51 Weeks: 51 Songs From The Past: Week 19: Sylvester – You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)

Thanks for hosting this fun challenge, Hugh!

It’s time for another song from the past. 🙂

I’m going way back with these two. It would be surprising if anyone has ever heard them, but I always liked them. They remind me of the type of songs you’d hear in the era of the TV show, “Happy Days”.

I first heard these two songs, when I was just about 8 years old. I had received a portable record player for Christmas, I think that’s when, and a bunch of 45-rpm records. It was from my mom and dad. I have no idea why they’d chosen this record, or any of the others I had, as none of them were children’s type of records. Anyway, I liked them all, and played them a lot. Seems the lyrics were way too old for a kid to hear, especially back in the 50s, but who knows…that’s what I had, and my sister, cousin, and I liked them. We probably didn’t even pay attention to the lyrics, or even would have known what it was all about! 🙂

Anyway, here’s the songs, and a photo of the actual record I’ve had all these years. (one record both sides shown)

The songs, “Fire Engine Baby”, and “Flirtie Gertie”, by the Jiv-a-Tones, was a single on the Feldsted label. They were released in 1958. The Jiv-a-Tones, were formed by Ric Cartey, and the members included, Guy Barber, Dean Stevens, Bill Holden, and Charlie Broome. Vocals on “Fire Engine Baby” by Bill Holden. Vocals on “Flirtie Gertie” by Dean Stevens.

Have a listen…see what you think of them! 🙂

Thanks for visiting! Peace }i{
