Bird of the Day –

BOTD: September 29, 2019

***

Just looking out my front door and I see three birds on the fence.

One flew away, and that left two birds on the fence

Then over on the out door swing frame, there is just one bird left.

The first two photos I think they are grackles, and the third photo is of a dove.

Bird of the Day – Gathering Around the Water Cooler

BOTD: August 19, 2019 Great-tailed Grackle

***

Every day the birds gather around the water cooler (the water bowl) out on the back porch. In these photos there are the always present doves, and some grackles.

The grackles love to pick a piece of cat food and dip it in the water for a second. 🙂

photos show:

  • 3 gray doves around blue water bowl
  • 5 gray doves and a black grackle on the porch (one grackle farther off in the grass)
  • Brownish grackle sitting on rim of water bowl, and then dipping piece of cat food into water

~Birds of a feather flock together~

***

I’ve heard and said this many times, and believe it’s true.

The quote is said to have been first used in the year 1545, when William Turner wrote in, “Rescuing of Ronish Fox” –

“Byrdes of on kynde and color flok and flye allwayes together”.

***

Here’s my photos of birds flying and flocking together, all taken within a couple of minutes of each other. I believe this birds are grackles, and there are a lot of them around here. They come to our bird feeder, and roost in the treetops. They are also very loud with their unmistakable voices.

The photos were taken on December 19, 2017, between 5:37 and 5:39 p.m. with my phone camera. You can see the pretty orange sky and the tree, then the birds all came flying and flocking in to land at the top of the tree, as the clouds change colors, and lift.
