Time for another SYW, with questions from Melanie, and answers from me!

Join in and see other entries by clicking the above link. It’s fun!

***

The Questions…

  1. You’re walking in a forest and you find a black suitcase.  Inside it is one millions dollars and a piece of paper, stained in blood and bearing the single word “Don’t!”  Would you take the suitcase home or leave it?
  2. Imagine you lapsed and cheated on your partner. You feel horrible and you know you’ll never do it again, because the feeling is so awful. Would you confess?
  3. Would you live your life differently if nobody ever judged you for anything you did?
  4. Would a fly without wings be called a walk? No? What would you call it?

What’s something that brought joy and lightness of being to you this past week?

***

My Answers…

  1. You’re walking in a forest and you find a black suitcase.  Inside it is one millions dollars and a piece of paper, stained in blood and bearing the single word “Don’t!”  Would you take the suitcase home or leave it?

First of all, we live nowhere near any forest, and the question is assuming I’d actually open the suitcase. But, if I did, I definitely wouldn’t touch the nasty blood covered money. I’d not want to catch any infectious diseases from it. I’d call law enforcement to handle it.

Funny you should ask this question, because for real there is a suitcase (it’s red, not black) that’s been just laying by a fence there across the street from our house for a few weeks. Nobody has moved it, and as far as I know, nobody has even bothered to look inside it.  I wonder who left it there, and what’s in it, if anything, but I’m not gonna go poking around to see. Might be something scary, or a poisonous snake, or something rotten & stinky, or a corpse… or maybe nothing at all. I took this photo on Jan. 6. It’s still there.

The mystery suitcase

***

UPDATE! Wouldn’t you know it…I looked out this morning and the mystery suitcase was gone! How odd that I wrote about it, and the very next day it disappeared. I guess someone finally decided to look inside, then either trash it or take it home. Wish I knew.

?#2 – N/A never happen

?#3 – No

?#4 – a bug, maybe it just can crawl around now. The fly was grounded. Call it a Grounder. Or better yet, get rid of it, because flies are nasty.

Here are the questions for this week from Melanie, and my answers. Click the above link to find out how to join in, and see other entries, too.

Did you have to help out with chores when you were growing up?  If so, what were you assigned to do?

My sister and I had to help with a few chores, and the main one I remember is waxing the kitchen floor. We hated doing that. The floor wax smelled really good, but we had to get on hands and knees to smear the wax on, and then later take rags and buff it all off. You know…wax on – wax off! Later on we got an electric buffer machine which was fun to use, except it would go all over the place, as we couldn’t control it. To this day I cannot stand to do any kind of floor chores.

Have you ever researched your family tree?   What do you know about your family’s roots?

No, but I’d like to know more about our ancestors. I do have some handwritten family history notes from one side of the family, and some photos, but that’s about all.

What’s your cure for hiccups?

Hold my breath for a few seconds.

What makes you roll your eyes every time you hear it?  Either figuratively or literally?

Old timey redneck sayings…my mister says them all the time. I told him to get some new ones, because I’ve heard the same old ones over & over too many times.

Finally:

Share a gratitude or positive moment or experience from 2019 so far.

Very nice weather…we had an unusual 11 inch snow before Christmas, but since then it’s been nice, and I hope it stays that way.

It’s time for SYW (holiday edition), with questions from Melanie, and answers from me. Thanks Melanie!

Now, these questions I really have no idea what the answers to most of them are without looking up the facts (and I don’t want to) So, I’ve just gone with my first thoughts, and they are probably wrong. 🙂

What Christmas beverage is also known as “milk punch?” This could be eggnog? …or maybe a White Russian drink because it’s milk with a punch?

Before becoming tied up with Christmas what was Yule? An evergreen tree log? …or maybe a shortened word for ukulele?

Stollen is the traditional fruit cake of which country? Germany? …or another country in Europe?

In what century was the first written use of Xmas? 20th? …or possibly way back in history, before there was controversy about x-ing out the word Christ?

The modern Santa Claus is mainly a mix of what two figures? Father Christmas & Kris Kringle? …or a very thin stick figure Santa & a very portly Santa, as you see both kinds. He morphs into whichever one you like seeing best.

Finally,  What do you have to be grateful for as 2018 ends?  That we made it through another year. …or we’re still here, so bring on 2019!

What traditional Christmas decoration is actually a parasitic plant? Mistletoe

Name something about this holiday season (whatever version you may celebrate) that most people like, but you dislike? The greed shown by shoppers who push and shove, act rude, and get into fights just to be first to get all the ‘stuff’. I don’t know why they like doing this, but it happens every year.

What’s your favorite – or least favorite –  song sung traditionally at this time of year? My favorite is “Feliz Navidad”, by Jose Feliciano. I have to hear it randomly somewhere or it doesn’t seem like Christmas. So far I have not heard it this year.

And the last one ———>  In the song “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer,” what “incriminating” evidence was found on Grandma’s back? I had to look it up…it was Claus marks? whatever that means…doesn’t sound very nice.

Finally:    What would you like to share with the world, if time or cost were no object? Peace

The questions:

1. Black Friday _________________________________.
2. A pet peeve of mine at this time of year is ___________________________.
3. ‘Tis the season for _________.
4. I never jumped on the _________ bandwagon.
***
***
My answers:
  1. Black Friday is a shopping day I don’t participate in. We don’t have the hysteria in our city like I’ve seen in some cities in the news, but I won’t be going shopping except to maybe the grocery store today.
  2. A pet peeve of mine at the time of years is that my favorite oldies music radio station has gone to all Christmas music all the time. A little bit is okay, but not a whole month’s worth, continually. I miss my oldies music.
  3. ‘Tis the season for hoping we don’t get snow. I don’t like cold weather at all, and snow is pretty, but I want none of it.
  4. I never jumped on the ‘must see’ or ‘must read’ movies and books idea. Just because someone says it’s the best, doesn’t mean Ihave to see or read them. I don’t make a decision based on someone else’s opinion of these. If I’m interested, I’ll watch a movie or TV show, or read a certain book, but not because someone recommended it as a ‘must’.

Are you an Early to bed, early to rise person, a night owl and day sleeper/dozer, or an ‘I’ll sleep when I’m dead’ person?

I go to sleep in the recliner about 10:30 p.m., while reading, then about 4 hours later I go to bed. Then I’m up between 5 and 6 in the morning. I don’t know what that would be as to the question. If being a morning person means you’re wide awake, chipper, and talkative, then I’m definitely not.

What are some misconceptions about your hobby, should you have a hobby?

Is taking pictures with my phone a hobby? I’ve been asked why I take so many, and why they are of just ordinary or odd things most times. Well, why not? It’s fun, and I use them for the photo challenges. There’s no rules about photos having to be only formal, posed, or picture book perfect.

A penguin walks through the door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?

I answered this already on my 20 Odd Questions post. I’ll think of some other reason a penguin is here, with a sombrero on…okay, here’s why…

The penguin is the local pest exterminator. He dances around stomping on bugs while singing this song over and over. If that’s not enough to make the bugs go away, then I don’t know what is. But, I really like this song, so I dance around with the penguin, and it’s a party!

Aliens have landed…do they come in peace?

Yes. They are already here living alongside us. Do you see any mass chaos, or anything? Do you even notice them? They notice you, and are taking notes.

What are you really, incredibly thankful for this week?

I’m glad we don’t have any snow. It’s been cold in the mornings, but nice seasonal temps in the afternoons, around the 50s to 60s. I’m glad the geese made it back here after their long journey. When thousands take to the air it is a sight to see. 🙂

QUESTIONS:

What’s the most ironic thing you’ve ever witnessed?

I don’t really understand irony, so can’t comment on this.

Or, is it like I told my daughter it wasn’t snowing here this morning, then I looked out the window, and there were snowflakes falling. Not many, but still. haha

Let’s talk turkey.  Pro or con?   If pro, which part do you enjoy most?  Is it for Thanksgiving (American Style any way) only?

I don’t much like turkey any time of year. I’ll eat a little of the white meat, but never the dark meat. Sometimes we have it for Thanksgiving, but hardly ever for Christmas. We like to do things different on these holidays, by having roast beef, or a chili cook-off contest, and even a bar-be-que. Sometimes we just have snack type foods.

If you’d like, share one thing you wish you’d said to someone else, but now you’ll never have the chance.

???

What odd smell do you really enjoy?

I don’t know if these are odd?

Gasoline, Diesel, Naptha, Oil Wells

Onions & Onions frying

Cilantro

Thankful November….share a story or time when someone did something really great for you.  Alternatively,  share your gratitude moments during this past week.

Sorry, I don’t like these kind of questions. I’m grateful every day for family, pets, home.

Here are the interesting questions for SYW this week, brought to us by Melanie. They are always fun, always interesting, and always gives something to think about. Thanks, for hosting, Melanie!

If you’d like to join in, just follow the link above to find out details.

QUESTIONS FOR THIS WEEK:

Is there one post on your site that is really special to you?  (credit for this one goes to CrushedCaramel )

I like all my posts, but there is a some that I’m especially happy with. This is my fan fiction story, “Two Souls: Into the Fire” series. The reason I like this is because it’s the longest story I’ve ever written, and I stuck with it until it was finished. Not to brag too much, but I think it’s a great story! Here’s the first one – https://wp.me/p3RE1e-5dN – The rest can be found by using the sidebar categories.

How Do You Deal With Negative People?  (Athling2001 gets credit for this one)

Everyone has negative thoughts sometimes, but those people who are always complaining, or trying to argue, or never seem to be happy with anything at all, soon become a big bore to me. I try to avoid them.

What Is The First Thing You Think Of When You Wake In The Morning?

First thing is to look at the clock to see what time it is. I don’t use an alarm, but after so many years with the same routine, I wake about the same time every day.

Would You Rather Be Able To Talk With The Animals Or Speak All Foreign Languages?

That would be definitely be able to talk to any animal, and to actually hear what they say. I do talk to animals all the time, and some answer me, but in their language. I pretty much can read their body language, movements, and sounds to know how they are feeling, or what they are wanting, but it would be neat to hear it in my own language.

November is a month in which many people give thanks.  America (and other countries) celebrate an actual Thanksgiving Day. For example, Canada celebrates this in October.

This month the gratitude question will address your life and what things you’ve received or done, that have brought you joy and sometimes relief perhaps.

What small thing happened today (or in the past few days) that you were grateful for?

Today I went to lunch with my daughter and grand-daughter, and then shopping. We always have a great time talking, being silly, and laughing a lot.

It’s Monday, and time again for some new SYW questions from Melanie, and answers from me! Click the above link to find out how to join in this fun, weekly challenge. 🙂

Halloween is this week – Wednesday – so it’s appropriate that today’s SYW Questions have a Halloween-y ‘flavor’.

There are more questions than usual…so please choose the ones you’d like to answer; answer ALL of them if you’d like, or leave a comment saying that you prefer ‘normal’ questions.   Thanks!   🙂

Name something you wouldn’t want to run into in a dark forest or in an abandoned building.

A fish. It’s highly unlikely I’d run into a fish in the forest or in an abandoned building, but I have a fish phobia, and probably any fish in the area would somehow know this, and come find me, and swim through the air to get me! Shudder…my worst nightmare!

Share the creepiest thing that’s ever happened while you were alone.

Too many to list, starting with my grandma’s haunted house. But when I was alone? Probably our mirror levitating all by itself, and crashing to the floor. Here’s the true story of what happened! https://wp.me/p3RE1e-3WE

What would you like your last words to be?

See ya later! That’s what I do say to all people and pets when they pass over. I’m sure we’ll see each other again someday in spirit form.

Do you believe in any ‘mythical’ monsters like chupacabras or shadow people?

Yes, most of them.

How long do you think you would last in a horror movie?

Maybe a long time, because I’ve seen so many of them, and can spot the pitfalls. Most horror film characters are less than smart, so they get done away with pretty quick.

Are you afraid of or find clowns creepy?

I don’t like them. I know they are just people in costume, but to me they are creepy. I had a trauma with one rodeo clown when I was little, and haven’t liked them ever since.

In the zombie apocalypse, what would be your weapon of choice?

My smart phone. There’s probably an app for getting rid of the Zombies, so I’d use it.

Have you ever had your tarot cards read?

No, but I do have a deck of tarot cards that a friend gave me.

Anyone know the reason behind putting candles in jack-o-lanterns?

To light the way, and to repel evil spirits.

Do you think putting special emphasis on certain holidays – like Halloween is ‘spooky’ for example — is a good idea or just more mindless entertainment for the masses?

Celebrating the holidays in whichever way you want, is just plain fun. Mindless or not, we all need to take a break from dreary ordinary days sometimes…just for fun.

Share a positive thought or message or something that’s inspired you this week.

Peace begins with a smile. - Mother Teresa
