Happy Monday! Thanks for the questions, Melanie! 🙂

***

At 12 a.m. on December 31st/Jan 1st, what will you be doing?  (use your own time zone please)

I’ll be sound asleep! We don’t stay up to ring in the New Year. But if I do wake up, I’ll be cursing the people in our neighborhood for popping fire crackers.

Is there a tradition you have for New Year’s Eve?

None at all. We don’t go out, we don’t party, we are boring. But, on New Year’s day I try to have some black-eyed peas, as it’s supposed to be for good luck.

Do you have any hope or reason you find that next year will be better?

I hope things will be better and that the virus will go away, but doubt that will happen.

What’s the biggest personal lesson you learned during 2021?

To stay away from people.

  • What is your least favorite holiday side dish?  (for any holiday) … mince pie
  • What is the ugliest or most tasteless decoration you’ve ever seen? … can’t remember seeing any ugly or tasteless ones
  • What is a cherished or unusual (either or both) family tradition from your childhood?   (this is the recycled Evil Squirrel question that got bungled by moi, and sounded like a packaging question.  My bad). … Just getting together with family at grandma’s house for lunch.
  • You’re walking down the street, feeling great — what holiday song would be playing in the background? (aw, play along. I realize some of you prefer a very silent night.  It is an option to pass on this question too.  No offense will be taken). … Feliz Navidad

What is your opinion of the state of health care in your country?  Adequate or inadequate?  What could be done to improve it?

I think it’s adequate, but just barely. Insurance costs too much for what it provides most of the time. I don’t like that they basically have control over what medical care a person gets. Prescriptions for medicine are way too high, too. That said, for us two, we have great insurance from being in the military, plus medicare. Our out of pocket charges are very low on doctor visits, hospital stays, and medicines. We are thankful and lucky.

What are two words that describe you best?

Distracted and animal lover

Do you have a morning routine? If so, what it’s like?

Get up, bathroom, blood sugar test, coffee, read blogs/write blogs, read book, breakfast, watch TV & more reading.

What’s something that really makes your blood race?

Advertisements on TV, especially those about poor animals. Also news except weather reports. I try to avoid anything else.

Do you enjoy singing festive songs during *insert festive celebration that you observe to replace “Christmas” if it’s not relevant to you * Christmas carols or songs?[

I can’t carry a tune at all, but I sing anyway. I like Christmas songs, but don’t go around singing them. I don’t even listen to them very much.

Thanks for hosting the weekly challenge, Melanie! Thanks ES for providing today’s questions! 🙂

If you had the power to strike one person in your life permanently speechless, who would it be? (Real names aren’t necessary, vague descriptions are fine… and yes, this is being asked in fun and not to be mean)  … Maybe not in my actual life, as I don’t personally know any of these people – but I strike any and all politicians speechless.

If you could relive your childhood over again, what’s one thing from this modern world today you’d want to take back with you? … My phone

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple are the standard colors of the rainbow.
Name something you love (or greatly admire/appreciate) for all six major colors of the rainbow! (Sorry indigo, you’re just blue-purple.  Hot pink?  You’re too flashy!) …

Red – apples 🍎

orange – sunsets 🌇

yellow – flowers 🌻

green – trees 🌲

blue – sky 🔷

purple – fabrics? 🟣

If you were to open the world’s most accurate fortune cookie, what would your fortune inside it read? This one that I actually got from a fortune cookie one time.

Tap into your imagination, it provides interesting results

Santa’s tired of people leaving him out cookies and milk on Christmas Eve night!  If you really wanted to get on Santa’s good side, what would you leave out for him to eat/drink instead? (This question applies whether you celebrate Christmas or not.  It’s just for fun, so imagination?  Welcome!  )

Coffee in a to-go cup, and peanut butter crackers

What are some red flags to watch out for in daily life?  … When you’re driving along and you see a truck with a long load, there is usually a red flag attached. You should watch out for that and not run into them.

What obstacles would you include in the ‘world’s most amazing obstacle course”? … To just stand absolutely still for a period of time, say 15 minutes. You can breathe and blink, etc. but you must not move your arms or legs or sway back and forth, or look all around. This would be impossible for me, because I cannot sit or stand still without fidgeting!

Who is the best movie or book villain in your opinion?  (‘book’ is included because some folks don’t watch movies) … So many awful ones to pick from. Maybe those two guys in the movie ‘Silence of the Lambs’. – Hannibel Lecter and Buffalo Bill.

What, in your opinion, is the most beautiful/handsome part of your face? (no dissing yourself please, we’re all beautiful/handsome!) ,,, Guess my eyes if I have to say something. I like the color – green. For a long time I didn’t like my nose, but it’s a kind of inherited ? kind, as my gran-dad and my dad had the same. I guess I like it okay now, as it seems to show some of my Native American ancestry.

GRATITUDE SECTION  🦃🕊

Next week on Thursday, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving.   What are some foods you enjoy for your festive celebration dinners?  (Doesn’t have to be Thanksgiving, as I realize the whole world isn’t participating in ‘our’ holiday) … When the kids were little we always had the traditional Thanksgiving meals of turkey, dressing, and all the side dishes, plus a desert or two. Later on we sometimes did this, but sometimes just regular whatever we felt like eating that day as usual. Lately we two just have a turkey TV dinner. It’s okay, easy to fix. We aren’t that fond of turkey anyway.

Thanks for the weekly questions, Melanie! Happy Monday! 🙂

How many pillows do you sleep with?  If over one or two, is it because you sleep better ‘propped up’ a little?

The more pillows the better. There are at least 12, plus some more on the side. I switch them around a lot, because I can never get comfortable.

What would be the worst thing you could put in a piñata?

Lots of things would be awful in a pinata! Anything liquid, anything that would explode, anything nasty, stinging insects, and on and on.

(for those unfamiliar with piñatas, they’re a popular party ‘game’ especially at children’s parties.  Made of paper maché the idea is to hit the thing which is on a rope or tied in the air somehow with a stick or something, and get the prize if you smush it open.  It’s filled with candy and small toys usually)

What noise annoys you the most?

Advertisements on TV!!!!! I hate them all. They are loud and annoying and stupid, and they run them way too many times a day.

If cartoon physics suddenly replaced real physics, what are some things you would want to try?

Umm – I don’t understand this question. What are cartoon physics in the first place? Is it like the psychic hot line? Is it physical exercise? Is it like a science class in school? Don’t know that I’d try anything – wouldn’t even know what to do. hahaha

Time for another set of questions to answer, this time from ES (Evil Squirrel & his Shelf Critters Characters!) Find a recent post here

***

  1. What was the very first popular song you ever remember taking a liking to?  I’m not talking about children’s songs or old traditional songs… but the kind of songs you’d hear on the radio.
  2. I remember hearing this one all the time on the radio, and I liked it so I went and bought the 45 record. I think it might have been the very first record I ever bought with my own money. It was 1963. I still have that same record.
  3. “Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport”, by Rolf Harris:

  1. ***
  2. Are you one of those people who get queasy at sight of blood, or could you watch an open heart surgery?
  3. No blood doesn’t bother me at all.
  4. Who or what do you feel is lurking right behind you, just waiting to ambush you and make your life a living hell (or “heck” for those with delicate sensibilities)?
  5. I don’t know, since I’m not afraid of the usual suspects like ghosts or spiders. I just hope a fish isn’t back there staring at me with those freaky eyes! I do have nightmares about fish rising up out of lakes, oceans, aquariums and coming after me.
  6. What is the gaudiest thing you have ever worn?
  7. Let me see … I guess it might be a necklace I made a few years ago. It was a long silver chain, and I hung all kinds of doo dads from the links – all of the links had something goofy hanging from them. I wore it out in public too, and got a lot of cool comments on it.
  8. Fess up!  What was something you did as a child that got you into BIG trouble?
  9. Well, I already wrote about me writing on walls, which I got in big trouble for. What else? I had plenty of disagreements and fights with my sister – normal sibling stuff. Oh, if I didn’t like some dress or other I’d on purpose cut holes in it, or rip something on it.
  10. (Gratitude Question – Always Optional):  What are you looking forward to as the festive season approaches?
  11. Nothing much. The Mr. & I don’t exchange presents or decorate any more, so it’s just like any other day. It’s just fun to see what our grand-kids get & do. I’m Not looking forward to the TV playing tons of holiday movies, and the radio stations playing a month’s worth of Christmas songs. Just no – ugh

Name something you wouldn’t want to run into in a dark forest or in an abandoned building  (yeah it’s a retread.  But there are new participants to SYW too who probably never answered it) … I’d hate to see a fish in either of these places. It would be pretty improbable, though. So I’d say an axe murderer. Still, I’d take my chances with the murderer than with the fish. I could at least run away, or limp or hobble away since I don’t do running, or talk him out of killing me. With the fish, I’d just immediately die on the spot I’d be so scared.

Thanks for the questions, Melanie!

***

(Purely whimsical supposition.  Suspend disbelief for a bit)
If you were a ghost, what location do you think you would haunt? Is it the same or different from the location you’d want to haunt?

I’d probably just stay home just like now. Although, I could probably go wherever I wanted to go. I’d not be stuck in one place, so I’d pick new locations all the time. I’d hang around spying on people, and maybe giving them a little scare now and then for fun.

What do you see in your mind’s eye when you close your eyes?  (I know somebody will answer ‘the inside of my eyelids”, so I took the temptation away by answering that first! 😜   Feel free to use that answer if you like though, or pass. It’s ALL good!)

I wrote a whole thing about this once upon a time, but of course I can’t find it now. So … It’s all black, then kinda gray, then some red, then some silver geometric shapes, like windows and squigglies, and ghosts, and sometimes I really think I can see ‘through’ my eyelids and see whatever is in front of me. Yep, I’ve tried this.

If a Semi (Big Rig in Americanese) (lorry or trolley over the pond) were about to smash into a crowd, and you could divert the vehicle’s course to hit only one person, would you?  How would you decide who would become the victim?

If I could divert the truck’s course, then I’d make it so it wouldn’t crash into anyone. And if I was that powerful, then I could probably levitate the truck to pass over everyone in the way.

GRATITUDE SECTION

Please feel free to share what makes you feel warm and cozy when the wind blows cold? Alternatively (for those on the other side of the world), what makes you feel relaxed and comfortable when the thermometer starts rising?

My heating pad is great for keeping warm on those cold days. Space heater is nice, too. Also my black shawl wrap is soft and cozy.

Here are this week’s questions from Melanie, and answers from me! Thanks, Melanie! 🙂

***

(Two ‘seasonal’ and two plain today)

What is the scariest game (board or on-line) you ever may have played?  … The only game that might be considered scary was the Ouija board. I thought it was fun … until one time my kids were playing with it and contacted a known spirit named Seth. That was scary and they never played it again. I wrote about that in  this post  … and this is the wiki information about Seth in  this post

What’s just ‘over the rainbow” for you? … Over, under, sideways, down … it’s all sky.

Do you have to watch something upbeat after watching a suspense or horror movie so you can go to sleep? … I love horror movies, and no I don’t have to read or watch something upbeat afterwards to get to sleep. There was one book that was so scary I couldn’t have it in the house. That was ‘The Demonologist’, by Ed and Lorraine Warren.

Is there intent behind every action? … Nope I don’t think so, not every single action. Sometimes you do something without even thinking anything about it, automatically. Big things we do think ahead to what we are doing, visualizing the outcome. But little actions such as maybe doodling on a piece of paper while talking on the phone, or drumming your fingers on the desk – well, those just happen with no special intent.
