I’m a big fan of painted rocks. I like them, and I like painting them myself.

I’ve probably painted hundreds over the years, starting back in the early 1970s.

You can find a rock most anywhere you look, or you can buy bunches of them in craft stores, or gardening centers.

The paint I use is acrylic, which comes in all kinds of pretty colors, and dries fast. I usually try to seal with a clear coat, too.

I do these just for fun, but I also give them as gifts, and for the ongoing Kindness Rock fad that happens all over the world.

“You Rock”

With one little rock

From Rock-a-bye-baby, to

Rock around the clock

Rock ‘n roll with Buddy, and

Jenny from the block

Find a painted rock

Happiness unlock

We rock your world,

And I have to say

You’ll be rocked

Day by day

When I leave some rocks to be found, I put one of my labels on the back. It says:

***

I’ve painted rocks for all kinds of holidays, and/or also just a nice, funny, or uplifting message on them.

Sometimes I actually find a rock someone else has left around town. That’s always fun. I post it to the groups, and then re-hide it for someone else to find. 🙂

This quote by Max Ehrmann, has a wonderful message for us to take to heart. There are many times we get overwhelmed with so many activities, demands and requests to do something for others, and yes, daily problems of all kinds.

It’s important to slow down occasionally, take time for yourself, and unwind a bit. We are all individuals, with varied lives to lead wherever we live, and we should honor ourselves, too. We can be of more help to others if we first take care of our own spiritual, mental, and physical health. Take a break from distractions, maybe meditate, relax and breathe in the peace of letting go. We are important, too.

Leaving this challenge open to those who want to participate.

SONG LYRIC SUNDAY – YELLOW RIVER

SONG LYRIC SUNDAY – YELLOW RIVER

https://helenswordsoflife.com/2017/05/27/song-lyric-sunday-theme-for-52817/

***

Today, for Song Lyric Sunday, we are asked to post a song about the military, for Memorial Day.

***

This song, “Yellow River” is one of my favorites. I still have the 45 record of it (see photo).

It is said that the song was inspired by the thought of a soldier coming home after fighting in the Civil War. As it was released during the era of the Viet Nam war, some thought it was about a place there.

I think it is a good song, a happy song, that conveys the relief of a soldier coming home to his family and friends after a long time away, fighting for his country.

***

As an Army wife for over 21 years, we are now retired. I have been, and later our children have been on the home front side, giving support for our soldier, husband, and father.I honor all those who serve in the military, whatever branch they choose. It is not easy. We knew the relief of our loved one coming home after war, when so many of our friends and families did not.

I do not like war. I am for Peace…worldwide.

***

“Yellow River”, by Christie, was released as a single from the album, “Christie”, in 1970, on the labels CBS (UK) and Epic (US). It was written by Jeff Christie.

YELLOW RIVER

***

So long boy you can take my place got my papers I’ve got my pay
So pack my bags and I’ll be on my way to yellow river

Put my guns down the war is won
Fill my glass high the time has come
I’m going back to the place that I love yellow river

Yellow river yellow river is in my mind and in my eyes
Yellow river yellow river is in my blood it’s the place I love
Got no time for explanation got no time to lose
Tomorrow night you’ll find me
Sleeping underneath the moon at yellow river

Cannon fire lingers in my mind I’m so glad that I’m still alive
And I’ve been gone for such a long time from yellow river

I remember the nights were cool I can still see the water pool
And I remember the girl that I knew from yellow river

Yellow river yellow river is in my mind and in my eyes
Yellow river yellow river is in my blood it’s the place I love
