For the days up until Christmas I’ll be sharing some short memories of Christmases past that I remember.

***

We’ve lived in this house and neighborhood for about 25 years now, and it’s a good place. The neighbors are nice and friendly, and everyone watches out for the others, and helps out when needed.

For a long time it was the same, but then some moved away, and some passed away, but there sure was some good memories from Christmas time.

Everyone would make treats to give to everybody else, and deliver them in the days right before the holiday. There was nothing real elaborate – just a batch of home made cookies or candy, a cheese ball and crackers, cheese dip and chips – things like that.

Most times I sent over decorated cut out cookies with a Christmas theme, and one time a decorated bundt cake. Once I embroidered dish towels to add with the cookies, or added an ornament for their tree. Another neighbor gave us a basket with Christmas mugs and hot chocolate mix.

It was nice to walk down the sidewalk, looking at the lights, and delivering our little presents. It really put everyone in the Christmas spirit.

Did you notice the date? 7/10/17? It’s like a palindrome, which reads the same front ways and back ways! 🙂

How do you like to spend a rainy day?

Since we are lucky to get some rain once in awhile, I mostly just look at the rain falling down, and going ahhhh!

List at least five favorite treats. (They do not have to be sugary).

Trick or Treat time! Halloween is a treat because I love everything about it. It’s my favorite of the holidays. Plus…candy and costumes! 🙂

Going to the bookstore is a treat.

Going to yard sales is a treat. I can usually find many treats there.

Chocolate of any kind is always a treat.

Rainy days are a great treat! I love them.

Where’s your favorite place to take out-of-town guests?

We don’t have out of town guests, ever. But once in awhile my daughter and family come into town (are family members considered guests?) We usually make a trip to the amusement park, because my grandson likes to go.

You are trapped in an elevator, who would you want to be trapped with?

The mister, because he could probably figure out a way to get us out.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

We had rain! I want more rain.

This time of year is the only time we seem to have the treat of Chex Mix. I know we could make it any time we wanted to, but for some reason, we don’t. It is just a special snack at Christmas time.

They have some you can buy pre-made in a bag, but it just isn’t the same as home-made. One year I found out something the hard way. The recipe calls for butter. I didn’t have any real butter, so used margarine. Don’t do what I did! It was a big ‘ol mess of soggy cereal. Maybe that is because margarine has a high water content? I don’t know, but I had to start all over with making the Chex Mix the ‘right’ way. This second batch turned out perfect! 🙂
