There was lots of good music back when I was in high school. This is one I remember and like a lot, from the year I graduated.

***

“Baby I Love You”, by Andy Kim, was released in 1969. It was written by Phil Spector, Jeff Barry, and Ellie Greenwich, and is on the Steed Records label. It was originally recorded by the Ronettes in 1963. Kim’s version became a US Top Ten hit, reaching number nine in 1969 and earned a gold record.[9]

Today’s prompt ‘Spring’, comes from our host, Bee. Thanks so much!

I couldn’t find much about this song, except the below information. It’s a new one for me, but I do like it a lot, and there are some pretty scenes on the video.

***

This song doesn’t actually mention love, but you can tell she loves her homeland in the south, especially in the spring.

“Southland in the Springtime”, by the Indigo Girls, can be found on their 1990 studio album. It was produced by Scott Litt, and is on the Epic label.

This prompt today is one of my suggestions. I like all kinds of rock songs which is favorite type of music to listen to. That was the only problem – so many I like, and most all are about love in some way or another.

I do like this song a lot, though. My daughter saw them in concert a long time ago. Wish I had.

“Love Song”, by Tesla, was released from their 1989 album, “the Great Radio Controversy”. It was written by Jeff Keith and Frank Hannon, and is on the Geffen label.

The song reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also became a gold record.

Okay, sometimes it seems like a race to see who gets to post a song first among the challenge participants. I know it’s all for the fun of listening to the music, though. Such was the case today. I first had the Connie Fransis song, “Stupid Cupid” all ready to go. And then I had this one, “Cupid” ready to go. However, others posted them first.

So, I’m going with the same songs, but by different artists. I like all the versions, myself.

Jim, who suggested this topic today posted the original, with lots of interesting information included about the song and also about Cupid. You can find his here: https://jimadamsauthordotcom.wordpress.com/2020/02/14/draw-back-your-bow/

And Mel, at Caramel (Learner at Love) posted the Connie Fransis song, and can be found here: https://crushedcaramel.wordpress.com/2020/02/14/stop-picking-on-me/

“Cupid”, by Johnny Rivers, is a song written by Sam Cooke in 1961. Rivers cover was released in 1964.

***

“Stupid Cupid”, by Mandy Moore. It can be found on the 2001 soundtrack album, “The Princess Diaries”, on the Walt Disney label.

I always liked this song. My take on it is that the guy is lamenting the loss of his intended love, and is selling the diamond ring he had planned on giving her. It is his hope that someone else finds a love that will last.

***

“This Diamond Ring”, by Gary Lewis and the Playboys, was released from their album of the same name, in 1965. It was written by Al Kooper, Bob Brass, and Irwin Levine, and is on the Liberty label. Gary Lewis is the son of comedian Jerry Lewis.

Today’s prompt comes from our host, Bee. We are to find a song that was popular in the year we were born. Thanks, Bee!

While I was looking for one, I found mostly ones I didn’t really like much. They were so slow, and kind of too mushy for my taste. Oh well, I did find this one that is pretty peppy, and I had heard of the singer before, and the song.

The song seems to be about a girl who loves dancing to the music with her love interest. For some reason the music sound like someone is tap dancing! 🙂

***

According to the article I was reading, this song made it up to # 4 on the top 100 for the year 1950. It is also known as, “Put Another Nickle In (the Nickleodeon).

A nickelodeon is an old fashioned coin-operated machine that plays music. You can also call a nickelodeon a “jukebox.”

4 Teresa Brewer (Put Another Nickel In) Music! Music! Music!

“Music, Music, Music”, by Teresa Brewer (with the Dixieland All Stars), was released in 1950. It was written by Stephen Weiss, and Bernie Baum, and is on the London Records label.

Today’s prompt was suggested by Paula of “Light Motifs II” and is “A love song for your family in general”. Thanks so much for your suggestion, Paula.

I was looking back at this challenge last year, and I’d posted this song on the 15th of February. It’s still a great song (with a different video this time), about starting a family with the birth of a darling little baby.

This song is one of Creed’s that I really like. I like a lot of their songs, too. Here we have Scott Stapp writing and singing about the time he found out he was to become a father. He is awestruck by the fact, and that his life is about to change…he’ll have new responsibilities to his child, showing him everything good the world has to offer, including love.

***

“With Arms Wide Open”, by Creed, was released in 2000 from their album, “Human Clay”. It was written by Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti, and is on the Wind-up label.
