight, midnight please come clean
Give me brand new air to breathe
Don’t you know I’m struggling?
When I need you most you’re a shadow of a ghost
You’re sleeping on the job
My slumbering god
When the whistle blows you’re a cinder in the smoke
So quick to disappear
I wonder are you even here?
Taxman, coming to collect
I’ve overpaid my debt
Don’t you know I’ve nothing left?
Thunder, thunder over head
Are you finished with me yet?
Don’t you know I’m soaking wet?
When I need you most you’re a shadow of a ghost
You’re sleeping on the job
My slumbering god
When the whistle blows you’re a cinder in the smoke
So quick to disappear
I wonder are you even here?
Even here…even here…even here…even here…
Goodbye, goodbye mystery
You’ve lead me to believe
My only hope is me
