Flower of the Day – August Gladiolus

***

This is a pink Gladiolus, which is the named flower of the month of August. It’s also called a ‘sword lily’ because of the shape of it’s leaves. One meaning is this flower symbolizes love at first sight and the giver’s heart is pierced with love. (I found this info on a Wiki article)

I always liked these flowers, and I learned something new about them. While looking up the correct spelling I saw that I’ve been thinking wrong about it. I thought it was spelled and said as ‘gladiolas’ …with an a. But, no…it is with the letter ‘u’…gladiolus. Also it is sometimes called the sword flower. Interesting. 🙂
