Ideas to share for Sabi Saturday:

  • the vintage/antique items handed down or we “rescue” from garage sales and thrift stores so they don’t end up in a trash bin
  • items we’ve upcycled instead of throwing them away
  • items we’ve repaired in a transformative way to make them more beautiful or cooler than before
  • process or tutorials on how we upcycled or repaired something to make something new, more beautiful, or cooler
  • the main idea is showing how we treasure or reuse or creatively transform things that have some history to them, may be a bit worn but nevertheless are still useful/beautiful and often have character.

This is a little brown and white puppy dog made of plaster of Paris (I think). Looks like a Cocker Spaniel to me.

Anyway, it belonged to my Granny. Every time we went over to her house, I wanted to see this little dog. I don’t know why, but I just loved it.

I do have it now, and I keep it in a glass & wood shelving unit that belonged to my mom. It has other things in there that I’ve got a good memory of.

This little dog, though, now that I look at it more closely, has a sticker on the leg. It’s hard to read, but says it is a souvenir of maybe someplace in Missouri? The letters are half-way messed up, but I can make out Ne ??? Mo.

On the back is some writing that must have been from my aunt Nina to her mom – my Granny.

It says April 1955  – To – mama – from Nina.

Even though it is old, and has been broken in several places, then glued back together, I’m glad I still have this little puppy dog since I liked it so much when I was a kid. 🙂

Different views of the brown & white dog:

  • laying down facing right – shows brown fluffy curly hair ears, stubby tail (cream & white colored body)
  • facing to the front
  • showing the red & yellow souvenir sticker
  • showing the bottom with writing from my aunt

“Please Introduce Yourself”

Good day! Happy to have you visit!

We are a small collection of pitchers. We are also small. We used to belong to the nice lady’s granny. She collected little pitchers to set on her what-not shelves. The nice lady had given her two of us, and inherited the other ones pictured here. I don’t know what happened to all the rest of our crew that resided with granny. I suppose the other grandchildren received some to take to their houses.

Hi, I’m the tall one on the left. I came from Germany. The nice lady bought me as a souvenir from the city she lived in, Furth, Germany. I was mailed across the ocean to meet her granny and the other pitchers there.

Aloha! I’m here on the far right. I come from Hawaii. I was sent to granny by the nice lady, when she spent some time in Honolulu, HI. It was across another ocean that I came. I was happy to meet everyone.

Hey, don’t forget us! We’re in the middle. We came from somewhere, too. Pretty little rose pitcher was here when I got here. I came from Colorado…the Royal Gorge. I’m sorry, I don’t know who sent me to granny, but it may have been the nice lady’s mom. I know she and the nice lady and her family visited the beautiful gorge many years ago, and must have took me along when they went back home. I was happy to be given to granny, as she loved all her pitcher collection.
We will say good-bye for now. We live with the nice lady, in the hutch that her uncle built. 🙂
