This way back old classic country song has always been a favorite, as I’ve heard it many times over the years. My mom & dad loved it, and so does my husband. I hadn’t heard it in a long time, but isn’t it funny how song lyrics and tunes come back to you. I could almost sing the whole song.

Anyway, in reading about this song, I found that it got banned by lots of radio stations. That’s because it was a drinking song. It tells the story of someone lamenting over a lost love relationship, and drinking to ease the painful memories.

But, after studying his fan base, Webb Pierce figured most of them liked to drink, so went ahead and promoted it. He was right. It became a big hit.

This song has been recorded by many other artists over the years. I’ve included one that George Strait did. Still, I prefer the original.

There stands the glass that will ease all my pain
That will settle my brain it's my first one today
There stands the glass that will hide all my tears
That will drown all my fear, brother I'm on my way

I'm wondering where you are tonight
I'm wondering if you are all right
I wonder if you think of me in my misery

There stands the glass fill it up to the brim
Til my troubles grow dim, it's my first one today

I'm wondering where you are tonight
I'm wondering if you are all right
I wonder if you think of me in my misery

There stands the glass fill it up to the brim
Til my troubles grow dim, it's my first one today

Here’s a couple of oldie country songs I remember well. My husband used to listen to these all the time, as he’s a big fan of country music, especially the old time country. I like a lot of country music, but it’s not my favorite genre. These two do seem to stay around in my memory of hearing them, though, and I do like them.
