SOCS – Stream of Consciusness Saturday – Shortcut/Cut Short

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Nov. 4/17

Today, Linda has asked us to write about ‘short cuts’, or ‘cut short’.

If you’d like to join in this weekly challenge, you can find the details at the above link.

Short cuts, as in faster ways to do things, I suppose. I don’t usually do short cuts, as I get confused unless I follow every direction, one by one, to get to a result. Even then, I may not understand it. So, can’t say much about that. However, I did do a short cut once. I wrote about it in a diary I had. It only said, ‘I found a new way home – the alley’. I thought it was a cool way to go home from school, and that it would make it a shorter walk. Yes, we walked to school, which from my house was about 8 blocks or so away. Anyway, walking down the alleys was fun, and you never knew what you’d find.

Next we have ‘cut short’. That reminds me of getting my hair cut. I don’t like short hair on myself. I’ve had it short, before, but always let it grow out. There were a few times I went to get just a little trimmed off, or some layers put in my long hair, and the stylist went overboard, cutting my hair way too short, as in I had to go get a wig to wear until my hair grew out again. That’s why I only cut my own hair now, just a little off the bangs and top, to keep it out of my eyes. I’ll never trust a stylist again.

Anyway, I’ll leave it at that, and wish y’all a lovely weekend. Here’s a photo I took just a few minutes ago. 🙂

For this week’s challenge, I’m featuring the song, “Good Morning Starshine”. It’s one of my favorite songs to sing along too, I think because it is such a happy song.

This song was sung by William Oliver Swofford (1945-2000). He was an American pop singer, better known for only his middle name, Oliver. “Good Morning Starshine” was released in 1969, on the label Jubilee, and written by James Rado, Gerome Ragni, & Galt MacDermot. The song was heard in the musical “Hair”.

Black, burgundy, cherry red, auburn, yellow, brown, white, gray…I’ve had them all in my hair colors. I’ve had my hair permed, curly, frosted, straight, ironed, and crimped.  I’ve used curling irons, permanent rods, crimping irons, pink sponge rollers, those hard bristly rollers, orange juice cans, rags, and hot rollers. My hair has been very short, medium length, and really long. I’ve had it in high pony tails, low pony tails, and braids. I’ve worn wigs, falls, and wiglets. Now, I am trying to decide if I want to let my hair go natural (gray/white/brown), or dye it again. I get so tired of the whole process of dying it, whether at home by myself doing it, or going to a salon, which is expensive.

I have a friend who once told me she wished she had the ‘good’ hair, like mine. Huh? I liked her hair better. It was thick and a bit wavy. Mine is thin, wispy, baby fine, and straight. It won’t hold a curl more than a few minutes, if that. But, it seems we all want something different than what we have.

Anyway, that’s my hair story, except for the time I caught it on fire. 🙂  That’s another story, another day.
