#JusJoJan 2019 Daily Prompt – Jan. 3rd

***

Your prompt for JusJoJan 2019, January 3rd, is your blog. Why did you start blogging? How did you come up with your theme, if you have one? How has it changed your life? Tell us about your blog in your jot! Enjoy!

I started blogging on Blog Spot in 2013. I wanted to write about all kinds of things, first about my true experience ghost stories, and second to post my fan fiction story, “Two Souls: Into the Fire”. I spent a very long time writing it (over a year if not more), and I’m proud of the fact that I did it, and finished it.

I also wrote a bunch of essays on several different subjects. Then I discovered the A to Z Blog Challenge, which I completed there.

However, almost nobody saw or read any of this. There was maybe 3 people ever. One very helpful blogger did suggest I move over to Word Press, which I did. I’m so happy I did, as I’ve found WP to be full of wonderful, friendly, and helpful bloggers from all over the world. I appreciate each and every one of you who have stopped by to like, and comment over the years.

Now here’s how my almost first post went over there.

Seems to me everyone uses really cool sounding names for their online personalities and blogs. I always want to know why they chose it…what does it mean…is it supposed be a secret…a special code?  Hardly anyone will say why.  I won’t keep y’all in suspense.  This is “why” I chose mine and what they mean to me:

First, my online name…ghostmmnc…this is in reference to my favorite character in my favorite book “Lost Souls” by Poppy Z. Brite.

Second, my blog name and statement..teleportingweena, and why I chose this.

Teleport according to the dictionary is to move without physical contact either by mystical means or by conversion of matter or energy for transmission.
That is what I am doing by sending my thoughts out into the ether when I push publish on my blog posts. Transmitting them this way is very mystical to me, because I have no idea how it works.

Weena was one of our cats. Actually Rowena, but we called her Weena most of the time.  I believe she actually teleported herself once right here in the house!

Time machine…a hypothetical device that permits travel into the past and future.  Also the subject of one of my favorite books & movies “The Time Machine” by H.G. Wells. The female character in both was named Weena!

Weena (Rest In Peace)

Weena’s Story

First, the name of this blog… ‘teleportingweena’… Weena (Rowena) was our tabby cat. I think she teleported herself, somehow. I don’t know where she went, but she was gone. She was an indoor cat, never outside, so there wasn’t any way she got lost out there. She was in the bedroom (the one with the levitating mirror), when we saw her last. She has her hiding places, here in the house, and we searched everywhere. She’d been gone for hours. We tore the house apart calling and looking for her, but she was gone. In despair of ever finding her again, she suddenly appeared…right in the spot we last saw her. There was no noise of her coming back, no sound of her scrabbling out of an overlooked hiding spot…she just materialized right there in the bedroom. She wasn’t frightened, or anything…she was just sitting there. Of course we made a fuss over her, and all was back to normal. But, where was she? What did she see? I wish we knew.

I’ve only changed the look of this blog once. The first WP theme I used was pink & black! Can you imagine? It was good, but I got tired of it. I like how it looks now, with the sky blue, which is one of my favorite colors.

I still blog about the the same things off and on… my fan fiction story, strange and weird things that happen, short stories & poems, essays, and challenges. After 6 years of blogging, I still love it.

So there you have it.
Welcome to my Blog!

For some reason cats love to get under things, playing hide and seek, or peek-a-boo. Here are three kitties doing just that.

Today’s prompt word is, ‘Teleport’, and is one of my favorite words and subjects, as you can see by the name of my blog.

Here’s a post I wrote in 2016 about the book, “The Time Machine”, by H. G. Wells. Some of you may have seen this before, but a lot of you haven’t, so this is a good time to show it again, and mention how my blog got it’s name.

“The Time Machine”, by H. G. Wells. It was first written and published in 1895.

I’m pretty sure I got this book from the local library book sale. I get most of my used books there, as they have really good prices for them…50 cents for paperbacks, and $1.00 for hardback.

I actually had never read this book before. I’d seen the movies made from it, and both of the ones I saw were good. I preferred the one made in 1960 best. It starred Rod Taylor, Alan Young, and Yvette Mimieux.

The subject of the book is of course a time machine. A scientist had invented a machine that would be able to transport a person to a different time in history, either past or future. He gave a presentation to his fellow colleagues, but they were skeptical of the whole thing. After the meeting, the Time Traveler, as the main character was called in the book, tried out his machine.

As the time for their next meeting commenced, everyone showed up except for the host. Then, just before everyone was getting ready to leave, he shows up, all bedraggled. He told them he’d time traveled to the future, and he’d tell them all about it.

This is the main part of the book, his telling of his adventures in the future time. He was in the same location as they were in now, just way into the future. He’d met a strange group of people, called Eloi, and their enemies, called the Morlocks. At one point, he even loses his time machine, and has to find it before he can return to the present time.

He is befriended by a sweet girl Eloi, named Weena, who shows him around, and he wants to bring her back with him. It’s all very interesting how he deals with the world of the future, that is so different.

I would recommend reading this book.

That brings me to the name of my blog…’teleportingweena’. 🙂 I chose it because I love the story of the Time Machine, and the girl, Weena. It is about time travel, and you never know exactly where you’ll land, or what you’ll see. Just like the vision I had when I started this blog. Also, our tabby cat was named Rowena, and we called her Weena. I’m convinced she could teleport herself to other dimensions. Sound kind of wacky, I know, but cats are mysterious, so you never quite know for sure. And now, Weena has been teleported across the Rainbow Bridge, and we miss her.

This is 'Weena' ...she teleports herself!

I did read the definitions of ‘time travel’ and ‘teleportation’. Here’s what I understood from that: Time Travel (a time machine) will send you through time…past or future. Teleportation (no machine), moves you to a different location in the present time.

Have you ever been teleported somewhere? I think I have. 🙂

Today we are to post a portrait for the challenge. Thanks, Cassia!

I don’t think I have any portraits of people (at least any I could post, as I don’t usually have photos of people on here)

But, I do have this framed portrait of Weena!

GOOD MORNING

Standard

This is ‘Weena’ …she teleports herself!

GOOD MORNING!

Happy Spring!

All is good here. Yesterday we got up to 93 degrees, and will be higher today, I think. Wish I could send y’all who are still having cold weather some of this heat!

Just a note… we are changing cable provider companies this morning. The cable guy should be here between 8 and 10, so they say. Hope it doesn’t take too long to switch over. Guess I’ll be off line for awhile, until it all gets straightened out. I’ll be back to posting soon, and also catching up with what you’ve posted.

Wishing y’all a wonderful day! 🙂 xo

Burnt Punch (German)

img_4500 img_4502

The Burnt Punch photo was taken when we lived in Germany. Our neighbors invited us over for a Christmas meal and had this, also. I’d forgotten what it was called, so looked under ‘burning sugar cone’ and this is what it said about it. It’s a German tradition, called Feverzaugenbowle (burnt punch). It contains wine, fruits and spices. The solid sugar cone is soaked in rum, then set afire, and it melts/drips into the metal punch bowl. 🙂 Another traditional German drink we were introduced to was the Rumtopf. This is a crock jar, that fruits are added to, layered, with rum. We had a lovely meal, that included actual reindeer meat, and boiled chestnuts. They lit the candles on their  Christmas tree, and we listened to classical music. I imagine we also played some card games, too, as that is what we did quite frequently. 🙂
