Golden 50th Wedding Anniversary

Golden 50th Wedding Anniversary

***

Today, December 23, 2019, is our 50th wedding anniversary.

Hard to believe it’s been that long, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

***

Remembrances of my wedding:

  • My chosen color theme was mint green
  • My Mom sewed my wedding dress (I picked the pattern, but made some changes)
  • I only had $100 to spend for the whole thing
  • My favorite flower is the chrysanthemum – I had small white ones for my bouquet
  • I wanted some champagne but wasn’t old enough to buy it, so on the actual wedding day I took my Grandma with me. My car broke down on the way, and we had to walk across a cotton field to find a phone to call for help.
  • We also had punch to drink – lime sherbet and 7UP
  • I made my own candles to use
  • My Uncle took a few Polaroid photos & my Aunt sang a song

These two charms are to commemorate our engagement and wedding. The one with wedding bells is engraved on the back with the date we got married.

This song means a lot to me, because we called it ‘Our Song’, since we met, dated, and got married. In fact, we played the song on a record player as we marched down the aisle together at our wedding. It may have seemed strange for wedding music, but it was 1969, and we did things our way. I guess we did something right, as we’ve been married 50 years. 🙂

~partial lyrics~

You know I love you, I always will
My mind’s made up by the way that I feel
There’s no beginning, there’ll be no end
‘Cause on my love you can depend

I also still have the original 45 rpm record we played at our wedding.

My daughter sent us the card on the left, and my husband gave me the card in front, and the beautiful Poinsettia plant today.

Charms # 9

Taking a look back at my charm bracelet, to remember what all the little charms were, and for what memories they bring.

***

To finish up this series of charms, I’m just showing the last ones all at once. It would take so long to do each charm individually, and I wouldn’t want you to get bored with it all. You can enlarge to see better by clicking photo. 🙂

***

The first photo is a charm bracelet my daughter gave me quite a few years ago. She gifted me all the charms, one at a time, for special occasions. The bracelet, and all the charms, are  from the wonderful jeweler James Avery. There are 11 charms attached and one that hasn’t been added on yet. They are:

  • 2 people (I think for my daughter and me)
  • Texas with a star
  • Cat
  • Letter F (for my grand-son’s name)
  • Penguin
  • Bell
  • Horse
  • Snowflake
  • Hummingbird
  • Heart
  • Ladybug
  • Orange bead

The second photo is one bracelet I made myself. It has little charms I liked on a chain I got at the craft store. They are:

  • Tiger
  • Imagine amulet
  • Dog
  • Clock
  • Cat
  • Cat

The third photo is of a long necklace I made, using a chain from the craft store, and lots of charm doo-dads from things I found around here. I wanted it to be clunky and junky, you know, the more the better. I’ve worn this at times, when we go someplace, and get lots of comments and interest in it. To mention a few of the items, there are:

  • Parts of earrings
  • Photo key chain bit
  • Engraved shamrock I got at the fair when I was a kid
  • Diary keys
  • Safety pin with part of my name in beads
  • Good luck penny I wire wrapped
  • Parts of other necklaces & bracelets

That’s about all for the charms, unless I forgot some. Hope you’ve enjoyed seeing them. 🙂

Charms # 1

I’ve had this charm bracelet since I was about 16, or maybe earlier. I can’t remember exactly when I got it, but I’m pretty sure it was a birthday present from my parents.  There are a lot of charms that have been added over the years, for all kinds of occasions and memories. I’m not sure of the order of when I got the charms, but pretty close.

For a record of what they all are, for myself to remember, I thought I’d write a little about each one. Hope y’all enjoy seeing what’s on there, too. 🙂

These are the first two charms I got. There is the front and back of the first one (my name is engraved on the back). The next is the one I got for my 16th birthday.

It’s a little bit hard to get each one isolated, so I tried covering up all but the featured one. The lighting isn’t very good, but that’s all I can do. 🙂

From what I’ve been reading about charm bracelets, I’ve learned they have been worn throughout the ages. First ones were made of shells, or wood, or stones, and lots were used as a good luck charm, and to ward off evil.

People still wear them for any number of reasons, such as a hobby of collecting the charms, to remember special occasions, or even have themed ones for a special interest.

I’m glad I have this one, and also another one I will showcase later.

Do you have a charm bracelet, or have worn one in the past?

Today’s Daily Post word prompt is ‘lollipop’. That’s a cute word for a sweet little candy! I do like lollipops, and buy them every so often. My favorite used to be the ones called, “Charms”. I’m not sure you can find them now, or at least the last ones I found, just weren’t like the ones I’d get a long time ago. They usually had 2 flavors in one pop, I think a sweet part and a sour part. The one I liked was the lemon/lime one.

I do like all kinds of them, though. Tootsie Roll Pops, Dum-Dums,  Chupa-Chups, and even those little ‘safety suckers’, that had a paper loop for a handle. I guess that was for kids. It didn’t have a hard stick, which may be dangerous for a little kid. Anyway, they tasted good.

Wouldn’t you know, when this prompt came up today, that I’d not have even one lollipop in the house to take a photo of! I already ate them all! 🙂

I’ve heard several songs about lollipops, as I’ve read some posts today. I haven’t heard this one from anyone yet, but it was the first one that came to mind for me, today. Enjoy! …

“My Boy Lollipop”, by Millie Small, was released in 1964, from the album of the same name. It was written by Robert Spencer, and Johnny Roberts, and is on the Fontana, Island, Smash labels.

“PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF”

Hi there!

I am the nice lady’s charm bracelet. I was a gift to her on her 16th birthday, so I’ve known her for a long time. I’m the best, because I have the most charms to show. On lots of occasions, I was presented with a new charm to remember that day in history. If you have a long time, I can tell you a story about each individual charm. They all have a special meaning to the nice lady.

Hellooo! Nice to meet you. I am the nice lady’s newest charm bracelet. I haven’t been in her possession as long as my ‘ahem’ friend up there, but I’m special, too! I was given to her either for a Christmas present or a birthday present, several years ago, by her daughter. Her daughter buys the charms to add to my links, and they are very cute. They also come from a famous jewelry designer, called James Avery. The nice lady wears me on special occasions.

There really is no contest…the nice lady loves both her charm bracelets for different reasons, and treasures the memories each charm brings. 🙂
