Pull up a Seat Photo Challenge-Week 8

Here’s some interesting chairs. Well, of course you can see they are chairs…but, let me tell you about them.

The red & white ones, if I remember right, were in a local ice cream parlor place. It was all done up in a 50s theme, and really cute in there. The ice cream was very good, too.

The yellow/orange decorated one is done up for the Mexican holiday of Day of the Dead – Dia de los Muertos – Oct. 31st – Nov. 2nd of each year. I saw the chair at an art trail display locally, when we went one year.

The blue chair was at the same venue, as part of an ofrenda display. An ofrenda is an offering made by someone to honor those that have passed over.

The little red chairs are part of another ofrenda, that has tiny skeletons sitting in them.

Last, is just a painting of skeletons dancing, which is another Day of the Dead decoration. I found it at a yard sale a long time ago.

OCTPOWRIMO 2016 – DAY 8 – POROUS octpowrimo2016c

Porous …means to have tiny holes, or spaces, for air or light to pass through.

All Souls Day, Dia de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, is celebrated in the autumn of each year, on November 2. People honor their loved ones who have died. It is believed the veil between the dimensions of the living and the dead is thinner at this time of year, so all the souls are able to visit more readily. Offerings of food, trinkets, and flowers are gathered to bring to the graves, or an ofrenda in the home. It is a nice custom, and not scary at all.

Come alive, come alive, come alive through the veil

Through porous dimensions all souls will sail

Offerings of food and marigold flowers

Treasure your departed in these mysterious hours

Photos taken by me at a Dia de los Muertos Celebration…
