Here are the latest questions from Melanie for SYW. Thanks!

***

What’s the biggest screw up in the kitchen that you were responsible for?

Setting the oven/kitchen on fire while cooking cinnamon toast in the broiler, having to call the fire department,  having to get the stove replaced because it was totally toasted, and getting a write up in the Stars & Stripes newspaper about it.

What, in your opinion, makes people believe absurd conspiracy theories?

I don’t know why other people believe these crazy stories/rumors, but I just like hearing about them, and speculating about how much (if any) truth there is in them.

In 40 years what will people be nostalgic for?

The age they were 40 years ago.

Is a hot dog a sandwich?

Yes and no. A hot dog is a hot dog, and a sandwich is a sandwich, but they are pretty much the same thing. It’s just what you put in the middle of some bread, that you call it one thing or the other. A sandwich can have any kind of ingredients, but a hot dog…well, we know there will be a weenie involved, for sure.  🙂

And finally:

What wonderful thing happened to you this week that you’d like to share?  It can be a gratitude moment or something that just made you feel very happy at the time or made you laugh.

Anything my grand kids say makes me happy and it’s usually something funny that I can laugh about and be amazed at their way of thinking.

The Questions This Week:

Do you prefer Apple (‘I’ products) or Android for your technology ‘fix’?

I suppose Apple, as I’ve never used an Android anything, although I wouldn’t mind having Data, from Star Trek, around.

What’s something on your personal bucket list?

I don’t have a bucket list. Oh, well…maybe winning the lottery!

What would you name your boat if you had one?   The Unsinkable 3? The Please Don’t Sink? Your choice! Also, what would it look like? Do you want a motor yacht, a sailboat, or perhaps a dinghy?

I wouldn’t want a boat of any kind. That would mean I’d have to be on some kind of water, …with fish in the water…absolutely not! But, if I had a cool, old pirate ship, I could park it in the back yard, and have it for an extra house. I could call it ‘Dry Dock Inn’, or ‘Patio Pirate’.

Or maybe a space ship ufo house! I could call this one ‘Out of this World’.

(these two photos found on Pixabay)

Ship Boat Pirate Buccaneer Corsair Transpo Ufo House Kunststoffhaus Live Ufo Ufo Ufo

Which fictional character would be the most boring to meet in real life?

Debbie Downer of Saturday Night Live.

And finally:

What brought gratitude, a smile or laughter to your life this week?

Lots of rain, some thunder & lightning! I love rainy, stormy days & nights!

Blue Sky Tag – Questions & Answers

***

I saw this Blue Sky tag over at Diana’s blog – “Myths of the Mirror” https://mythsofthemirror.com/2018/10/07/blue-sky-tag-time-for-a-little-fun-and-distraction-tgif/  and wanted to participate. I’ve done one before, but these are different questions! Thanks, Diana!

***

Use the Blue Sky banner  (that Rachael Ritchey designed).

It is sort of polite to mention the person who tagged you.

You need to answer the 11 questions set by your tagger.

You will need to make up 11 original and interesting or funny questions for those you tag.

You need to tag 11 people.

***

***

Diana’s Questions & my answers:

  1. What country have you never visited but would love to, and why? I’ve been lucky enough to have been to several countries in the world, but have never been to Sweden. For some reason I feel drawn to that country. It seems to be a beautiful place with friendly people, and wonderful sights to see. Maybe I lived there in a past life, or something?
  2. What person in your life (not including family members) has most shaped who you are today? I’ve never been around anyone long enough, other than family, so nobody else has had much of an influence on me.
  3. List three things that make you happy? Family, pets, writing.
  4. What’s your favorite genre to read? Memoir, Survivor/Travel, Conspiracy, Horror.
  5. What time period in history most intrigues you, and why? The 1960s, because I was in my element, back then. I still live about the same as I did back then. Sure, it was all hippie, peace & love, but also a time of great turbulence on the world’s stage. The contrast is historic and intriguing to me.
  6. If you could add a new talent to your repertoire, what would it be, and why? If I could whip up a talent I’d be good at, it would be actually being able to sing in tune. I’ve always envied those who can, but for me it’s a lost cause.
  7. Where is your favorite place in the world, and why? Home, my home, my house. This is where I can be myself the most.
  8. What animal best describes your personality, and why? That would be the Basset Hound dog. They are clumsy, funny, and lovable, and like to lounge around. That’s me! haha
  9. What’s your favorite recipe (and please share it)? Recipe? I don’t like reading recipes at all, but an easy one our family made up and we all enjoy, even today is this. We call them ‘Flop-os’ which is our own version of tacos. Here’s what you do. Chop up lettuce, tomato, onion, and grate some cheese. Get corn tortillas. Fry hamburger meat, and add picante sauce and a bunch of ketchup. Fry tortillas in a little grease, blot, then fill with the meat & vegetables. Yum!
  10. Hiking boots, sneakers, heels, or flip-flops? I wear flip-flops year round here in TX, except on a few days, I wear Crocs.
  11. Would you rather have tons of love and little wealth, or tons of wealth and little love? Tons of love, first, then enough wealth to get by on with a little extra for fun.

***

My questions:

  1. What’s your favorite flower? Any special reason?

2. What word do you find annoying, and you hear it all the time?

3. Have you ever gotten a traffic ticket? What was it for?

4. What bends your mind every time you think about it?

5. What is in your fridge right now?

6. Where’s your favorite place to do your writing?

7. If you could close one fast food chain, due to disgusting food, what would you pick?

8. Rainy days, or sunny days?

9. If you could only speak one word today, what would you say?

10. Would you rather live (permanently) in a roller coaster park or in a zoo?

11. What question would you like to ask me?

***

I’ll leave this tag open for whoever wants to play along! I’d love to hear your answers! 🙂

Questions:

What’s your go-to for unwinding after a stressful event or day?   Can be someone or something – music, pets, family or whatever you choose.

I’d say I don’t have many stressful days, as I do whatever I want every day, but if I’ve been out and about doing things, seeing people, and all that, then I can’t wait to get back home to my computer. I do my blogs, read other blogs, play games, and that is relaxing. Also, I like to do coloring, and reading a lot of books.

The plane you’re flying in is going to crash, no survivors.  If you had one song you could listen to before it happens, what would it be?  (credit to NewEpicAuthor for this one).  Please share the link to the song if you can.

***

What a disturbing question! Let’s hope it never happens! In the SYW world anything can happen, so let’s say at the last minute, a lucky turn of events comes about, and the plane does not crash, and everyone survives!

Anyway, there are so many good songs, and different directions to go on this question, and I could keep finding songs all day. This song, though, is one I really like, and I actually went to see the movie more than once, and even bought the DVD and watched it a bunch more times. I never get tired of listening to this song, and have put it on repeat many times.

So, if we’re going down…I’ll be rocking out to this one! Just go ahead and ‘Bring It’! \m/

“Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)” by Cobra Starship, was released in 2006. It was written by Gabe Saporta, Travie McCoy, Sam Hollander, & Dave Katz, and is on the New Line, Decaydance, & Fueled by Ramen labels. It was used in the movie, “Snakes on a Plane”.

***

What is one thing you’re really, really good at and not ashamed to admit it?  I worded that deliberately because aren’t we taught to be humble and not pushy about our achievements?  Celebrate your ability!

Untying knots. I’ve told this before, and yes, I’m very good at untangling chains, knots, strings, and anything like that. People even in school would bring me their tangled up stuff, and want me to straighten it out for them. Somehow it just happens…I can see how it’s tangled, and unravel it in no time at all.

Would you rather lose all of your money and valuables or all of the pictures you have ever taken?

Well, I don’t have much money or even any valuables to lose, so whatever…but photos, the ones saved on the computer or phone, and the actual old photographs…it would be horrible if those were lost.

And lastly

What were you grateful for or something that made you smile during the past month?

The whole month I have to remember? I can barely remember what I did yesterday! I’d go with the usual, family, pets, rain, sunshine, food to eat (even if we can’t make up our minds what we want to eat), and a place to live.

Okay, something that made me laugh yesterday was this…we went out for lunch, and I was ordering iced tea with no sugar (unsweetened). As usual I get my words all mixed up when I talk (this is normal for me) and I told the lady I wanted tea with no sweetening. Well, that got me laughing, and also the lady. The mister just shook his head. haha 🙂

***

The Questions:

What Is Your Favorite Beverage?  (for those who really dislike “favorite” questions, hey, time to time, one just pops in and will not be denied).

What Is Your Interpretation of ‘The Golden Rule”?  Are there ramifications to breaking it?

Sunrise person or sunset person?

Do people in modern society anthropomorphize animals too much?

and finally

What Were You Grateful For During the Past Week?

***

My answers:

My favorite beverage would be milk, iced tea, and coffee with cream.

The Golden Rule, as I understand it, is to treat other people with kindness, and respect, just as you’d want to be treated. If you are mean, rude, and treat others badly, you only hurt yourself by losing the kindness and respect and friendship from those you dismissed as not worthy of your care. It’s a double edged sword…karma…what you’ve done to others will come back to you ten fold.

I’m up very early in the mornings, so I get to enjoy all the sunrises. Then, in the evenings, I get to enjoy the sunsets, which are awesome here. So, I’d say I’m both… a sunrise & sunset fan.

There can never be too much anthropomorphizing (is that a word?) of animals. People have been doing this for ages, and even more so now, with all the cute animal memes. I love it!

Grateful and happy with my family, my cat, the other kitties, birds at the feeder, sunshine, any rain we had, geese flying over, books to read, food to eat, computer fixed, and interactions/comments from all of you!

Questions:

Are You A Better Listener or Speaker?

If You Were Asked To Design A Warning Label That Would Be Tattooed On Your Skin, What Would It Say?

(Credit for this question goes to a blogger I’ve just started following.  You can read more about her by clicking here. )

What Are You Passionate About?

If You Could Change One Thing About Your World, What Would It Be?

And Finally:

What Gave You A Reason To Smile This Past Week?

***

My answers:

I’m a much better listener than a speaker. I’m always interested in what someone has to say. But, when I talk, I get all flustered, and mess up what I’m saying, and getting to the point takes awhile.

Warning label? Watch out here she comes. That’s because I’m always bumping into people and things, making things fall down, even myself, and dropping things.

Passionate about? I don’t know about that, but things I really like are writing, reading, art, music, animals of all kinds, and taking pictures of all kinds of stuff.

What I would change would be no more wars, ever…and that people would respect each other and get along peacefully in the world, and in our own cities and neighborhoods… quit all the hating and killing!

A reason to smile…My grand-daughter’s 5th birthday party was lots of fun. We also had some rain, and I saw a few geese arriving for the winter, as they come back to our little lake by the house every year.

The questions:

  1. September is the perfect month for ________________.
  2. This month, I am looking forward to _______________.
  3. My morning routine always includes _________.
  4. I have a love-hate relationship with _________.

***

My answers:

September is a good month for a change of seasons. It comes that ‘fall’ feeling to the air. We still have mostly warm days, but there is a slight tinge of coolness to the breeze. It’s also a good time for birthdays, as there are two family members who have their day this month.

I’m looking forward to my grand-daughter’s 5th birthday party on Saturday. It’s a few days early, but since it will be the weekend, that’s fine.

My morning routine…make coffee and feed Cricket, then turn on computer to play a few games as I’m getting more awake.

I have a love/hate relationship with this computer. I love it when it’s working good, and no problems, but hate it when it’s acting up, or quits working like it’s supposed to. I have a feeling it may need to go in for repairs pretty soon (knock wood it won’t have to) as it keeps making all these weird noises when I turn it on.

Our usual host, Cee, has given the reins of SYW over to Melanie, at sparksfromacombustiblemind. You can find the weekly questions at the above link. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Just click the link to find out how. 🙂

Thanks so much, Melanie, for volunteering to keep SYW going! 🙂

Our Questions Today:

When you are old, what do you think children will ask you to tell stories about?   If you are ‘old’ (a term with different meanings for everyone); what stories do you tell your grandchildren?

When did something start out badly for you but in the end, it was great?

What do you think you are much better at than you actually are?   Maybe this one’s kinda mean…thoughts?

What would be the worst thing to hear as you are going under anesthesia before surgery?

and we’ll keep the affirmations and upbeat question just as Cee had it:

What did you appreciate or what made you smile this past week?  Feel free to use a quote, a photo, a story, or even a combination.

***

My answers:

What stories do I tell my girls and my grandchildren? All kinds! Everything reminds me of a story to tell, so I do. We like to remember things from when they were little, which reminds me of some things I did when I was a kid. Then, I tell my grand-kids stories about their moms, when they were little. They love to hear them. Other than that, the grand-kids like for me to tell made up stories to them, and sometimes we take turns telling part of a made up story to each other.

~

Something that started out badly, but got better…well, probably I had a cold or flu at some point, and it went a few days, then I got better. Or, the times I had to have surgery, and I woke up after, that was great.

~

I know the things I’m not very good at, and will admit it…like singing, and math. I like to think I’m a fairly good artist with drawing & painting, but to me, when compared to another persons work, mine is just not on the same level at all. Maybe it’s that thing where it’s all in the eyes of the beholder?

~

?? Oh, this is kind of a creepy question! But…here’s one I’ve actually heard a couple of different times… I just thought it was funny. The anesthesiologist said to me, “I’m giving you the Michael Jackson drug now, but don’t worry.”

~

I smiled because my daughter, son-in-law, and grandson came to visit from Missouri for a few days this weekend. We all had a great time, and the cousins, my grandkids, were always keeping us laughing.

The dogs didn’t eat the cats, so that was good.

Do you prefer eating foods with nuts or no nuts?

I would dearly love to eat food with nuts, or just plain nuts of any kind. I miss them, but on Dr.’s advice, I cannot any more.

Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed?

Closed, but not usually all the way shut.

Are you usually late, early, or right on time?

I’d normally be late, or barely showing up at the right time, but the Mr. tries to get us where we’re going early…sometimes way too early.

Hello, Monday! Time for a new set of questions from Cee, and answers from me! Join in…click the link! 🙂

***

Which tastes better: black or green olives?

What’s your favorite room in your home?

What fictional family would you be a member of?

***

To me, green olives taste the best. I can sometimes eat a black olive, if they are included in something, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get one.

My favorite room in this house would probably be the living room. It’s where this computer & desk is, and also most of my scrapbooking and coloring supplies are (in 3 drawer bins). Also it’s right by the TV, so I can listen and sort of watch while I’m typing. I spend most of the time in here.

A fictional family …hmm… Cee chose the Waltons, and that’s a really good one. Should I go back to the days of Andy Griffith, and live with Aunt Bea and Opie, in the very small town of Mayberry? Or, maybe the future, with the family from Lost in Space, or Star Trek, which would be interesting, too. No…I’ll go live with either the Munsters, or the Addams Family, because I mostly identify with Lily and Morticia the most. They were all funny and creepy and lived in cool houses.
