FOLLOW THE LIGHT

They say to follow the light when you die…so he did.

Now his soul’s skeleton is trapped.

This wasn’t what he expected.

SOUL

You stand naked in front of me.

Your disembodied soul, your

Shimmering ghostlight,

An aura of beautiful colors. surrounds you.

I reach out my hand to touch you once more.

Your energy feels tingly, electrifying…

My tears of joy and sadness, you brush away.

FORESHADOW

Scuffing the sand,

Walking hand in hand,

See twilight’s brand

Of secrets in the sky.

Ocean’s waves brush

Slick rocks with a shush,

Moonlight shimmering lush,

So perfect we both do cry.

Then, you spoke those words,

As soft as a bird’s

Wings flutter, and I heard…

“Tonight my soul wants to die.”

YOU CAN’T HAVE HIM

“Sometimes I feel like I don’t belong here anymore,” he said, gazing into the night sky.

“The stars are calling me home, and my soul wants to go.”

Steve wrapped his arms around his lover, and silently begged, “Don’t take him…you can’t have him, yet…he’s mine…I love him.”

WRITING 101 – INTERVIEW – AN ARTIST WITH SOUL

Standard

WRITING 101 – INTERVIEW – AN ARTIST WITH SOULcropped-seal_v2-03

Today we were asked to conduct an interview.

Insight…the power or act of seeing into a situation, the act or result of apprehending the inner nature of things, or of seeing intuitively, exhibiting or characterized by insight…

It is my pleasure to introduce Noelle R. She is a wonderful, insightful artist.

~ Never give up on or abandon your dreams, goals, and passions… ~ Noelle

I first met Noelle, and her family, on Twitter. In the past few years, while we were getting to know each other, they’ve become like extended family. Noelle works from her studio in the Chicago area, and has been gracious in letting me ask her a few questions about her art…her passion.

Please welcome, Noelle.

AN ARTIST WITH SOUL (in her own words)

Q1 – Have you always known you wanted to be an artist?

It’s funny…I never really thought about it when I was little. I never said “I want to be an artist when I grow up!” But, in a way, I guess I did. I always loved spending endless hours drawing or coloring, trying to make the pictures as vibrant and detailed as I could, and trying to copy pictures I saw in books or magazines.

I remember one of the very first things I taught myself how to draw freehand, was the character of Sonic. It was my favorite video game, and favorite character growing up, so naturally I was always trying to draw him. From there, I practiced drawing a lot of flowers, and they’re still one of my favorite things to draw and paint, to this day.

But, I would say it wasn’t until I was about 12-13 that I really knew that’s what I wanted to do, and what I had a love and passion for. I remember my family had been doing a lot of improvement work around the house, including a lot of painting projects. As a result, we had a lot of leftover paint in many colors. So, I had gotten a really cheap set of artist’s brushes, at the Home Depot, and decided to play around. I had sat down with a drawing I had done a couple years prior, of a purple rose, and wanted to try and recreate it in a painting. I spent countless hours on it, for about a week straight, losing track of time. I was hooked. I felt like I finally found my place, what I knew I was meant to do. I was proud of my work (even though I had done it on construction paper, and the quality was lacking) but I fell in love, and was determined to move on to bigger and better, and perfect my technique.

Q2 – What medium do you use most?

Right now for my paintings I use mostly acrylics. I find them easy to work with. I like how fast they dry, and I love the vibrancy of the colors. I will also occasionally mix in various glitters, shimmers, or different glazes, depending on what effect I’m looking for. I will even often mix in regular latex wall paint (a trick I guess I held onto from my very first painting) to thin out the paint, without losing vibrancy, or to extend the drying time just slightly, to give me more time to work. I also do some shading and highlighting.

I’ve also been working on a lot of pencil and colored pencil drawings lately for a lot of my character pieces, and just to expand my skillset. Both mediums, whether it be drawing or painting, offer a lot of different possibilities, and I love pushing myself in both. I’m constantly trying to improve upon the last…a perfectionist, I guess you could say. But, then again, being an artist of any kind, and being a perfectionist kinda go hand in hand, right?

Q3 – Where do you get your ideas for a new piece?

My ideas and inspiration for new pieces come to me in different ways. Some may be from a very vivid dream I had, some come from me reflecting and reminiscing on a certain memory, and the emotions I felt, and I try to convey that story in the imagery and symbolism of that particular piece. Whereas other pieces, I may get the inspiration from something as simple as a beautiful poem I read, or a quote I may have seen that struck a chord with me, or even something as simple as something catching my eye while just going for a walk through my neighborhood. Seeing a pretty butterfly perched on a beautiful flower, the way the sun looks shining through the trees at a certain time of day, or feeling the breeze while watching the ducks and geese float over a pond.

Sometimes, it’s just that image that gets caught in my mind. Other times, it’s the feelings and emotions those images make me feel. I take those and try to express them on paper or canvas, so that anyone looking at my work can hopefully experience the same feelings.

Q4 – I’ve heard you’ve designed art for tattoos…is that something you’d like to continue?

I would definitely love to continue designing tattoos! At one point in time, I wanted to be a tattoo artist. However, after doing a lot of reading and researching on the subject, and continuing to work on my own drawings, I came to the conclusion that the idea of doing the actual tattooing didn’t appeal to me nearly as much as the process of drawing and designing them. I love tattoo art, and love the idea of working with a client to design a piece that will have special meaning to them, and that they will want permanently displayed on their body. As an artist, that is both an honor, as well as very humbling.

Q5 – In your own words, what would you like people to know about your artwork?

Hmm, that’s a good one, and one I’ve had to put a lot of thought into. As I’m sure is the case for every artist, whether painter, writer, sculptor, or musician, our art is an expression of ourselves, in some way, but also a lot more. I try to put a lot of myself and who I am onto each piece. To me, it’s what helps give art life, and what I hope helps people to connect with my pieces better. Some pieces are an expression and sharing of myself, and my experiences and memories. Some convey a message, if studied close enough. For me, all my artwork has a story behind it. All of them are very personal to me, but I translate that into something that everyone can get something out of.

I want my work to be able to inspire people. Even though each piece has a personal meaning behind it for me, I want anybody to be able to look at them without knowing that meaning, and find something in it that they can relate to, or that inspires them in some way, whether it be simply finding peace, relaxation, and Serenity in the images, or to explore their talents, and what they love doing. But overall, what I hope to inspire in people looking at my work, is to never give up on what they have a passion for. No matter what the odds, no matter how many people say you’ll never make it, or you’re not good enough, no matter the obstacles you have to overcome. Never give up on or abandon your dreams, goals and passions, and what you feel you are meant to do in life. If my work can inspire people in those ways, then that’s what makes me feel accomplished as an artist.

Q6 – Is your artwork for sale?

Yes, I have many pieces available for purchase, both paintings and sketches. Anyone interested in inquiring on any given piece, can feel free to contact me for more information, or ask any questions they may have. I am also accepting commissions, at this time, if anyone has anything particular in mind, or ideas they’d like to have worked on.

Q7 – Please list your contact information

INTO THE NIGHT

Standard

INTO THE NIGHT

A gleam in my eye

I gaze at the sky,

A yearning I can’t explain…

My souls cries out,

A silent shout,

Bereft, I wait in pain.

So far away,

The Milky Way,

This place in the vast unknown,

Someday they’ll call,

And I will fall,

Into darkness that is my home.

Into the night

I will take flight

To stars I did behold…

I dreamed to dare,

And sailed through the air…

My soul will forever unfold.

Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
