Flower of the Day – Ocotillo

***

Red flowers on long spikey stems.

These are called Ocotillo, and are interesting looking.

They look like just some spiny, dead branches, until it gets rain. Then the branches turn green, and bright crimson flowers appear. The flowers are sometimes used in salads. The branches are sometimes used for fencing material, and also for walking canes. This is what I read about them on Wikipedia. We have them all over the place, here in town. I suppose they grow so well here because we are considered semi-desert in this area.

Flower of the Day – Poinsettia

This large red Poinsettia plant is a late birthday gift from my Mr. He’d told me he ordered me one, and it would take awhile to get here. And it did get here yesterday! yay!
