Welcome to the 2018 edition of the A to Z Blogging Challenge!

All through the month of April, the challenge asks us to blog every day (except Sundays), and to go through the alphabet A to Z, connecting our posts to the letter of each day.

My idea for this time, my 5th to participate, is to showcase a book or two each day, and provide a tiny bit of information about them. These will not be a full book review, but just saying what it is about, and if I liked the book or not.

These books are mostly books that I already have on my shelves, and have read, or are on my to be read stacks. There will be a very few of them that I don’t already own, or have read.

I will also post a quote each day that has something to say about books, or reading.

Hope you enjoy, and maybe see a book or a few that you might want to read, too.

“Kabul Beauty School”, by Deborah Rodriguez, is an eye-opening look at one woman’s personal journey in Afghanistan.

Traveling to the war torn country with a group of humanitarian aid workers, she wasn’t very sure of what she could help out with, but she found her calling after all. Being a professional hair-dresser by trade, she realized that the Western workers, and the Afghan women alike, welcomed her expertise in fixing hair.

The author eventually opened her own beauty shop/school in Kabul, in 2003, with the help of sponsors. As she began to know more and more women, they began to tell their own personal stories, some quite tragic. This community of women formed the bonds of friendship, and learning of each other’s cultures, in spite of adverse circumstances.

“Killer Stuff”, by Sharon Fiffer, is just one of the books in a whole series with the main character. Jane Wheel is her name, and she loves to go to estate sales, flea markets, and auctions. She buys stuff for an antique dealer to re-sell, but keeps a lot of it for herself. She just can’t help it. Along the way, she always finds some kind of crime to be solved. For some reason, she falls into the mystery and must help solve it. She has a funny family, which we see in all the books, too.

If you like mystery solving, yard sales, and very funny incidents, you’ll like this series. I’ve read them all, and wish there were more.
