From a Wiki article:

The Manekineko (招き猫, lit. ‘beckoning cat’) is a common Japanese figurine which is often believed to bring good luck to the owner. In modern times, they are usually made of ceramic or plastic. The figurine depicts a cat, traditionally a calico Japanese Bobtail, with a paw raised in a Japanese beckoning gesture.

I love these little Maneki-Neko cats. I think this was one we saw at a restaurant one time. They are a symbol for good luck with their paw raised up. We saw them in Japan, and we see them in restaurants, and at airports.

I saw this very large good fortune cat at a restaurant in Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport.

In Japan it is known as Maneki Neko, or the beckoning cat. It is supposed to be waving good luck to it’s owners.

And, here is a cute little Tuxedo kitty, just taking it easy.
