The color of the day is ‘Chestnut’.

This color is basically a deep reddish-brown hue. It is to represent the color of the nuts from a Chestnut tree.

The way I understand it (from Wikipedia explanation), is that Crayola had this color in it’s boxes before, but it was called Indian Red. They decided to change it’s name to Chestnut in 1999, because people thought it was not PC, I guess, thinking it referred to Native American skin color. Actually, it was to represent the color of the natural pigments containing iron oxide. It is a popular color to use in India.

This photo has some colors of Chestnut in there. The sign says ‘hitching post’. We see it all the time out by our grocery store, and it is for hitching your horse to the rail, while you go in to shop. Yes, here in our city, people still ride their horses around sometimes. 🙂

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Signs

Here’s some interesting signs I saw. I like taking photos of funny signs wherever I go. When a sign has part of the letters missing I have to laugh at the blooper it makes!

I saw the red number balloons at the grocery store. At first I didn’t know why they were there. Then, down below is the price of the roses, on a sign.

The next photo says it’s a ‘hitching post’. Which it is. It is at our local grocery store for people who ride their horses to the store. The hitch their horse up to the rail before going into to shop (well, I hope they wouldn’t bring the horse inside!)

The beer sign was on the window of a bar in Missouri. Of course I had to have a photo of it! 🙂

This is a picture outside of one of our city’s major grocery stores. It is a hitching post set up for those who ride their horses to the store, and need to park the horse somewhere. 🙂 I’ve seen horses tied up there on many occasions. Looks like the sign has the color ‘chestnut’ on it 🙂

HITCHING POST

Standard

When you ride your horse to the grocery store, do you have trouble finding a parking spot?

If you live in my city, you won’t have any problems. The local grocery store has provided a hitching post for shopper’s convenience.  Now you have a special place to leave your horse, while you shop.

The hitching post is on a grassy area right next to the car parking lot. It isn’t unusual to see people riding their horses down the street, or around Imagethe playa lake by our house. It’s no different, seeing a horse patiently waiting, there at the grocery store hitching post.

So get your boots on, saddle up, and ride on over. For a closer look at how a modern city keeps it’s ties with the old west, watch a short video and learn how it all came about.
