This is a post I had on September 10, 2015. I think it was a writing assignment called, ‘Writing 101 – Photograph Inspiration’. We were to look at the provided photo, and write something about it. Here’s what I wrote, and it had a few views and likes (maybe 5?) Anyway, here it is again – enjoy! 🙂

WRITING 101 … PHOTOGRAPH INSPIRATION

Today, the 4th assignment, we were shown 4 pictures, all interesting. We were to pick one to write whatever we wanted to about the picture, in whatever style you wanted. Here is my interpretation of this picture, in a short fiction piece.

ABANDONEDGOMY9CQSvmjKLxigsfxg_Attic

The late summer’s, afternoon sun has made the attic room at the top of the stairs unbearably hot. I’m already sweating from climbing the rickety, wooden stairs…upward into that sauna of an attic room.

Pausing in the doorway, I take a long look around. There’s nothing much to see…an unadorned window, framed in weathered wood, the slanted wall boards, giving this area of the room a tri-angular shape.

There is no hint in daylight of what is to come at nightfall.

I make my way back down the narrow stairway, taking note of the steps that creak. I must remember not to step on them later. The house is over a hundred years old…now abandoned in it’s declining years. There are spider webs in the shadowy corners, and dust particles make me sneeze. I must remember to wear a mask, when I return.

Sweat now trickles down my forehead, and my t-shirt is soaked. There are signs of mice living here…the only living creatures, besides the spiders, to call this place their home. I hear a skittering behind a wall, and smile. I’m not afraid of the mice. They’ll keep me company tonight, as I search for the abandoned souls of the dead.

For I am a ghost hunter…this is what I do.

This is something I experiment with sometimes – creating random word poems from Google search. I’ve done others and they always turn out pretty cool. So today I went to this place (link below). You enter one word, and the AI will create a poem from your word. Sometimes they make sense, other times not so much, but it’s fun.

It’s from a place called ‘Poem Portraits’.

***

The first word I tried was ‘garden’, and the poem came up.  It says:

“Your garden shines and closes are seen by the sun. This value is the golden flower”.

***

***

Then the second time I typed in the word ‘sea’, and this one came up:

“The sea with a star shall be conquered by sleep. Our destruction shall be calm and still and hard.”

What do you think? Want to try it? Here’s the link:

“Octopus’s Garden’, by the Beatles, was released from their album, “Abbey Road”, in 1969. It was written and sung by Ringo (Richard Starkey), and is on the Apple label.

Here’s a poem I wrote back in 2017, using titles of some books I have.

These are fun to do, as there are tons of combinations you can make, for ideas of poems.

Echoes of Stars

Yearning for my far away home

alone

Howling at the moon

soon

Darkness envelops twinkling lights

meteorites

Lonesome stars shine above

love

Deliver me not left behind

entwined

Capture me never apart

heart

This is the photo…

Directing traffic was Dave’s passion. He was affectionately called Dave the Director by all the regular drivers who passed by his designated station. Everyone would give him a happy wave, and a cheery hello, day after day.

No one knew the real Dave, the man behind the uniform. No one knew why he would blow his whistle, swish his baton all around, guiding the cars and trucks to their destination without fail, but would never speak to them. Someone got curious and googled his profile information, which led to a touching human interest story in the local papers.

Dave B, esteemed member of this community, and well known traffic policeman, passed away at the age of 35, on January 17, 1992. He was interred in City Cemetery, yet it has been reported that he revisits the scene of his accidental death. His presence is seen at the intersection where he was struck down by a speeding car. It is felt that he resumes his position, to aid drivers now, so there will be no more tragedies, like he experienced. For the last 25 years, there has been no more accidents at that location, because of Dave’s ghost watching over all souls who pass by.

No one knew the real Dave…until they read his obituary.
