Chug-a-Lug – Song Lyric Sunday – Drink IMG_1345

Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 8/5/18

***

For today’s SLS, we have the prompt word, ‘drink’. Thanks, Helen!

There are a lot of songs about drinking, and types of drinks. This is one I’ve always liked, because it’s funny. Roger Miller had some really great songs over the years, which were humorous, yet had a between the lines kind of message. He also had some more serious ones, too.

“Chug-a-Lug”, by Roger Miller, is a single from his album, “Roger and Out”. It was written by Roger Miller, and was released in 1964, and is on the Mercury label.

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
Make you want to holler hi-de-ho
Burns your tummy, don’tcha know?
Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug

Grape wine in a Mason jar
Homemade and brought to school
By a friend of mine ‘n’ after class
Me and him and this other fool decide

That we’ll drink up what’s left
Chug-a-lug, so we helped ourself
First time for everything
Mm, my ears still ring

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
Make you want to holler hi-de-ho
Burns your tummy, don’tcha know?
Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug

4-H and FFA
On a field trip to the farm
Me ‘n’ a friend sneak off behind
This big old barn where we uncovered

A covered-up moonshine still
And we thought we’d drink our fill
And I swallered it with a smile
Blll-bbb, I run ten mile

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
Make you want to holler hi-de-ho
Burns your tummy, don’tcha know?
Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug

Jukebox ‘n’ sawdust floor
Sumpin’ like I ain’t never seen
And I’m just goin’ on fifteen
But with the help of my finaglin’ uncle

I get snuck in
For my first taste of sin
I said, “Lemme have a big old sip”
Blll-bbb, I done a double back flip

Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug
Make you want to holler hi-de-ho
Burns your tummy, don’tcha know?
Chug-a-lug, chug-a-lug

This is one I think is pretty unusual. We used to hear it all the time, and I do like it. The video gets me laughing, too. 🙂

This is the final day of the music challenge. It’s been fun! To round out the 5 days, I leave you with one more novelty song. It’s called “Purple People Eater”. The song was written and sung by Sheb Wolley. It was released in 1958, on the MGM label.

Here’s the quote:

I said Mr. Purple People Eater, what’s your line
He said it’s eatin’ purple people and it sure is fine
But that’s not the reason that I came to land
I wanna get a job in a rock and roll band

Today it’s time for a toe-tappin’, sing-along song, “The Witch Doctor”.  I’ve liked this song for years, and can’t help but sing the funny words.

It was released in 1958, on the album, “The Alvin Show”, and was written by Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. It is a novelty song, and is on the Liberty label. David Seville sings it (along with the Chipmunks) 🙂

Here’s the quote:

I told the witch doctor
I was in love with you
I told the witch doctor
I was in love with you
And then the witch doctor
He told me what to do

He said that
Ooo eee,ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang
Ooo eee ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla bing bang…

This is my original 45 of this song! 🙂
