WRITING 101 … LET SOCIAL MEDIA INSPIRE YOU

fd31260c-d41a-46f6-b728-7c4b91c779f7

For this assignment on the Writing 101 course, we were given a choice of some Twitter quotes to respond to. The above quote, by Leah Reich @ohheygreat is the one I chose.

My first thought was, do these people know that their tweet is being used as an assignment? Do we need to find them, follow them, and let them know?

Then I was thinking, well…if I was to actually respond to their tweet, it would have to be within the Twitter guidelines of the 140-characters or less word limit.

I’m on Twitter a lot, and enjoy tweeting, responding, and the conversations that spontaneously occur. It’s fun.

Then, I was thinking, well, so far I haven’t said anything abut the quote in the chosen tweet.

Then I’m thinking, I have no idea how to do any of the hovering, embedding, copying/pasting, URL things that were suggested to put the quote on my post. I almost gave up doing this one at all. But, then I tried saving the picture of the tweet/quote, and then I could at least have a picture of it on here. I think it worked.

I’m now thinking I’m thinking too much about it all.

So, the quote, as seen in the picture says that self storage is where we store our past selves. Ok…cool…seems legitimate. We’re born, our brains begin to soak up tons of information, and it’s all up there in our head somewhere, right? If I really try, I can imagine the brain as a living storage building business. For each area of learning…say, language, feelings, talents learned, studies in school lessons, compassion, and empathy, love, things we hear, see, taste…all our learning is kept in these separate rooms. We respond to outside life events by opening the door to the appropriate unit in our brain, according to how much experience we’ve had.

Anyway, all our past is stored in our self storage brain, to be used in fractions of seconds. It’s amazing how that works.

Oh, if I actually responded to this person’s tweet, in true Twitter fashion, I would have just said …Cool, I agree…or more likely I’d would just favorite and re-tweet it. 🙂

SHARE YOUR WORLD … WEEK # 36sywbanner

More fun questions and answers for the week, from Cee! http://ceenphotography.com/2015/09/07/share-your-world

  1. If you were a pen, what type, style, and color would you be?

I go through so many pens and markers when I write and draw. Some I like better than others, and those that start skipping, or the ink is too light, get tossed pretty quickly. My all time favorite pen was one I had back in elementary school, in 5th and 6th grade. We’d just began to use ink to write papers with. This one was a regular fountain pen, with the ink cartridges you pop into the barrel. My pen was aqua, with a see through barrel, and my ink of choice was peacock blue. 🙂 Fountain pens have a whole different feel to them, when you form letters and words on paper. I really wish I still had that pen.

2.  How many languages do you speak?

English is what I speak. Southern U.S. English I guess you’d say, as we do have some unique ways of saying things. I’m not fluent in any other language, but know quite a few words and sentences from others. Being from Texas, we hear and read lots of Spanish spoken and written, so I can pretty much understand what is being said. Then as we were in the military, we travelled and lived in Germany for awhile, and also Japan for almost 2 years there. I learned a few words of both of those. Then in school, I took French classes, and remember a little of that, too.

3. Are you a listener or a talker?

I’m a good listener. I’m usually pretty interested in what people have to say, and always like hearing the details of the things they are talking about. It’s funny, though…I have ADHD, so get distracted a lot, interrupt *squirrel*,  may not look like I’m paying attention to what is being said, but I hear it and understand whatever someone is talking about. Sometimes, I do some talking, but I stumble on the words, and have a hard time speaking what it is I want to say. Maybe that’s why I write…it’s much easier than talking.:)

4. Rather Have: Which would you rather have…2 million dollars, or true love?

Give me the 2 million dollars, please! I could sure use it! I already have the love of my family.

5. Bonus Question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I’m grateful for getting through the past week or so, because it’s been sad not to have my sweet cat around, since she passed away. For this week in the days ahead, I’ll look forward to celebrating my grand-daughter’s 2nd birthday! There will be a party, and everything! 🙂

Thanks again, Cee, for asking interesting questions! 🙂

Wal-mart (before we ever had one of those). A variety of items to buy, and

most everything was cheaper than at a department store. It seemed to be a bit

junky in there, though…crowded shelves, narrow aisles, lots of people shopping,

no real arrangement that I could see of the things for sale…and we kids loved going there!

SHARE YOUR WORLD … WEEK # 34sywbanner

Here are the questions, and my answers from Cee’s Blog Challenge http://ceenphotography.com/2015/08/24/share-your-world

  1. Was school easy or difficult for you? How so?

If you’re talking about elementary and high school, I’d say they were pretty easy for me. I did the usual amount of studying, and passed all my classes…some just barely, though. The ones I didn’t like were math, and P.E. because I wasn’t any good at them. Looking back at old report cards, they definitely reflect that. History and science were ok, and interesting, and English was the best, because we got to write essays…my favorite.

2. What is your favorite animal?

Cats and dogs are my favorite animals to have as pets. I’ve had one or the other (more than one and more than one at the same time) for as long as I can remember. I’ve had birds, gerbils, a box turtle (well, Herbie was my daughter’s), rabbits, ducks, chickens, and fish (which soon enough gave me a phobia of them). As for non-pet animals, my favorite would be the Tiger. The Tiger is my spirit animal, and I’ve known this from a very early age. I also think giraffes are beautiful.

3. If you had to have your vision corrected, would you rather have glasses or contacts?

Glasses…I’ve worn them since I was a kid in elementary school. I just couldn’t willingly stick something like a contact into my eye. I know…most people have no problem with this, but for me…no. I have the hardest time even, when a stray eyelash, or anything gets in my eye. Now, having glaucoma, I have to use eye drops, and that is ok, but I still don’t like it.

4. List: Name at least five television shows (past or present) you enjoyed.

I don’t watch a lot of television right now. One show I do watch (every episode/every season) is Big Brother…the reality show. I do like a lot of the other reality shows, but don’t watch them regularly. My favorites from long ago (and now I DVR them to watch) are the old black and white sit-coms, such as “Father Knows Best”, “Leave it to Beaver”, “I Love Lucy”…and so many more I still like to watch.

5. Bonus Question: What are you grateful for this week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Well, we got a smattering of rain last week. There was a big, noisy thunderstorm in the middle of the night, but didn’t produce a lot of rain. I got to go to lunch, and story-time with my daughter and grand-daughter, which is always fun. Next week? There is no telling what will be going on…hope it is something interesting, though.

SHARE YOUR WORLD … WEEK # 33sywbanner

http://ceenphotography.com/2015/08/17/share-your-world

This week’s questions for Share Your World from Cee, are …

  1. What are some words that just make you smile?

These two words make me smile every single time… “Grammy” and “Bop” …these are what my grandchildren call me.

If I hear someone say, “Let’s go to some yard sales/garage sales” …I smile, because I love going.

It never fails to make me laugh when I see bloopers, misprints, and malapropisms in print.

2.  You’re given $500,000 tax free (any currency). What do you spend it on?

I’d share with my kids, buy a new house (ours needs so much work, it would be easier to start over with a new one), and a car, because I don’t have one at the moment.

3. What subject would you like to study in depth, if given the time to do so.?

Astronomy…anything to do with space, stars, planets, the sky, clouds, weather, alien beings, time warps, and anything mysterious and otherworldly.

Guitar Lessons…I want to learn to play so much…and I practice all the time, but can’t seem to progress. So, maybe lessons would help?

4. Would you rather be stuck in a small plane with bad turbulence for 2 hours, or be a passenger in a car, racing the Daytona 500?

Definitely in a plane…I love to fly…as long as I can be sure we wouldn’t crash, the turbulence would just be an exciting bit of fun for a little while.  And, I don’t like driving, or riding in a car that is going fast, at all, plus going around in a circle for a long time would make me too dizzy.

5. Bonus Queston: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up/

From last week, I’m happy I managed to figure out how to put a picture on my blog from my iphone. At least it worked the  one time I tried it. Knock wood, that I remember how to do it again. For the upcoming week… rain chances again! I never get tired of it raining, since we usually have so little.

SHARE YOUR WORLD … WEEK # 32sywbanner

This week’s questions and answers for Cee’s  Share Your World http://ceenphotography.com/2015/08/10/share-your-world are as follows:

  1. Are you a collector of anything?

I would call what I do more of accumulating things. I used to collect glass figurines I’d buy at a variety store…mostly animals. But now, I just have a lot of stuff in different areas, none of which I’m obsessive about (though some in the family would disagree) 🙂 I would say I’ve accumulated a lot…a lot of books…all kinds and subjects. Then there is office supplies/scrapbooking supplies/art supplies/craft supplies…never get enough of those. For some reason I can’t resist a purse at a yard sale…the more unique, the better, so I’m always adding more, and never carrying them at all. 🙂

2. What is your biggest fear or phobia?

Fish…they scare me, with their staring eyes, and gaping, opening and shutting mouth…Ugh! Dont’ want to eat them, don’t want to look at them, don’t want to be anywhere near them.

3. Do you prefer reading coffee table books (picture), biographies, fiction, non-fiction, educational?

I’ve always read all kinds of books, but mostly biography, and non-fiction, because they are true. There are some fiction series that I like, though, and will read them all in order.

4. Complete this sentence: If I Must be reincarnated, in the next life I want to be___?

A rainbow. Don’t know if that is possible, but it would be nice. Rainbows are pretty, they are mysterious, ethereal, and they appear and disappear on a whim. People gaze up at them, and admire their pretty colors. And it doesn’t hurt to have a pot of gold waiting by my feet? (well, if rainbows have feet, I don’t know…I’ve never found the pot of gold, yet) …If I can’t be a rainbow, I’d like to come back as a famous rock and roll star, playing guitar on stage, and actually singing in tune (which I can’t do now). Maybe, from these two answers, I just want to have people notice and like me? 😉

5. Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I can barely remember last week…was resting up after having family visit the week before (grandchildren have so much energy and keep me going all the time)…as for next week…maybe some relief from the hot weather? Rain would be a nice change from the 105 degrees we had yesterday.

So there you have it…more fun questions and answers from Cee!
