Poke – Just Jot It January # 3

Poke – Just Jot It January # 3

Daily Prompt – JusJoJan the 3rd, 2020

***

Your prompt for JusJoJan January 3rd, 2020, is “poke.” Find a word with “poke” in it or use the word “poke” any way you’d like. Enjoy!

***

Well, the prompt word for today is ‘poke’.

I have very few ideas of what to say about that word.

I don’t like to be poked.

FB used to have a thing where you could ‘poke’ a friend to …what? … to say hey? I don’t know what that was all about, but I got a few pokes.

My grand-kids love Pokemon. They know all about the characters, and have the collector cards, and little figures to play with. They both can carry on long conversations about Pokemon, but it’s all confusing to me.

I’ve played the card games called Poker. It’s fun, and so many different games with all different names of them and ways to play the cards.

I like the song by Lady GaGa called Poker Face.

And, that’s all I have for the word ‘poke’ today.

Golden 50th Wedding Anniversary

Golden 50th Wedding Anniversary

***

Today, December 23, 2019, is our 50th wedding anniversary.

Hard to believe it’s been that long, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

***

Remembrances of my wedding:

  • My chosen color theme was mint green
  • My Mom sewed my wedding dress (I picked the pattern, but made some changes)
  • I only had $100 to spend for the whole thing
  • My favorite flower is the chrysanthemum – I had small white ones for my bouquet
  • I wanted some champagne but wasn’t old enough to buy it, so on the actual wedding day I took my Grandma with me. My car broke down on the way, and we had to walk across a cotton field to find a phone to call for help.
  • We also had punch to drink – lime sherbet and 7UP
  • I made my own candles to use
  • My Uncle took a few Polaroid photos & my Aunt sang a song

These two charms are to commemorate our engagement and wedding. The one with wedding bells is engraved on the back with the date we got married.

This song means a lot to me, because we called it ‘Our Song’, since we met, dated, and got married. In fact, we played the song on a record player as we marched down the aisle together at our wedding. It may have seemed strange for wedding music, but it was 1969, and we did things our way. I guess we did something right, as we’ve been married 50 years. 🙂

~partial lyrics~

You know I love you, I always will
My mind’s made up by the way that I feel
There’s no beginning, there’ll be no end
‘Cause on my love you can depend

I also still have the original 45 rpm record we played at our wedding.

My daughter sent us the card on the left, and my husband gave me the card in front, and the beautiful Poinsettia plant today.

This time for SYW, Melanie has given us some questions to answer about Christmas. Thanks, Melanie

  • Do you enjoy receiving Christmas cards through snail mail?

Yes, I love getting Christmas cards in the mail every year. I like sending them, too.

  • Do you like the taste and/or smell of peppermint?

Peppermint is one of my very favorite tastes and smells. For some years I’d receive as a gift one of those huge peppermint logs. That would last a long time, as I chipped pieces off a little at a time.

  • What is your least favorite holiday side dish?

Least favorite holiday side dish … Can’t really think of anything I don’t like. I always take a sample of everything and enjoy it all.

  • What is the coolest (best) gift you ever gave someone?

I have no idea if what I’ve given was thought to be ‘cool’. You’d have to ask them if they liked it. I can’t even remember what I gave them. Oh, wait … several times I gave my husband a guitar for Christmas. I think he liked them, except one time when I didn’t know the difference – I gave him a left handed guitar!

  • Bonus question because I thought it was nifty:   What is a Christmas song that makes you cringe?   (Please insert the word “Holiday” for Christmas if Christmas isn’t your thing or bothers you or something)
  • A song I don’t like … hmmm … I like most of them, but don’t want to hear them until right before Christmas (do not play them at Halloween!) I’d say that Mariah Carey song, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” … yeah, can’t stand that one – sorry if you do like it.

GRATITUDE:

Please share some of your favorite music around this time of year.

***

Here’s a favorite one to hear at Christmas time. 🙂

I love the words, the music, the meaning, and hopefulness, and that it encourages people to pray for peace for everyone.

IS IT IN the CARDS?

Standard

IS IT IN the CARDS?

I’ve heard the expression, ‘it’s in the cards’, before, but what does that even mean? Does it mean it is fate, luck, or a cosmic plan? I don’t know about all that, but it’s fun to think about.

I could go on speculating about these kind of deep subjects, but maybe another day. This time I have some other kinds of cards in mind.

I have a lot of cards. I never set out to have any kind of collection of them, but it sort of turned out that way. Over the years, I’ve saved most of my old library cards, and video rental cards. Every where we lived, different states, cities, towns, and countries, I’ve always found the library there. It’s always one of the first things to do, after getting settled in our new place. Some were large, some were small, some were on the Army/Naval/Air Force bases, some were on university campuses, and some were even book mobiles. It didn’t matter, as I can find books to check out any place.

The same goes for those video rental stores. I’d sign up for a card at all kinds of places, from the big name ones, to drugstores, furniture stores, grocery stores, and wherever they rented them. Big ones small ones, I didn’t care.

Anyway, I saved most of these cards. I don’t know what happened to many more…maybe we had to turn them in when we moved, or they got lost. So, I have cards. Here’s some photos of them I’ve put in a scrapbook. (excuse the marked out parts – you know how it is) 🙂

Did you have a lot of library or video cards?
