The Silent Wings Museum here in town has all kinds of vintage airplanes like this one. This place, here at our airport, was a training airfield for the WWII glider pilots, and the museum has an actual glider, plus other artifacts, and information about the time. It has been here since 2001, Some are displayed outside, and inside, like this one, in a huge room with windows letting in the light. The light is also reflected on the shiny floor.

Veteran’s Day – In Remembrance

***

Being a military family, (U. S. Army – retired), we know how important it is to honor all veterans.

My father-in-law was also a serviceman in the U. S Navy. He was a submariner on the USS Skate, at Pearl Harbor.

The way these poppies were done was very pretty and interesting. It was at the National World War One Museum and Memorial, in Kansas City, Missouri.

There was a large field of these poppies, growing indoors. The way you viewed them was from above, as you walked across a see through floor, and looking down at them.

We’ve also visited the Silent Wings Museum here in town. It honors all pilots who flew glider planes in World War II.

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: People at Work

Back on September 1st, we went a few places here in town, with the family. It was Labor Day weekend. The restaurant where we chose to eat lunch was in the down town area. When we got there, to our surprise, we could barely find a parking spot. It seems several streets were blocked off, and workers were getting things set up for a festival that evening.

The first 3 photos show some of them at work. One is driving a forklift, one is putting entertainment choices on the marquee. That is the Cactus Theater, which is a very old, and historic movie theater, and now holds music concerts there. The third photo is of workers setting up the outdoor stage, where musicians would be playing later on.

Earlier that morning, we visited the Silent Wings Museum, out by the airport. The next 2 photos aren’t real people, but statues, or sculptures? They show men in uniform who worked and piloted the glider planes many years ago. They sure looked real to me.

Makin’ the rounds…that’s what we’ve been doing.

My daughter, son-in-law, and grandson are in town (from Missouri) visiting a few days, and we’ve been going around to different places, just for something to do. They used to live here, but still, there are favorite restaurants they want to go back to, and other fun things to do.

Yesterday, we went out to eat at a Vietnamese restaurant, and also a Mexican restaurant. Today will be another one we haven’t been to in a long time.

We’re also going out to the airport, to see the Silent Wings Museum. This place was a training airfield for the WWII glider pilots, and the museum has an actual glider, plus other artifacts, and information about the time. It has been here since 2001, but will be the first time we’ve gone out there. Should be interesting. I’ll take some photos, I’m sure.

Don’t know what else we’ll be doing in the next few days, but I’m sure we’ll be going around here and there, and keeping busy.

Y’all have a super Saturday, and I’ll see you around soon. 🙂
