I was just thinking about weighing stuff the other day. We were at the grocery store, and as I was looking around in the fruit and vegetable section, I noticed there weren’t any of those hanging scales. You know the ones, that have a container type thing a ma jig where you put something in, and see how much it weighs. That’s because lots of produce is sold by the pound weight, and you might need to know.

But, there were no scales at all. There used to be several of them. I wonder why they took them away?

Now for the word way, I could say there is no way to weigh the foods. As far as I know whey is not usually weighed.

What is whey, anyway? Is that the milky stuff you find in cottage cheese? Is it like the little poem about the spider, and the little girl is eating her curds and whey?

Well, anyway, that’s all I have for this time.

Have a fun weekend! 🙂

This is a month of blue! It’s a fun challenge created by Becky of “The Life of B”, and each day we show something blue. The only rule beside blue, is that the photo MUST be SQUARE!

As an added bonus, I’ve found songs with blue in the title or lyrics. 🙂

Thanks, Becky!

This is the Wizard.

He is wearing  tall blue & brimmed hat with gold stars on it. He has a long white beard.

I got the Wizard a long time ago at the grocery store. He was full of magic and candy.

It was a fun trip to the store, and we were all acting silly, as it was late at night, and hardly anyone was in the store, besides us and the checkers.

Oh, speaking of Wizards … reminds me of a thing we used to do as kids. There was a phone number we could call to hear the Wizard. I have no idea why, but it made these mysterious sounds when you called the number. All the kids did it, and talked about it at school.

The first photo is the square one. The second photo is a long view of the whole wizard in his blue robes.

Today we are asked to post about a song that brings back a happy memory.

This song is a bluesy, and somewhat sad song, but I have a good memory of it.

I love all Elton John’s songs, so have good memories of most of them, as well as most other songs. I’ve posted so many on here, so it was a bit hard to find one I hadn’t talked about.

You know when you’re at the grocery store, and you hear the store’s speakers playing songs? I admit, I sing along to them as I’m going up and down the aisles. I even see the store’s workers singing along to songs, too. This being one of my favorite songs that my daughter and I like to hear, we were going along singing this song, really loud, and sort of dancing around. It was fun. 🙂

“I Guess Why They Call It the Blues”, by Elton John, was released as a single from the album, “Too Low for Zero”, in 1983. It was written by Elton John, Bernie Taupin, andDavey Johnstone, and is on the label Rocket and Geffen (US).

Don’t wish it away
Don’t look at it like it’s forever
Between you and me I could honestly say
That things can only get better

And while I’m away
Dust out the demons inside
And it won’t be long before you and me run
To the place in our hearts where we hide

And I guess that’s why they call it the blues
Time on my hands could be time spent with you
Laughing like children, living like lovers
Rolling like thunder under the covers
And I guess that’s why they call it the blues

Just stare into space
Picture my face in your hands
Live for each second without hesitation
And never forget I’m your man

Wait on me girl
Cry in the night if it helps
But more than ever I simply love you
More than I love life itself

And I guess that’s why they call it the blues
Time on my hands could be time spent with you
Laughing like children, living like lovers
Rolling like thunder under the covers
And I guess that’s why they call it the blues

Wait on me girl
Cry in the night if it helps
But more than ever I simply love you
More than I love life itself

And I guess that’s why they call it the blues
Time on my hands could be time spent with you
Laughing like children, living like lovers
Rolling like thunder under the covers
And I guess that’s why they call it the blues

And I guess that’s why they call it the blues
And I guess that’s why they call it the blues

This is a picture outside of one of our city’s major grocery stores. It is a hitching post set up for those who ride their horses to the store, and need to park the horse somewhere. 🙂 I’ve seen horses tied up there on many occasions. Looks like the sign has the color ‘chestnut’ on it 🙂

GROCERY STORE ANGEL

GROCERY STORE ANGEL

(A Test From an Angel in an Unlikely Place)

This incident happened a few years ago. It was on Christmas Eve, if I remember correctly. The unlikely place was the grocery store.

I’d gone to the store to get some last minute items. The store was crowded, as they were to close early that night. I was over in produce, and this nondescript woman started a conversation with me. She was shorter than me, and had on a beige coat, a scarf, and glasses. Her hair was light brown, going gray, and it was messy. She also had a slight disability in her speech and demeanor.

I can’t remember the exact conversation, but it was about the fruits and vegetables, and also about the crowds, and Christmas…things like that. It was a little hard to understand her, but she was nice, and I talked to her for a bit. Then I went on with my shopping.

However, everywhere I went in the store, this woman would be there, too. I didn’t see her come up the aisle, and I don’t think she had a basket, but there she’d be, still wanting to talk. So this went on the whole time I was there.

I kept getting this really strong feeling…and I kept thinking about angels…for no reason. Then, I thought, maybe this woman is an angel. I couldn’t shake the feeling, it just kept getting stronger. Well, I kept talking to her, as everywhere I went in the store, she would be there right beside me.

Then, I seemed to get an inkling…or revelation…of why this was happening. This was a test…a test to see if I was perceptive, and could recognize what was going on. And of my compassion for those less fortunate with disabilities, and in how I responded and treated this woman.

There was definitely some kind of reason for this to be going on…I knew that, then. Well, in the end, I went to check out my groceries, and I said goodbye to her. The regular clerks said they’d never seen her in the store before, either. I never saw her again, but she will remain in my memories of that night.

Now, I don’t know for sure if angels appear as regular people, at random times, or for what reasons, but in my mind, this is what it was.

HITCHING POST

Standard

When you ride your horse to the grocery store, do you have trouble finding a parking spot?

If you live in my city, you won’t have any problems. The local grocery store has provided a hitching post for shopper’s convenience.  Now you have a special place to leave your horse, while you shop.

The hitching post is on a grassy area right next to the car parking lot. It isn’t unusual to see people riding their horses down the street, or around Imagethe playa lake by our house. It’s no different, seeing a horse patiently waiting, there at the grocery store hitching post.

So get your boots on, saddle up, and ride on over. For a closer look at how a modern city keeps it’s ties with the old west, watch a short video and learn how it all came about.
