Stream of Consciousness Saturday & Just Jot It January

The Friday Reminder for #SoCS & #JusJoJan Daily Prompt, Jan. 20th, 2018

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “oc.” Find a word that starts with “oc” and use it in your post. Bonus points if you start and end with your post with an “oc” word. Have fun!

O’Casey the ocelot screamed at two o’clock in the early morning of October 31st.

He was in charge of cleaning the giant aquarium at the Oceanside Museum, and it had to be done in the wee hours before the public came in to observe the underwater realms.

This being Halloween, he was a bit spooked anyway, and when the occupant of the aquarium, Toby the octopus, had given him a startle, by slithering from behind a decorative rock, he just lost all control.

O’Casey was a bit embarrassed on this occasion, especially as his scream had gone an octave higher than the piercing noise of a smoke alarm.

Toby just laughed and waved his arms around in a friendly manner. He loved playing a joke on O’Casey, and knew they’d remain friends for as long as they lived, even if they were both octogenarians.

note: written with minimal rearranging of one sentence, otherwise just looked up some ‘oc’ words, and wrote as it came to me.

The Friday Reminder for #SoCS & #JusJoJan Daily Prompt, Jan. 13th, 2018

This day’s prompt suggestion is a bit different. Here’s the instructions we were given. Thanks, Linda!

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is as follows: read closely. When you’re ready to sit down and write your post, look to the publication (book, newspaper, permission slip from your kid’s teacher, whatever you find) closest to you, and base your post on the sixth, seventh, and eighth word from the beginning of the page. Enjoy!

So, we’re supposed to take the nearest item, find the 6th, 7th, and 8th word that is written or printed on there, and write something about that.

I don’t have a book near by, but I have stacks of post-it notes right here on the desk. I make tons of notes about all kinds of stuff. The above photo is the note on top of the stack today.

It is a note to look for some books I’ve heard people say were good. They are, “The Map of Time”, “The Map of Sky”, and “The Map of Chaos”, by Felix J. Palma.

The 6, 7, and 8th words were, ‘map of sky’.

I like that, as I’m fascinated by the sky and of course the clouds, sun, stars, moon, and planets. I always have been, ever since my dad made his own telescope. He worked a long time on it, grinding the lenses, and putting it all together. He did it right there in the kitchen. When it was all done, we really enjoyed taking it outside on a dark, starry night, to see the sky. We had star charts and maps of where to find constellations, and well, the moon was just incredible seeing it up close through the telescope lens. We even got to see the rings of Saturn, and lots more interesting things.

I have my own telescope now, and get it out sometimes to be stargazing. Of course I try to spot a UFO, too.

Anyway, these words I used for the prompt were good ones for me today! 🙂
