Chug-a-Lug – Song Lyric Sunday – Drink

Chug-a-Lug – Song Lyric Sunday – Drink IMG_1345

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 8/5/18

For today’s SLS, we have the prompt word, ‘drink’. Thanks, Helen!

There are a lot of songs about drinking, and types of drinks. This is one I’ve always liked, because it’s funny. Roger Miller had some really great songs over the years, which were humorous, yet had a between the lines kind of message. He also had some more serious ones, too.

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
Make you want to holler hi-de-ho
Burns your tummy, don’tcha know?
Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug

Grape wine in a Mason jar
Homemade and brought to school
By a friend of mine ‘n’ after class
Me and him and this other fool decide

That we’ll drink up what’s left
Chug-a-lug, so we helped ourself
First time for everything
Mm, my ears still ring

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
Make you want to holler hi-de-ho
Burns your tummy, don’tcha know?
Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug

4-H and FFA
On a field trip to the farm
Me ‘n’ a friend sneak off behind
This big old barn where we uncovered

A covered-up moonshine still
And we thought we’d drink our fill
And I swallered it with a smile
Blll-bbb, I run ten mile

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
Make you want to holler hi-de-ho
Burns your tummy, don’tcha know?
Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug

Jukebox ‘n’ sawdust floor
Sumpin’ like I ain’t never seen
And I’m just goin’ on fifteen
But with the help of my finaglin’ uncle

I get snuck in
For my first taste of sin
I said, “Lemme have a big old sip”
Blll-bbb, I done a double back flip

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
Make you want to holler hi-de-ho
Burns your tummy, don’tcha know?
Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug

Here we are again, with Manic Monday! This is where we get a song title/video prompt, and we use it somehow in our post. It’s fun trying to come up with something each week. To join in, and see other entries, just click the above link for details.

The prompt this time was, “Summertime Blues”.

I’m a day late, so posting Manic Monday on Tuesday. It took me forever to figure out the music video thing, and how to put it in a post. Something has changed, and I don’t know if it was me, or the youtube videos or what, but I spent way too long on trying to get it to work. Then, I couldn’t find much information on this song, so spent another long time researching, until I came up with a little bit about it. So, it was so late, and Monday was almost over. I said to heck with it, I’ll do it tomorrow, and now tomorrow is today. 🙂

I’m not sure about the summertime blues part of the thing we are to write about. Does it mean you’re sad and blue in the summer? Does it mean you have blue skies? We don’t live by the sea, so I can’t write about blue ocean waves. That would be nice, though. We have lots of blue skies here. We also have very colorful sunrises and sunsets. Except yesterday, it rained all day, and will rain some more today. So the skies are gray, not blue.

Well, enough about all that. It seems in this song I chose, he is singing about love, and lost love, in the summer time. It’s sort of a sad song, but funny the way he sings it. Do you remember it?

This song is the first one I thought of, as it has those words in the lyrics.
