A BOOK LOVER’S TAG

******

Questions for Book Lovers

1.  Do you have a specific place for reading?
2.  Bookmark or random piece of paper.
3.  Do you eat or drink whilst reading?
4.  Music or TV while reading?
5.  One book at a time or several?
6.  Do you prefer to read at home or elsewhere?
7.  Read out loud or silently?
8.  Do you read ahead or skip pages?
9.  Break the spine or keep it new?
10.  Do you write in books?
11.  What books are you reading now?
12.  What is your childhoods favourite book?
13.  What is your all-time favourite book and why do you love it?

***

My answers:

  1. I don’t have a specific place, as I can read anywhere. Mostly though, it would be in the living room or bedroom.
  2. Bookmarks. I have a lot of them, but can’t find them all the time, because I leave them in books, and I find them later. I usually just leave the book turned face down at whatever place I stopped at.
  3. Yes, I eat and drink while reading.
  4. If it’s daytime when I’m reading at home, the TV is usually on. If at night, it’s all quiet.
  5. At the moment it is one at a time, but usually I have several I’ve started. Each room will have a different one I can just pick up and read while in there.
  6. I’d rather read at home, but usually take a book, or ebook with me, so I can read when I’m somewhere that I have to be waiting.
  7. Silent, unless I’m reading to my grand-daughter.
  8. Sometimes I skip pages, if the part gets too long with descriptions, or is at a boring part. I like getting right to the action, and conversations best.
  9. If I own the book, I will break the spine first thing. I like the book to lay flat. It’s annoying to have to read in the center ditch.
  10. No, I don’t think I’ve ever written in a book. I will write in game type books, such as crosswords, jumbles, and pencil puzzle books. That’s all.
  11. I’m re-reading quite a lot of books about emotionally disturbed children, by the teachers, therapists, and parents that have helped them. The actual one I’m reading now, and almost finished with is, “A Child Called Noah”, by Josh Greenfeld.
  12. I’ve always loved books and reading, and we went to the library regularly when I was a kid. One book of my own, that I loved and memorized before I could even read was, “The Three Billy Goats Gruff”. In fact, I still have that original book.
  13. My all time favorite book? That’s hard to answer, as each one I read is my favorite at the time. I’d say my favorite by far is, “Lost Souls”, by Poppy Z. Brite. It’s a paranormal, horror novel about vampires. The characters are unforgettable. I base my ‘fan fiction’ story series, on my blog, on this book. I’ve read it many times since it first came out in 1992. Another favorite book is, “The Survival of Jan Little”, by John Man. It is about a woman who is blind, living in the Amazon jungle. I’ve read this one at least once a year, for many years.

Do you ever sit on a park bench for more than ten minutes?

As far as I know we don’t have park benches in any park I’ve seen. That’s not saying much, as I don’t go to any parks. We only have one large park, Mackenzie State Park. There’s not much there. There’s the amusement park in the park, and prairie dog town, and a golf course. A tiny stream, a small branch of the Brazos river, runs through it. There’s some trees, but not really that many, as a storm decimated most of them a few years back. Any other area that might be called a park, is just some space around our many playa lakes. I’ve not really seen any benches anywhere. That’s not to say there aren’t any, as maybe there are. Anyway, to finally answer the question…no, I don’t sit on any park benches, for any length of time.

When you lose electricity in a storm, do you light the candles, turn on the flashlight or use your cell phone for light?

In a storm, I get my flashlight handy, my battery radio, and then I light a bunch of candles. It’s nice.

Would you rather be given $10,000 for your own use or $100,000 to give anonymously to strangers?

At this point, I’d take the $10,000 for my own use. We can sure use it. It would be nice to be able to have plenty of money to give away to others, but I don’t see that happening.

Would you rather take a 2 week vacation with an organized tour or take a cruise of your choice?

Neither one would I be interested in these days. Two weeks away from home is too long. First, we’d have to find someone to come feed and care for our cat, and feed the outside cats and birds. Then, I wouldn’t want an organized tour, having to go and do things that the tour people think would be good. I’d rather be on my/our own to find our own fun. Also, I’m not into being around a lot of people. As for the cruise…absolutely not, for all the same reasons, and then …have you heard about all the disasters that happen to cruises? There can be all kinds of illnesses, people falling or pushed overboard, disappearances, pirates, sinking of the ship, stranded somewhere, and besides, there are fish out there in the water! Oh no…never, ever!

Did you like swinging as a child? Do you still get excited when you see a swing?

I loved to swing! I had a swing set in the back yard. Now, not interested.

What is the most important thing that you ever learned ? (I bet it’s not something you learned in school)

I have no idea. Every day we learn something new, and think it is the most important thing ever, then we learn something else. We probably learn the most during our toddler years, such as walking, talking, and potty training. These will be with you for life, so they are important to learn early. 🙂

Where do you eat breakfast?

I eat breakfast in the living room, on the couch, at a TV tray in front of me, while watching TV or reading a book.

Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want have a evening with?

My whole family.

If you could be a tree or plant, what would you be?

A pine tree, because they smell really good, or a weeping willow tree, because they are so pretty and graceful.

Was school easy or difficult for you? How so?

It seemed like all my school years were easy. I don’t remember many problems with my classes, homework, or grades. That is, all except math and P.E. Those were awful, and my grades were very bad. I got along well with the teachers, and I had some friends to hang out with. In fact, I’m still in contact with a lot of them, even as far back as elementary school.

List some of your favorite types of animals.

Cats, dogs, birds, rodents, reptiles, insects, spiders, tigers, giraffes

What is your favorite large city you have been to? What is the one thing you remember most?

Tokyo, Japan,  Nuremberg, Germany,Austin, TX, Kansas City, and Columbia MO

Tokyo, because it is so vastly different culturally. So many new things to see and do.

Nuremberg, because it is so interesting to see where history happened, the castle, the cobblestone streets, the food.

Austin, because like they say, ‘keep Austin weird’. There are lots of things to do there, interesting shops, and great places to eat.

KC and Columbia MO, because my daughter & family lived both places, and visiting is fun with lots to do and see with them.

Inspirational Blogger Award

Thanks for the nomination for this award, Suze! (you can find her blog by clicking the above link)

Here’s some rules. (do them if you want to…or not)

  1. Answer five questions posed by the person nominating you.
  2. Give one random fact about yourself.
  3. Link back to the blog of the person nomination you.
  4. Link back to the one who nominated you.
  5. Nominate 5 blogs to receive this award
  6. Pose them 5 questions of your own devising (Four personal, one stupid/fun)

These are the questions Suze asked:

My questions to you:

  1. What would your perfect blogging/writing room look like?
  2. When people come to you for help, what do they usually want help with?
  3. Who has impressed you most with what they’ve accomplished?
  4. What is the most annoying question that people ask you?
  5. As the only human left on Earth, what would you do?

My answers:

  1. It would have my computer, a bunch of shelves, and filing cabinets. I’d want a nice desk, with enough space to spread things out, and some drawers for office supplies. I’d have books, knick-knacks, and plants on the shelves. A window, no even better, a glass French type door, leading to a secluded patio space, with lots of flowers and plants, and bird feeders.
  2. I don’t think people come to me for help, that I know of. Sometimes my daughters want an old family favorite recipe, or something.
  3. My grand-daughter
  4. It’s annoying to be asked every day, ‘what do you want for breakfast, lunch, supper…it’s your decision’. I just can’t make decisions like that. I don’t care what we have. I’ll cook whatever, and eat whatever, just don’t make me decide.
  5. The last person on Earth? I don’t know how that would even happen. I’d want to have fun, going into stores and playing around with all the merchandise. Mostly though, I’d be scared. I hate to be alone, even in my own house. As clumsy as I am, I’d probably fall down first thing, and there’d be nobody to help me up! 🙂

***

I guess that would be my random fact about myself…I don’t like being all by myself.

Now, the rest of the rules I don’t do. I don’t usually send out nominations for these, as I feel everyone deserves all the awards. I know how much time and effort it takes to keep up with a blog, so you all should be recognized.

If you want to grab the badge, and accept this award for yourself, please feel free to do that. Answer these same questions, and go have a look at the ones Suze answerd on her blog. There are interesting questions there, too. 🙂

Thanks again, for the nomination, Suze! 🙂

If you had to move to a country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?

I have moved and lived in other countries, but nothing beats coming back home to the USA. If I had to according to the question posed today, I’d say Sweden, Canada, or Australia. I’ve never been to these countries, but for some reason I’m drawn to Sweden, Canada sounds nice, especially BC on the western coast, (thanks for all the wonderful descriptions, Emily) , and Australia because it has some interesting animals that we don’t have here.

What color would you like your bedroom to be?

I only have plain old white walls in this house, and it’s boring. I’d like to paint huge wall sized murals in every room, to depict a different culture in each. For the bedroom, I’d want a jungle scene, with lots of green plants, and also all kinds of animals peeking out of the greenery. The other rooms would be of a Mexican Fiesta, and a Japanese motif.

What makes you Happy? Make a list of things in your life that bring you joy.

  • my family
  • my cat
  • my writing
  • my art
  • reading
  • shopping yard sales
  • rainy/stormy days

The above link will take you to the details of the challenge, and you can also see other entries. 🙂

If you were given the opportunity to ride in a helicopter would go?

I have already taken a ride on a helicopter. It was fun! This was in NYC, and we rode from one airport to another, I believe they were JFK and LaGuardia. For some reason I had to make a connection from the airport I wasn’t at, so they had us go on the helicopter. I still have my helicopter ticket that I’d put in a scrapbook.

What are some of your favorite type of proteins to eat? (meat, seafood, eggs, soy, cheese, nuts)

Meat would be the main protein I eat, such as beef, chicken, and fish. Then, I do like eggs, milk, and cheese.

What would be your preference, awake before dawn, at dawn, or awake before noon?

I can get up any time I want, and it seems I normally wake up before dawn, at about 5 a.m. I used to sleep until about 9, but somehow got into the routine of waking earlier. I like it fine. I get my coffee, feed the cat, and turn on my computer. It’s dark and quiet in here, as I only have the computer screen for light.
