Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Clean/Dirty Chicken

Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Clean/Dirty Chicken

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS July 27/19

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “clean/dirty.” Use one, use both, use ’em any way you like. Enjoy!

Today, Linda has asked us to write something about clean/dirty. Thanks, Linda! 🙂

First thing that came to mind for me was my dishwasher magnet. It’s a wooden chicken. It is a white chicken (red comb/yellow beak) with a blue shawl. Dangling on a chain below is a blue heart. One side of the heart says clean, the other side says dirty.

It’s supposed to indicate if the dishes in the dishwasher have been cleaned already, or not.

I don’t know if I’ve ever used it for that. I just think it’s a cute magnet on my refrigerator. In fact, we don’t even use a dishwasher. We’ve had them, and one is still in place, but it quit working years ago. Even when it was working, it didn’t work very well.

The dishes that were supposed to be cleaned just weren’t clean, so I’d have to do them over anyway. What’s the time saver here? None at all.

I don’t mind washing dishes by hand, and have done so most of the time. It’s the one household job/chore that I do like. I like the hot water, the soap bubbles, and the fun little scrubbies you can use, too.

Even when I was a kid, I’d ask to do the dishes at home, and when we ate at someone else’s house I’d do their dishes, too.  I just like doing dishes. I’d rather do a thousand dishes than do one tiny thing with the floors. I hate doing floors. Give me some dishes to wash, and I’ll get them clean every time. 🙂

Back Where I Come From – Day 22

Back Where I Come From – Day 22

Thanks for all the questions this month, Suzanne!

Question # 22

22. Did you have chores when you were a kid? What were they? What did you think about having chores? What was your least favorite chore? Is it still?

My Answer:

I don’t really remember doing many chores back then. I do remember one, which I didn’t like at all. That was floors. We had linoleum in the kitchen, and hardwood in the living room. My mom wanted those floors waxed, and when my sister and I were old enough we had to help do this. First on hands & knees, then we had an electric buffer machine. That machine was crazy! We couldn’t handle it very well, so it went all over the place with us trying to hang on. I loved the smell of the Johnson’s Floor Wax, but sure didn’t enjoy the chore of doing the floors. I still hate doing floors, and do it as little as possible, and never have waxed anything again.

I think we probably were supposed to keep our bedrooms uncluttered, but it wasn’t strictly adhered to. I was a slob then, and still am.

Now, I did love doing the dishes! It wasn’t an every day thing, but I liked doing them. You have your nice hot, soapy water, some neat washing brushes, sponges, and things, and I’d make a game out of it. I still like doing dishes by hand. We’ve had dishwashers before, but I don’t much like them. We haven’t had a working one in years, and I don’t miss it. I’ve joked with people that I’d do all their dishes, thousands of them, if they’d come do my floors once in awhile. I didn’t get anyone to agree to it, though.

I think we may have had to dust the furniture sometimes. We had a big old-fashioned, upright, piano (that nobody knew how to play), and I remember dusting it with furniture polish.

That’s all the chores I remember. 🙂
