SONG LYRIC SUNDAY – YELLOW RIVER

***

Today, for Song Lyric Sunday, we are asked to post a song about the military, for Memorial Day.

***

This song, “Yellow River” is one of my favorites. I still have the 45 record of it (see photo).

It is said that the song was inspired by the thought of a soldier coming home after fighting in the Civil War. As it was released during the era of the Viet Nam war, some thought it was about a place there.

I think it is a good song, a happy song, that conveys the relief of a soldier coming home to his family and friends after a long time away, fighting for his country.

***

As an Army wife for over 21 years, we are now retired. I have been, and later our children have been on the home front side, giving support for our soldier, husband, and father.I honor all those who serve in the military, whatever branch they choose. It is not easy. We knew the relief of our loved one coming home after war, when so many of our friends and families did not.

I do not like war. I am for Peace…worldwide.

***

“Yellow River”, by Christie, was released as a single from the album, “Christie”, in 1970, on the labels CBS (UK) and Epic (US). It was written by Jeff Christie.

YELLOW RIVER

***

So long boy you can take my place got my papers I’ve got my pay
So pack my bags and I’ll be on my way to yellow river

Put my guns down the war is won
Fill my glass high the time has come
I’m going back to the place that I love yellow river

Yellow river yellow river is in my mind and in my eyes
Yellow river yellow river is in my blood it’s the place I love
Got no time for explanation got no time to lose
Tomorrow night you’ll find me
Sleeping underneath the moon at yellow river

Cannon fire lingers in my mind I’m so glad that I’m still alive
And I’ve been gone for such a long time from yellow river

I remember the nights were cool I can still see the water pool
And I remember the girl that I knew from yellow river

Yellow river yellow river is in my mind and in my eyes
Yellow river yellow river is in my blood it’s the place I love

Beep – Beep – Beep

We interrupt your Saturday blog reading for this special announcement.

Late last night the International Interplanetary Monitoring Division of the Interior (IIMDI) was made aware of intermittent radio signals from our nearest neighboring planet.

Listen, as we replay our interrogation…er…interview with the alien life source …

IIMDI: What would you like the people of Earth to know?

ALS (Alien Life Source): We are all interconnected. We bring universal Peace.

There you have it, folks. Wise words from ALS, indeed.

Thank you for listening to this interesting and important broadcast.

***All words from ALS were translated through our computer interpreter.

***

note…the only prep I did for this was to look up some words starting with ‘inter’.

HOWL – for SOCS – HOW

HOWL – for SOCS – HOW

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Feb. 25/17

***

Todays SOCS – Stream of Consciousness Saturday – has the prompt word ‘how’, to use ‘however’ we want to use it.

How can I come up with something using ‘how’? All I can think of is  little phrases I’ve heard, like ‘how now brown cow’, and ‘how’s it going?’ Also, there are lots of ‘how-to’ videos, and books, showing/telling how to do something. There’s also ‘Howdy Doody’, which was a children’s television show, back in the 50s, using a character marionette. I remember watching that, and thought it was pretty funny. That’s about all I can think of for ‘how’.   … However… I wrote this impromptu poem just now. I actually wrote it on paper, right before I started typing this post. So, it’s basically stream of consciousness poem writing, which is how I usually do my poetry. The words just come to me, pretty fast, and I write them down in a hurry, so as not to forget ‘how’ it went in my head. Anyway…hope you enjoy my poem. It uses ‘how’ in a different way. 🙂

This writing prompt # 11 is to mention our favorite Christmas carol. I’m still a bit confused as to what the difference is, if any, between a Christmas Carol, and a Christmas Song. Looking it up, it was still a bit confusing. I’d say all Christmas ‘music’ of any type, would be songs, if they are sung. The explanation, though, was that the ‘carol’ is more of a religious type.

So, I’m not really sure if this one I chose is a Carol, or a Song, but it is one of my favorite ones to hear at Christmas time. 🙂

I love the words, the music, the meaning, and hopefulness, and that it encourages people to pray for peace for everyone.

I’ve had the pleasure of attending 3 concerts of the lovely Jana Stanfield. She hails from a small NM town not far from here, and every so often schedules a musical performance here. The venues are usually small, and friendly. The ones I saw were at a church, a swimming pool outdoor area, and a private ranch/restaurant. In fact, at the restaurant, it was a BBQ supper, and Ms Stanfield sat at our table, to chat.

She describes her songs/music as “Heavy Mental”, as she always has a positive message to deliver, with humor. She is booked as a keynote speaker all around the world, where she is also an advocate for humanitarian and peace endeavors. If you ever get a chance to attend one of her concerts, you won’t be disappointed.

A to Z BLOG CHALLENGE 2016 – LETTER P

A to Z BLOG CHALLENGE 2016 – LETTER P 4bd62ad9-ea74-4273-967b-7c426c911c61 IMG_2559

For today’s letter to write about, we have the letter P.

It probably won’t come as a surprise to you, that I’m writing about the Peace Sign.

~

Letter P is for…Peace Sign

The Peace Sign is a symbol for peace, and is recognized world-wide. This logo was designed back in 1958, by Gerald Holtom, a British man, who was well known for his designs for other things. He was asked to design a new logo for the CND, which was the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. After much thought, Mr. Holtom remembered that the semaphore letters, made by different flag positions, and liked the look of the letters N and D. They would stand for the campaign, so he put them together, with the resulting image of the peace sign. When he turned it upside down, it too had meaning for him. It resembled the tree of life, with hope and resurrection, and also looked like a person’s arms stretched upward, which in semaphore meant the letter U. He figured the letter U could stand for Unilateral, as in Unilateral Nuclear Disarmament, too. (source: Wikipedia)

So, his design for the logo was accepted, and is now well known.
