Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “tree.” Use the word “tree” or write about a tree. Any kind of tree. Enjoy!

What’s to say about a tree? I like trees a lot. There are so many kinds and all are beautiful. We have one tree in our yard. It’s a fruitless Mulberry. It has large green leaves in the summer, and they turn a pretty yellow in the fall.

That’s what they are looking like right now, yellow. There’s still a lot of leaves on the branches, but lots have been falling, and with the crazy wind yesterday (67 mph gusts) a lot got blown off into the yard.

We had several elm trees in the yard of the house I grew up in. They were very tall. I’d climb up in the branches with a book to read lots of times. They are still there after all these years, and through lots of storms where the branches were broken. Out front we also had a mimosa with pink flowers, and a couple of big evergreen trees.

The tallest trees I’ve ever seen were the ones in the east TX forest, and the New Mexico forest. Those were pines I think.

As for Christmas trees, we used to get a real one. They smelled so good. Later we had a fairly large fake tree. Then later on we had a smaller fake tree we’d set on a table. We named him Charlie, and had this one many years. Then it got pretty raggedy looking after the cats kept chewing the branches.

Now we just have a teeny tiny fake one from the dollar store we set on a shelf. It goes in the closet later on, and keeps the little decorations on it. It only has a very few, plus my ghost lights. I’m not sure I’ll even put it out this year, though.

And that’s all I have to say about trees today.

This beautiful sparkly tree was in Columbia Missouri.

This beautiful tree was in the Texas Capitol Building in Austin, TX. We visited there one year around Christmas time.
