Today’s JJJ prompt world is ‘mongrel’, and is suggested by Geoff. Thanks! 🙂

Mongrel, I think, mainly pertains to members of the dog family of animals. I suppose it could be about others, but today I mention only dogs. This only means a dog of mixed breeding. Other words to describe a mongrel would be…

  • mixed breed
  • cur
  • mutt
  • heinze 57
  • feist
  • cross breed

We only have cats now, but in the past we have had all sorts of dogs, from the mongrel type, to pure-bred. I loved them all, as they all had such different personalities. They were part of the family.

Here’s some photos of our dogs. 🙂

This photo is of our Christmas tree from many years ago. It’s pretty, isn’t it? Now, look close. See that red ribbon going horizontal in front of the tree? That is the top of a fence…a fence made of chicken wire. Yep, we had to fence in our tree that year. We had some dogs…they liked to get into all the presents under the tree. They chewed up a lot of them. That’s why I made a fence to keep them out. We had the chicken wire on hand, because we used it for around our vegetable garden the past summer, so that was good.

The chicken wire fence wasn’t all bad. I hung some ornaments from it, and it made for some fun conversations. I know we will always remember this Christmas. 🙂

NO SILENCE HERE – for DAILY POST

NO SILENCE HERE – for DAILY POST

https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/silence/

GE DIGITAL CAMERA

Today’s prompt word for Daily Post is silence.

There has been no silence around here today.

Had to call a plumber to unclog the drain pipes.

He climbed on the roof, and his cable made lots of noise.

The cats were scared and ran under the bed.

All morning one cat has been meowing for something.

He has been fed, so he should settle down.

Now, there is yard work going on. Weed-eater is noisy.

Dogs next door are barking at it.

TV continues on blaring out a show nobody is watching.

I should turn it off, or put it on mute.

Where is the silence today?

Not here!

Q – What did you collect when you were a kid? Do you know what prompted the desire to collect these things?

I remember going to the dime store, called T.G.&Y, here in town. I’d spend my little bit of money on little glass figurines. Pretty much every one would be either a horse or a dog one. They were cheap, but so cute. I had lots of them. I’m pretty sure I still have some, but they are packed away in the shed. I really want to go out there and prowl around and find them, but last time I was out there it was dusty and buggy. Maybe another time I’ll go see.

Here’s a picture of the kind of figurine I’m talking about. This one was from a yard sale not too long ago. My daughter got it for me. We used to call them ‘what-nots’. I think you could call them knick-knacks, or tchotchkes.

What started me collecting these was probably my obsession with anything to do with horses and dogs. Later on I had one of those little decorative shelf things you put tiny figures in the cubby-holes. I have a lot of those, too (in the shed) 🙂

Day # 2

Q – What is the first video game that you remember playing? Were you good at it? What game system did you play it on, or was it in an arcade?

My girls had the original Mario Brothers game on a Nintendo game system. They got really good at playing it, and let me try it once…yeah, once. haha…I had no idea what I was supposed to do with the control thing, and it made no sense to me at all. So my game playing lasted about a minute or so? I never played any other game until we got our computer and I found out there were online games to be downloaded and played right on the screen. So, I started out on those Mahjong games, which are slow and easy to do. Now, I play several of the Match 3 games. That’s it.

One Halloween we decided to make costumes for the dogs. It was suggested they should be the Mario Brothers. I planned and cut the felt, and sewed the names on, and we dressed the dogs up. They didn’t mind at all. We made costumes for all the dogs, and cats for years, and have photos of them all. Even the cats didn’t mind us dressing them up. At least they didn’t put up a fuss about it, while we took their picture. Then, we took off the costumes. I still have them all. 🙂 Here’s Bud, and Weasel (sadly not with us any more) as Mario and Luigi.

Share Your World – 2016 Week 24

Q1 … What is the most fun thing you did in school?

Well, that was a long time ago! Let me see… meeting my future husband, helping decorate for the Sr. Carnival, Kid’s Day (where we could dress silly), lunch (the cafeteria had the best cinnamon rolls), going on a trip out of town, to watch our football team win state, working on the yearbook, and ghost hunting (the high school was/is haunted)

Q2 … What is your favorite type of dog? Can be anything, from a specific breed, a stuffed animal, or character in a movie.

My favorite type of dog ever, is the Basset Hound. Our first one was named Bridget. She was on TV, too, for a minute or so. (I should tell that story sometime). Our second Basset Hound was AKC registered. Her full name was Maggie Odieo Cissybeaux Bonz. She had puppies, and Ginger was one we kept, which was our 3rd Basset Hound (not counting all the puppies, and there were a bunch.) Here’s some pictures of Maggie, Ginger, and a couple of the puppies. 🙂

Q3 … You are invited to a party that will be attended by many fascinating people you never met. Would you attend this party if you were to go by yourself?

No. I don’t do parties. I’d make some excuse to get out of going.

Q4 … Complete this sentence… “Never in my life have I…”

Never in my life have I ever done these things.

Jump out of an airplane (oh hell no), Bungee jump (never!), deep sea dive (there’s fish in there!), enjoy applesauce (medicine sauce to me – yuck), sang in tune (wish I could) … I’m sure there’s lots more, just can’t think of any more right now.
