Haboob!

Haboob!

***

Here’s some photos of the Haboob we had here yesterday afternoon!

It was a wall of dirt barreling through the city, with very strong winds. Then it poured down rain.

The first three photos are from the local weather station, and shows the brown roiling dirt coming closer to the city.

Even my phone sounded an alert…Dust Storm Warning!

The last two are what I saw from our back door. The sky was all dirty, gritty brown. It lasted awhile. We do get these Haboobs every once in awhile here.

We were even mentioned on the national news!

It’s Gonna Be Hot – One Liner Wednesday

One-Liner Wednesday – Heretofore

It will be 362 degrees on Thursday

So, I was watching the TV weather forecast the other day, and the chart showing temperatures for this week was very surprising! It showed Thursday’s as being 362 degrees! The weather person came back on to say it was a mistake. hahaha

Question # 26

26. Does your hometown experience all four seasons? If not, which ones does it skip over?

My Answer:

We have all 4 seasons here.

Summer time feels like the longest one, as it is very hot.

Winter time gets cold, and we get snow, but it doesn’t last very long.

Spring time seems short, as we have a few nice days, then we are hot again. Early spring we usually have sand storms.

Fall days are great, but again, they don’t last long. We go from a few wonderful days, then it gets too cold.

To explain about the winter days here, some may think it’s strange. We have some below freezing days, but then the next day will be nice and warm. It’s like a roller coaster around here during the winter. It can snow one day, then the next will be bar-be-que outdoors weather.

The spring is the same kind of strange. We’ll have just right temperatures, then it will turn freezing again, sometimes in the same day. This will happen with the sand storms, too. One will blow through, then be nice again, withing a few hours.

Awhile back, our weather people announced we had won some kind of award for the hardest weather of anywhere to forecast.

Needless to say, the weather is a main topic of conversation people talk about everywhere here. 🙂

ONE LINER WEDNESDAY – DID I JUST HEAR THAT?

Standard

ONE LINER WEDNESDAY – DID I JUST HEAR THAT?

“The sun is being regurgitated.”

“The clouds will start to coagulate…”

“…wear your rain sufficient dressing…”

I’m lumping these one liners together, because they all came from television weather newscasters in the last couple of days. What they said really made us do a double-take, and ask, “Did I just hear that?” We had to laugh!

On viewing the eclipse, one national weather news person remarked, “The sun is being regurgitated.” This was after totality, and the sun became visible again.

Our local weather person, just ad-libbing during the weather report, said the following on two different days. “The clouds will start to coagulate together to bring us rain.” and “Make sure you wear your rain sufficient dressing today.”

Weathered wood.

I like the look of weathered wood. This is wood that has been out in the weather for a long time. It’s been through scorching heat waves, torrential rains, hail storms, and whatever else the weather throws at it. The wood can be old fence posts or slats, or barn siding, building pallets, or driftwood. It’s all weathered the weather.

There’s a certain look to weathered wood. It has turned a silvery gray, for the most part. It has aged, and aged well.

Lots of wooden projects can be done with this wood. People make all sorts of things, from whimsical photo frames, to beautiful furniture. I have a few pieces, myself. Our neighbor did a lot of wood projects. We have a couple of outdoor benches, and a nightstand table. I really like the nightstand table. It has a shelf underneath, and a table top. There is also a wood framed mirror that tilts. Thank you DB! 🙂

WEEKLY WEATHER – HAIL & SOCS weekly-weather

Weekly Weather: Hail

This challenge is to post a weather related photo each week. There will be a prompt word. This week it is hail. Click the above link to find out how to join in! 🙂

These three photos are showing hail. We had a pretty big storm come through, which dumped a lot of hail on my daughter’s yard. It accumulated into piles, especially in the corners of the house and flower bed. It actually took a few days for it to melt off! At our house we didn’t get anything like this amount, maybe a few, and we don’t even live that far from each other. Weather is quirky sometimes. 🙂

NABLOPOMO – # 12 – WHETHER THE WEATHERNaBloPoMo_2015

untitled

For today’s NaBloPoMo – # 12 post, I’m combining it with the dVerse Poets prompt from yesterday. They wanted us to write about what the weather was like at the time, wherever you were in the world. It is also for their ‘Open Link Night’, where we can post any poem we want. Check out the dVerse Poets blog here …:)

WHETHER THE WEATHER

Yesterday was blusty, gusty,

Today we hit the freeze.

Yesterday was windy, dusty…

Today a sunny breeze.

Cold or hot, you never know…

Autumn brings such a special tang…

A beautiful day, or a fall of snow…

We’ll roll with the Yin and the Yang.
