I’m a fan of handwriting. I like to write everything down in all kinds of notebooks, and have a lot of them.

I don’t know how those handwriting experts can tell things about a person by looking at their handwriting, though. I guess there’s some science to it. I know for me, I like to try writing different ways. It also depends on if I’m writing in a hurry, jotting something down, or going slowly trying to make it look pretty. It also makes a difference with what you use to write with, be it a marker, a ball-point pen, an old fashioned ink pen, or pencils.

I remember I got into trouble at school once, I think it was 5th grade, because I tended to slant my writing toward the left instead of to the right, like the books said you were supposed to. Whatever…I didn’t change how I wrote after that, either.

I do believe every person’s handwriting style is unique to them. I know I’ve gotten letters and such from people and immediately know who it from just by seeing the handwriting. I’ll bet you have, too. 🙂

JUST JOT IT JANUARY – # 17 – COLLECTION

JUST JOT IT JANUARY – # 17 – COLLECTION untitled

Today’s prompt word is Collection. To find out more about this month long challenge, click below:

Just Jot It January 17th – Collection

~

Collection is a nice way to say I have a lot of ‘stuff’. I tend to accumulate things, more than outright collecting them. I don’t go out of my way to find/buy certain items just for adding to an ever growing group of things.

I mostly have books. So many books. There are two 5-shelf shelves, and a 2-shelf shelf, and a huge antique hutch, with the top and bottom parts, that are all filled, several books deep. Then there’s the stacks of books, that are getting taller, too. Some of these have been read, some have not. Twice a year the library has a huge book sale, which I cannot pass up, and the regular visits to the  book stores in town. My kindle is hoarding even more! What can I say? I love to read.

As for other ‘collections’, I have a lot of jewelry, none expensive, because I like wearing a lot of it. I’ll have several necklaces and bracelets on at the same time. Earrings, too, as I have more than one piercing. So, there’s that.

I have a collection of crosses, of metal, wood, and glass, up above my desk here. I find these at yard sales.

Somehow I got into collecting novelty salt and pepper shakers. I was given a set many years ago, and it’s been added to over the years. I’ve never bought any, myself, they are all given by friends, and family. I have entered some of my antique S&Ps in the local fair, under Relics and Antiques, and won ribbons on them. Most of the ones I have are packed away, as I have no good shelf or display case to put them right now.

I know there are other ‘accumulations’ I have, including lots of journaling notebooks…lots! I get some as gifts, and some I buy, especially if it has a cool cover. 🙂

So, hope you’ve enjoyed hearing about some of the things I have!

This is a picture of the S&P identification and value guide I have, and a couple of S&Ps that happen to be out at the moment!

FIREPROOF

Standard

Today’s assignment from Daily Post, Writing 201: Poetry … We were tasked with writing an ode, a drawer (and what you find there), and the apostrophe…which is addressing a specific person or object.

~

FIREPROOF

You may be square, and plain, and blue,

But file drawer, how I worry for you.

Inside, you hold magnificent treasure…

Irreplaceable dreams, the muses pleasure.

Words upon words, fill spirals with care,

A three-ring circus of notebooks, there.

Large ones, small ones, thick ones, and thin,

A spectrum of colors, without and within.

Dear file drawer, you hold secrets so dear,

You’re fireproof, I know, yet still I fear.

The tragedies and triumphs, the dramas you hold,

Your safekeeping I trust, for my stories untold.

A to Z CHALLENGE

Today’s letter is……N

Thank you for stopping by! Comments welcome! Happy reading!

NOTEBOOKS ARE NIFTY

I really do like notebooks. I have a lot of notebooks. I’ve written in lots of notebooks.

Ahhh…the thrill of getting those new school supplies each year. You may not have been happy about the end of summer vacation, but, oh what fun it was to shop for the things you needed for the new school year.

There was always a list of items to have, for your grade level, which included the basics. For the primary grades, of course, were the crayons, with their waxy smell that promised lots of amazing pictures to be drawn and colored, the small safety scissors, the glue, a pencil or two, and a tablet to write on. In the higher grades, however, you got…the notebook! The three-ring binder, and the filler paper to go inside, was a big step up.

You’d spend a lot of time , looking for just the right one. You wanted to be cool and trendy…not just any one would do. Some were plain colors, some had cute pictures on the front, and then, there were the plastic pocket ones…the ones where you could insert a picture of your choosing inside. If you wanted a picture of a rock star, you just cut one out of a teen magazine to put inside the clear pocket. Other times, you might want a cute animal picture, or a real snapshot. It was ‘your’ notebook, and it let everyone know your interests.

Then a new fad came along. It was the ‘Nifty Notebook’. In the 1960’s it was the one everyone wanted. Instead of the three rings to hold your paper, it featured two posts that snapped together with a magnetized lid (which also could hold a pen or pencil inside). You had to buy special, two holes at the top paper for it. Mine was blue!

There many types of notebooks to choose from. Some, as I’ve mentioned, and some that are spirals, composition, Trapper Keepers, assignments, steno, and all kinds of journals and diarys.

Notebooks are useful in so many ways – just plain Nifty!
