The color of the day is ‘Chestnut’.
This color is basically a deep reddish-brown hue. It is to represent the color of the nuts from a Chestnut tree.
The way I understand it (from Wikipedia explanation), is that Crayola had this color in it’s boxes before, but it was called Indian Red. They decided to change it’s name to Chestnut in 1999, because people thought it was not PC, I guess, thinking it referred to Native American skin color. Actually, it was to represent the color of the natural pigments containing iron oxide. It is a popular color to use in India.
This photo has some colors of Chestnut in there. The sign says ‘hitching post’. We see it all the time out by our grocery store, and it is for hitching your horse to the rail, while you go in to shop. Yes, here in our city, people still ride their horses around sometimes. 🙂
