This is a pretty good song, and I like it in either version. It doesn’t mention any of the prompt words, but I think it is implied that the guy in the song’s story is new in town. He doesn’t really know many people, so feels lonely, depressed, isolated, and restless. He isn’t really confined, as he could go out if he wanted to. 🙂

The song was written by Cooke while touring in England when staying in a hotel room where no female guests were allowed.[1] It reached No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was No. 1 on the R&B chart for a single week.[2] In the UK, the song peaked at No. 23 on the UK Singles Chart.[3][4]

In 1974, Cat Stevens recorded a version of the song that peaked at No. 6 on the U.S. Hot 100, No. 13 Easy Listening,[6] No. 1 in Canada twice,[7][8] on September 28 and October 19, separated by two other No. 1s, and No. 19 in Stevens’ UK homeland.[4]

“Another Saturday Night”, by Sam Cooke, was released in 1963, and is on his album, “Ain’t That Good News”. It was written by Sam Cooke, and is on the RCA Victor label.

Another Saturday night and I ain’t got nobody
I’ve got some money cause I just got paid
Now how I wish I had someone to talk to
I’m in an awful way

I got in town a month ago
I’ve seen a lotta girls since then
If I could meet em I can get em, but as yet I haven’t met em
Thats how I’m in the state I’m in

Oh, another Saturday night and I ain’t got nobody
I’ve got some money cause I just got paid
Now how I wish I had someone to talk to
I’m in an awful way

Another fella told me
He had a sister who looked just fine
Instead of being my deliverance, she had a strange resemblance
To a cat named Frankenstein

Another Saturday night and I ain’t got nobody
I’ve got some money cause I just got paid
Now how I wish I had someone to talk to
I’m in an awful way

It’s hard on a fella
When he don’t know his way around
If I don’t find me a honey to help me spend my money
I’m gonna have to blow this town

I’ve got some money cause I just got paid
Now how I wish I had someone to talk to
I’m in an awful way

Another Saturday night and I ain’t got nobody
I’ve got some money cause I just got paid
Now how I wish I had someone to talk to
I’m in an awful way

I’m in an awful way (He’s in an awful way)
I’m in an awful way, oooh, I’m in an awful way
(He’s in an awful way)

I remember this song, and it was the first I thought of, even before looking around at lists. I could still remember most of the words. 🙂

Since its release, the song has become a landmark record of the soul genre, which Cooke helped create. It was named as one of the 500 most important rock and roll recordings by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. In 2005, the song was voted No. 115 by representatives of the music industry and press in Rolling Stone magazine’s The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

“You Send Me”, by Sam Cooke, was released as a single in 1957, from his album, “Songs by Sam Cooke”. It was written by Sam Cooke and mistakenly credited to his younger brother, L. C. Cook. (it was that Sam had wanted his brother to do the recording). It is on the Keen Label.

Darling, you send me
I know you send me
Darling, you send me
Honest you do, honest you do
Honest you do, whoa

You thrill me
I know you, you, you thrill me
Darling you, you, you, you thrill me
Honest you do

At first I thought it was infatuation
But wooh, it’s lasted so long
Now I find myself wanting
To marry you and take you home, woah

You, you, you, you send me
I know you send me
I know you send me
Honest you do

Whoa, whenever I’m with you
I know, I know, I know when I’m near you
Mmm hmm, mmm hmm, honest you do, honest you do
Whoa, I know

Whoa, whenever you kiss me
Mmm hmm, mmm hmm, honest you do

At first I thought it was infatuation
But wooh, it’s lasted so long
Now I find myself wanting
To marry you and take you home

I know, I know, I know, you send me
I know you send me
Whoa, you you you you send me
Honest you do
