Fair

***

This is an actual ticket to the fair in our home town. It comes to town every September. They would give all the school kids a a free ticket, and we almost never missed a chance to go.

***

I haven’t been to our fair in a long time, but enjoyed it from the time I was a kid. There was the regular midway, with rides and games of chance to try. There are lots of food joints, my favorite being the fresh lemonade stand. There used to be side shows too. I remember seeing a sword swallower that to me was pretty scary.

They also have the livestock barns we’d have to go see, and the merchant’s buildings to wander through.

The whole atmosphere of a fair is unique, I think, with excitement in the air, the carnival barkers hollering, and music playing. Lots of fun.

I wrote a longer post about our annual hometown fair last year, if you’d like to read it. This is the link: https://wp.me/p3RE1e-5ND

Here’s a cute song we used to sing all the time.

This is something I experiment with sometimes – creating random word poems from Google search. I’ve done others and they always turn out pretty cool. So today I went to this place (link below). You enter one word, and the AI will create a poem from your word. Sometimes they make sense, other times not so much, but it’s fun.

It’s from a place called ‘Poem Portraits’.

***

The first word I tried was ‘garden’, and the poem came up.  It says:

“Your garden shines and closes are seen by the sun. This value is the golden flower”.

***

***

Then the second time I typed in the word ‘sea’, and this one came up:

“The sea with a star shall be conquered by sleep. Our destruction shall be calm and still and hard.”

***

What do you think? Want to try it? Here’s the link:

Torn from the land

Dirt walls of sand

Warnings of dust

Stay in – you must

Haboobs and storms

Creating strange forms of

dunes and desolation

***

I’ve been through so many sand storms and warnings over the years.

We live in a semi-desert area, so it’s very common to see the sand blowing

and turning the sky brown. It can get so bad they send out warnings, as it

can obscure everything, much like a white out of snow…only this is pure dirt.

Here’s a cute song though:

Music, at its essence, is what gives us memories. And the longer a song has existed in our lives, the more memories we have of it. ~  Stevie Wonder

Like sunshine, music is a powerful force that can instantly and almost chemically change your entire mood. ~ Michael Franti

Music has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of themselves for a few hours.  ~ Elton John

Three Things Challenge The Warning

Three Things Challenge – The Warning

***

***

These are the prompt words for today. Thanks so much for hosting this fun challenge, Paula! 🙂

Recent prompt words:

organ, attic, watermelon

kindergarten, oak, champagne

***

They had been warned many times, but the kindergarten kids didn’t care. They thought it was just a joke, and so they kept on with their fun and games.

Every generation before them did the same, and it eventually became a yearly tradition for the town.

The Watermelon Festival was always held in the month of June, while the sun was hot, and everyone wanted a break…something fun to do.

And so they would gather under the old oak trees in the town park. The children would run and play, giggling at their elders warnings.

Soon, from the open upstairs attic window of the old mansion located there on the park grounds, the eerie organ music could be heard. It was the requiem they were waiting for…for the person who’d grown the largest watermelon.  It was time to cut them open. Those sun ripened fruits, sweet and red, and juicy begged to be eaten.

The mayor called for attention, wishing everyone a pleasant day, a profitable year, and again repeated the oft told warning.

The ceremony began with the popping of champagne corks, sparkling bubbles poured into the grown-up’s glasses, and toasts were made.

The children were given huge slices of the watermelons, and they ate, dripping juice all down their arms, with sticky smiles. The warning went unheeded.

Don’t eat the seeds! You may be the next person sacrificed for growing the largest watermelon in your stomach.

These are fun to do, as there are tons of combinations you can make, for ideas of poems.

MY LOST LOVE

I wrote

You a mushy love poem

Down my arm

On display for all to see

I Love You – Be Mine

Thinking you loved me too, but

You laughed

You said nothing to my face

Turned away

I must have read your mind wrong

Now you are gone

I feel like a fool, and lament

My Lost Love
