Sabi Saturday is open for a whole week where we share:

  • the vintage/antique items handed down or we “rescue” from garage sales and thrift stores so they don’t end up in a trash bin
  • items we’ve upcycled instead of throwing them away
  • items we’ve repaired in a transformative way to make them more beautiful or cooler than before
  • process or tutorials on how we upcycled or repaired something to make something new, more beautiful, or cooler
  • the main idea is showing how we treasure or reuse or creatively transform things that have some history to them, may be a bit worn but nevertheless are still useful/beautiful and often have character.

Here’s a couple of photos of my old desk.

My parents bought me this desk when I was in elementary school. I used it for all kinds of projects, plus doing my homework on, all the way through high school

It’s brown wood, with a flat top. The front part is slanted and has a little knob. When you pull it down, it forms a flat desk space. Behind this are three middle shelves, and on either side of these are larger open spaces.

Then there is a fairly large open space to put things, and below that is another shelf, that has sliding doors in front.

After I married and moved away, my mom kept this desk and used it as a painting supplies cabinet/desk. She did lots of oil paintings, and this desk helped her organize things.

Many years later, I got the desk back, and it is now in our spare bedroom. I use it all the time, as a craft desk/table. I have all kinds of art supplies in the shelves. It’s kind of messy, but I can find what I need to work on. The flat top makes a good staging area for a lot of my photos now, too.

I’m so glad I still have my old desk. I’ve had it since the 1950s.

MY CHRISTMAS VACATION

MY CHRISTMAS VACATION

Hey…I’m baaack!

Hope everyone had a wonderful and fun Christmas. We sure had a great time. Went out of state to visit family and friends for a few days, celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary at a fancy Italian restaurant, did some shopping, and sightseeing of Christmas lights around the town, played lots of board games with daughter, son-in-law, and grandson, and ate a lot of good food. We just got back home today; had to get up at 3 a. m. to catch our flight back. I’m still sleepy, but got everything unpacked now, and getting back to our normal routine here. Happy there wasn’t a blizzard for us to get stuck in, like last year.

I’ll slowly catch up with all your posts from the last few days. Can’t wait to read what y’all have been up to.

Here’s some of the fun photos I took. 🙂

“Please Introduce Yourself”

Hello! We are the nice lady’s photo albums. We are in a big ‘ol mess over here. The nice lady has no sense of organization, as you can see. We don’t mind too much, because she loves us. She looks at us most every day, flipping through our many pages…and we sure have a lot of pages to flip through. Do you know why she does this? Because, of the photo challenges she does here on her blog. She tries to find a photo to go with a prompt word, or just a photo of whatever she’s writing about.

The nice lady has enjoyed taking photos for many years. she never throws away a photo, even if it is a blooper or out of focus! She even has those old negatives that come with the older photos. This is not all of our photo community, oh no. There are boxes and bags full of us in her closet, and garage, just waiting to be put into albums. someday! There are even lots of photos of people she doesn’t know. She gets them at yard sales and flea markets. We peeked, and they are pretty interesting, too. There are also many photos on her computer and phone. We like living here, because you never know when we will be needed to come to the rescue with a photo that is just right for the nice lady to use. 🙂

CEE’S FUN FOTO CHALLENGE – TRACKS/TRAINS

CEE’S FUN FOTO CHALLENGE – TRACKS/TRAINS untitled

This week we are challenged to find photos of trains, tracks, etc. Here’s how to join in the fun, and to see other entries:

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Tracks – trains, rail tracks, etc.

***

This first photo is of our friends, from quite a few years ago, and an old train. It is at the Ranching Heritage Center, and was moved here to be installed to represent the continuing progress of the area over the years. There are also lots of old houses that have been moved here from their original locations, showing the different eras.

The second two photos were taken while we were in Japan. They are fun little trains for the kids to take a ride on around the area.
