Share Your World – August 13, 2018

***

Today, Cee is back with more fun questions for SYW. Thanks, Cee!

***

A class you wish you would have taken?

Are you scared of heights?

Are you a good cook? If so, do you consider yourself a chef?

***

A class I wish I would have taken…when? In high school? We were only allowed a couple of elective classes, and there weren’t many choices at that. I never took an art class, or choir. I took orchestra for awhile (from 6th through 10th grade).

I’m not sure, but I think kids today have a lot more choices, and that is good.

I don’t know of any extra classes I’d have taken. I was just glad to finally graduate, and be done with classes.

###

No, I’m not scared of heights. I like looking way down at something, either from an upper story, or even better is looking down at the ground from and airplane. Then again, I don’t like getting up a step or two on a ladder or step-stool. Mostly I’m afraid I’ll fall off.

###

I think I’m a good cook. Not chef good, but I can cook good things to eat. I don’t use many recipes except on a few things. I learned by watching my mom cook, and also my granny and grand-ma. I know all these meals by heart.

I’m sure by now you know I love answering questions, so when I saw that Willow had posed some about our pets, I was Yay!

Willow can be found blogging at, “Patience of Willow”, at the following link. Thanks for the fun questions!

Questions about the furbabies

***

I first saw these questions and answers from Melanie, at, “Sparksfromacombustiblemind”. She’d got them from Willow.

Melanie can be found blogging at the following link.

***

Do you have any pets? If so, what kind? Right now we have one cat, named Cricket. We also have a bunch of outdoor cats that come and go that we feed.

2. How long have you had your current pet(s)? We’ve had Cricket for 8 years (will be 9 years in October)

3. What’s the longest period of time you’ve lived with a pet? I’ve always had a pet of some kind or other. We recently lost one of our cats, Paolo, and he’d been with us for 21 years.

4. What type of animals do you generally gravitate towards when adopting pets? Cats and dogs.

5. What type of animal do you think is the easiest to care for as a pet? Cats

6. Do any of your pets have annoying habits that you can’t break them of? I don’t think Cricket has any annoying habit.

7. What, in your opinion, is the most difficult thing about being a pet owner? Saying see ya later (good-by) when they cross the Rainbow Bridge.

8. Do any of your animals have amusing traits that are particular to them? Cricket loves to be brushed every day. She’ll get in her favorite spot, and meow for me to hurry up, already.

9. Which type of pet do you think requires the most care? Dogs.

10. Was there a furbaby that you bonded with more closely than any other? I love them all equally. They all have their own personalities.

11. Do you spoil your pets? In what way? Just the usual, feeding, grooming, playing with, and talking to them.

12. How do your pets react to strangers in the yard? at the door? in the house? Cricket doesn’t care who’s in the yard, but if they come to the door or into the house, she will hiss at them, and then run and hide.

13. Do you tend to anthropomorphize your animals? If so, how far do you take it? For example: Do you dress them in clothing? Oh, I’m sure I do. And, a few years I made Halloween costumes for all our cats and dogs. They didn’t mind, at all, and I’d take their picture. That was it.

14. Have you ever had what are considered “unusual” or exotic pets? My daughter had a box turtle, named Herbie. He lived with us for many years, then when we moved, he either wandered out of the yard & got lost down by the lake, or he got stolen. I still think it was the latter.

15. How old were you when you (or your family) adopted your first pet? My family had a dog when I was a year old. Her name was Cindy, and I do remember her, and have pictures.

16. What’s the most trouble you can remember a pet getting into? Our basset hounds would find any food/or chocolate candy wrapped up under the Christmas tree, and tear the wrapping off and eat it. We finally put chicken wire (I decorated it with ribbon) around the tree, to keep the dogs out.

17. There is no question 17. (the cat ate it) Hee-Hee!

18. What does your relationship with your furbaby mean to you? I love all the animals we ever had. It would be weird not to have one to play with and talk to.

19. How do your pets react when you sing and/or dance? Cricket just looks at me and goes back to sleep. The dogs we used to have would jump around being happy.

20. Have you ever adopted a pet and found out you didn’t get along with them? What did you do? No.

21. Where do your pets sleep in relation to you? Do they have their own bed, or do you allow them to share yours? Our pets have always slept anywhere they wanted. They’ve had their own bedding, but usually slept with us in our bed, or on the couch.

22. How do you come up with names for your pets? I love naming pets, and come up with lots of them. There is their actual name, then a bunch of nicknames, funny names, and topic names such as ‘wild west names’, ‘wrestler names’, ‘royalty names’, etc. For our pedigreed Basset hound, we added a version of her mom & dad names to hers. She was registered as, ‘Maggie Odio Sissybeau Bonz’. (her mom’s name was Sissy, and her Dad’s was Beaureguard)

23. Putting aside money and sanitary issues — If you could fill your house and property with animals, what type would they be? Dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, some reptiles, and lots of farm animals. I wouldn’t want any wild or endangered ones at my house.

24. What was the most expensive pet you’ve ever adopted? We’ve had two Basset hounds, and they were both over $100. That is just the beginning of expenses of pet care, as there is food, shelter, vet visits, and whatever else comes up, for many years.

25. What, in your opinion, is the best thing about adopting animals into your home? Fun, laughter, companionship, and the best…love.

Blue Sky Tag – Q & A

Blue Sky Tag – Q & A

***

I saw all these fun questions over at Sarah’s blog, Lemon Shark. She can be found blogging at the following link. Go check out her answers, too! Thanks, Sarah!

https://sarahbrentyn.wordpress.com/2018/07/30/blue-sky-tag/

***

I didn’t really see any ‘rules’ as such. Something about the number 11 was mentioned. Eleven questions, eleven new questions, eleven tags? I don’t know … anyway, I like answering questions, so am using them all, plus asking 11 of my own to have answered. The thing is – just have fun with these!

Oh, I’m not tagging anyone specific, but if you enjoy these as much as I do, go ahead and be my guest! I’d love to read your answers, too. 🙂

***

1. If you lived in a house made of jello, what flavor would it be? Any particular reason?

Well, I like jello from time to time, but a wiggly, jiggly house would just be weird. It would probably melt into a sticky mess pretty quick too, because of the hot TX sun. But, if I had to, I’d want it to be either Lime or Orange flavor because those are my favorite flavors of jello. I’d want a scoop of whipped cream on top, too.

2. What is your first reaction when someone knocks on your door?

Say, “Oh, no!”, then go peek out the little window to see if I even want to see who it is and what they wanted, which is usually not, so I don’t open the door.

3. Does a blue sky or blue ocean make you happier? Why?

They are both beautiful. We see blue skies all the time, but I like seeing all the different clouds best.

4. If you were out enjoying a beautiful day and suddenly it started raining, what would you do?

I’d do a happy dance in the rain! My favorite days are rainy days, and we have so few of them here, that it is a wonder to see, and to smell, and to be refreshed from the hot, dry, dusty days we usually have.

5. Whose name makes you smile as soon as you hear it? Care to share why?

Both my grand-kids names, because they are both so sweet, and fun to be around.

6. Dog, cat, fish, or rabbit?

Dog, cat, fish, or rabbit…what? Cross off any kind of fish (phobia), and I like the rest. We’ve had dogs, cats, and a rabbit before, along with all kinds of other pets, and they are nice to have around.

7. What’s your favorite mode of travel?

Teleportation machine.

8. If you had to stay up all night by yourself in a deserted building, what would you spend the time doing?

I’d love it! I’d do my ghost hunting, try to take a picture of anything ghostly or odd, and use my tape recorder to catch any EVPs – ghost voices in the dark.

9. Running in the rain or running in the gym? (Even if you don’t run! ha!)

I don’t run. I probably never did. If I was pretending to run, it would be in the rain. Gyms are stinky and I don’t like them.

10. To stand alone on a mountain peak or dance in a crowded club?

Mountain peak. I love the mountains, and I don’t really do any dancing except in my living room – by myself & the cat. I don’t do crowds of any kind, any where.

11. Who do you write for?

I write because I have to. I write because I love it. I write for the fun of it, for myself. If anyone else reads what I write, that’s a bonus!

***

Now, here are the new questions from Sarah:

(yes, I messed up the numbers, as I always seem to do…sorry :/

  1. Do you judge a book by its cover?

Yes, sometimes I do. If the cover looks interesting, and the description of the contents sound like something I want to read, then I’ll most likely give it a chance.

  1. What’s your favorite color? (Specific shade would be awesome…just saying.)

My favorite color is black. Next favorite is sky blue.

  1. Which animal is smarter: chimpanzees or dolphins? (Except if Geoff Le Pard plays because he will say “mice”.)

I don’t like monkeys or apes, so I’d say dolphins.

  1. What’s your least favorite part about writing: editing, revising, or proofreading?

I do a little of all of these every time I read over a piece. Just that it takes a lot of time to do it, is the least favorite part.

  1. Are there any mythological creatures you believe are real? (Or wish they were?)

Faries!

  1. Which ridiculously popular book did you not enjoy?

Some say, “The Confederacy of Dunces”, by John Kennedy Toole, is such a great book (my daughter loved it). I’ve tried, but can’t get past the first few pages, without stopping. I just don’t get it at all.

Do You Prefer / Which Would You Rather questions:

  1. Pen or pencil

I like writing with pens or fine tip markers the best. Pencils need too much sharpening, and aren’t dark enough to see what you’ve written.

  1. Wine or beer

Neither. I don’t drink these. I drink iced tea and coffee.

  1. Bean bags or straight-back chairs

I would not be able to get up out of a bean bag chair, and straight-back chairs are so uncomfortable…so neither one. I’d rather have a plush recliner, or couch.

  1. A pile of proofreading or a stack of math worksheets

I’d never want anything to do with math or numbers, so proofreading would be easier for me.

  1. Monty Python or Three Stooges

I’ve never seen any Monty Python, so I’ll say the Three Stooges, even though I don’t like them much, and never found them to be funny.

***

New questions from me:

  1. If you were an animal, which one would you like to be?
  2. If you could keep only one home appliance, which one would you keep?
  3. If you were given a racehorse, what would you name it?
  4. As a child, what job did you want when you grew up? Did it happen?
  5. What’s your favorite holiday?
  6. What book are you reading?
  7. If you could ask your pet 3 questions, what would you ask them?
  8. What is a funny sounding word?
  9. If you could live in any TV house, which one would you choose?
  10. Do you have a favorite number? What does it mean to you?
  11. What is the last thing you Googled?

***

Your turn! 🙂

The questions:

Have you ever been in a food fight?

How do you deliver bad news?

What (if anything) do you think is beyond the stars?

What “redneck” (unsophisticated) activity do you like to do?

Is there a scary scene from a movie (or book) you viewed a child that still haunts you?

Last (rock trivia courtesy of Glyn), which true to form I won’t answer.  I wanna see if anyone (besides Glyn) knows the answer:

Seal’s ‘Kiss From A Rose’ was the theme from which film?

***

My answers:

Have I ever been in a food fight? Not that I remember…however…I probably look like I have been every time I get finished with a meal. That’s because I’m so messy. I don’t mean to be, but between drips, spills, and crumbs, and despite using bunches of napkins, you might think I’ve been in a food fight.

~

I don’t like giving bad news to anyone, but have a few times. It’s hard to know what or how to say things like that.

~

What’s beyond the stars? More stars and space, more planets yet discovered, aliens, other worlds, other living things…

~

“Redneck” activities? Our whole life is probably considered ‘redneck’. We’ve always lived in the south, are hardworking people who aren’t afraid of getting our hands dirty at our jobs, and that might even be working out in the hot Texas sun, where your neck gets red and sunburned. Honest people, who live simply, and loyally stick up for our own. Yes, we have a unique way of speaking, and quirky ways of doing things, which others may think are silly or strange, but that’s just the way we are.

~

A scary scene from a movie or a scary book? I love scary movies and books, so not much bothers me. The scenes that affected me the most, were from real life. Fish jumping out of their bowl haunts me to this day with nightmares and a fish phobia, and the F5 tornado I was in I still get nightmares about.

~

I love that song, “Kiss From a Rose”, by Seal, but I haven’t a clue it was in a movie. We don’t go to or watch many movies.

***

Cee’s Questions:

In regards to puzzle what’s your choice: jigsaw, crossword, word search, mazes, logic or numeric puzzles, something else, or nothing?

List at least five favorite treats and it doesn’t necessarily have to be food.

What is your favorite type of dog? (can be anything from a specific breed, a stuffed animal or character in a movie)

***

My answers:

Puzzles – I love doing puzzles! Mainly jigsaw puzzles, but also crossword puzzles. Then, I sometimes do a word search, or a jumble. Never got into doing the logic puzzles (funny – my daughter and I were just talking about these yesterday!) Math or number puzzles are not for me, though.

***

List 5 treats…

  1. Playing and talking with my grand kids
  2. Having my mister cook me breakfast every morning
  3. Having long, and fun chats with my daughters
  4. Finding good stuff (to me) at yard sales
  5. Any kind of sweets to eat (I like them all)

***

My favorite kind of dogs…

Basset hounds. We’ve had several over the years. They are just big old babies that are funny and loveable. We don’t have any dogs right now – just a cat. We’ve had dogs & cats at the same time, and they all got along great.

The questions:

. As a child, I feared ______________.
2. Friday the 13th _____________________.

3. I think _________ is my best quality.

4. You can’t go wrong with _________.
***
My answers:
~~~As a kid, I was fearful of nuclear war. It was the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis – October 16 – 28th, 1962.
I’m sure I didn’t know much about it, but felt the tension, somehow. I guess I heard grown-ups talking, or maybe heard some snippets of news on the TV or on the radio.
The silly thing is that I was afraid we’d all be dead before I could get my adult library card. Up until then, I could only check out books from the library in the children’s section. I don’t know how old we had to be before we could get our next card, but I had awhile to go before that happened. Glad to have finally passed that date, and finally got my card upgraded.
~~~Friday the 13th is a fun day. I like thinking of all the superstitions people have. I don’t have any, but it sounds spooky, and I love anything spooky.
~~~My best quality? No idea
~~~You can’t go wrong with sharing a smile with everyone, even animals.

1. I tried  __________________ and I liked it.
2. Am I the only one who ___________________?
3. _________ is my hero/heroine.
4. If I could eat only one food for the rest of my life, it would be _______
***
My answers:
~~~I’ve tried ?? sorry, can’t think of anything
~~~I’m sure I’m not the only one. If it can be thought of, it’s been done already.
~~~I don’t have heroes or heroines
Time for another set of cool questions from Cee, and answers from me!
Here’s what you’ll find at the above link…how to join in the fun, and other blogger’s answers to the questions!
It’s a great way to have some fun on a Monday! 🙂
***
Here’s the questions for this week:
Since we are approaching the hottest part of our summer in the northern hemisphere, what’s your favorite ice-cream, frozen yogurt or sorbet flavor?  (Those of you who live down under I’m sure you remember what it is like in the hot summer months).
How often do you people watch?
If you had a choice which would be your preference salt water beaches, fresh water lakes, ocean cruise, hot tub, ski resort or desert?
***
Here are my answers:
Ice cream is good, and I do like it, but hardly ever eat it. We’ve had a small container up in the freezer for a long time and it hasn’t even been cracked open. There are also a couple of ice cream sandwiches in there that we got from the drive-by ice cream man awhile back, too.
My favorite kind, though, would be home-made vanilla. We used to have an old fashioned ice cream freezer, that you had to hand crank the handle to turn the inside container around and around. You’d add crushed ice and rock salt to the outside part. That’s the best kind, to me.
Otherwise, I mostly just like vanilla, or sweet cream flavor. That goes for frozen yogurt, too.
~
It took a second for me to figure out the people watching question. Watch what?… I thought it was asking how often do you people (meaning us or we) watch something…like television? haha! Then I figured it out.
I watch people all the time when we go places. People are fun to watch…what they are wearing, what they are talking about (if I can hear them), what they are buying at the grocery store, and on and on. Honestly, there are some strange people out there. I, too, like to make up stories about them.
I have this thing I can do most times…a psychic gift maybe? I can get certain vibes from just watching someone (a stranger). I’ll know if they are happy, sad, ill, sneaky, lying, or whatever…it’s just a feeling I get, and it doesn’t really matter what they are projecting on the surface. Fun, but weird to do this.
~
Okay, from the list of places I’d prefer in the last question, I’d choose desert. I don’t mean like the Sahara, or anything extreme like that, but just a hot, dry climate, with cactus and lizards, and desert type houses (adobe), and wide open spaces, where at night you can see a billion stars up in the cooling desert sky. Ahh, yep…that’s it! Come to think of it, that’s pretty close to how it is here where I live, except we’re in the city.
I liked when we lived fairly close to the Gulf of Mexico, and I enjoyed visiting the beaches, but I really don’t like being around water that much. Definitely not a big lake, but we live right by a playa lake (a small one) and that’s pretty cool, because of the ducks and geese.
~
Anyway, those are my answers for today! 🙂 Next week there will be more! Yay!
***
My answers:
  1. When it is hot, which it definitely is in the summer here, I mostly stay inside the house with the A/C going.
  2. What am I looking forward to this month? More of the same, doing whatever I want, and hoping for more rain showers to cool things off. Nothing spectacular coming up as far as I know.
  3. The theme song of my life? I have no idea. I like all music, so every day would be a different theme, but I’ve included a video below that really speaks to me in all kinds of ways.
  4. There’s no such thing as …? There probably are such things somewhere. If it can be thought of, there’s a strong possibility that someone has figured out a way to make it happen, whether writing about it, doing it, or building/cooking/exploring/inventing it.
