Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Blue

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Sept. 14/19

***

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “blue.” Talk about the first blue object you see when you sit down to write your post. Have fun!

***

For our SOCS, Linda has asked us to talk about whatever blue thing we see when we are writing our post. Thanks, Linda!

See more entries, and details of how to join in this fun weekly challenge at the above link.

The first thing I see in the early mornings when I come to the computer is the blue lights on these black computer what-cha-ma-call-its. I have no idea what it’s for, but if one of them goes out, it means my computer won’t come on. Disaster! haha!

The one blue light to the right is for the speaker.

Then I open up my blog home page, and it is a blue background picture. It has an eye and a butterfly. I like it, and haven’t changed it in years. The first one I had was pink and black. I didn’t have that one very long.

I don’t have much that is blue right here that I see. Sometimes my little post it notes pad is blue, but sometimes it’s another color.

I have a real blue jay’s feather higher up in a little wall basket. We found it in the yard.

There are my cross collection hanging on the wall in front of my desk. Some of those have blue in them.

That’s about it.

Wishing you a fun weekend! 🙂

Little Devils

***

Here’s a short story I wrote way back in 2013, which pretty much no one saw.

***

LITTLE DEVILS

They skittered away from me. They always do, the little devils. They are fast. I sometimes catch one, but it’s not easy.

Laughing at my attempts, they form little armies, who taunt me. I curse at them. I get angry, and stomp my feet, then find another weapon in my arsenal, hoping to one day find one that will annihilate them for good.

I’ve learned that they are tricksters. They have many hiding places, and love to skitter out at me…a surprise attack, only to disappear again. To look at them, you’d think they are innocent of any evil intent towards me. I know better, now. I’ve come to believe they have some kind of rudimentary intelligence that aids them in their mission…to drive me crazy.

The ones I’ve captured are disposed of immediately, but it hardly matters. Multiplication of their species is rapid, and they don’t mourn the loss of their comrades.

Where do they come from? How do they get in here? I don’t invite them in; I’d never do that. They are sneaky. If ever you look into the dark recesses of this place, you may catch sight of a few, caught congregating…formulating their plans. I shake my head, knowing they’ll be gone, if I run to get my chosen weapon.

They’ve been around for centuries…their kind. I’m sure of it. They are a primitive sort, yet hardy…impossible to completely wipe off the face of the Earth. I’ve dissected a few, those I’ve been lucky enough to catch. They made no sound, as I pulled and prodded them apart…even as they crumbled into nothingness. I was surprised. Their bodies seemed to disintegrate…a bit of hair, a bit of fluff…as I made sure they returned to the dirty little hell they came from. I shudder at the remembrance of it. I don’t pull them apart for curiosity’s sake, anymore.

I chased one the other day, though. It was skittering across the floor…a tiny one this time. From the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of movement. I was lucky, as I had my weapon already in my hand. I smashed the bloodless bugger flat. The only witnesses were the others of it’s kind…already trapped, and on their way to their doom.

Suddenly, I sensed a slight movement, behind me. Whirling around, I dangled my latest victim in front of them. “Hah! Look at your future, you devils,” I sneered. Flinging the deceased into their midst, I scooped up the whole lot of them, before they could react. Their execution was at hand.

As today’s invaders were being disposed of, I heard their final, collective thought…”We’ll be back…”

I sighed, shaking my head, and thought…“Waging war on those little devil dust bunnies is a never ending job.”

Are you a traveler or a homebody?

I used to travel a lot. We were/are retired now, Army family, so we moved around a lot. We traveled  and lived for awhile in Germany, and Japan, and several U.S. states and cities. We traveled to Mexico for a short sightseeing visit. It was fun back then, but we haven’t done much since my husband’s retirement from the service. We go to Missouri to visit our daughter and family, and we’ve been to Las Vegas NV, and I’ve been to New Mexico since then. I wouldn’t mind taking short trips here and there, but I really am not fond of motel rooms. I’d rather stay home with my own bed, many pillows, my cats, and normal routine, now.

What kind of TV commercial would you like to make? Describe it.

I’d do away with all TV commercials. I hate them all. There are too many, they last too long, and most are so bad, I have to block my ears, or mute the TV, and scream “I hate commercials!” Yep, I do that a lot. So, I wouldn’t want to make one, because they are annoying and I’d think most people don’t like them. We have a thing called DVR or TiVo to record programs…we can fast forward and skip all ads.

Describe yourself in a word that starts with the first letter of your name.

Blogger 🙂

List some fun things for a rainy day.

Blog my posts, write all kinds of things, play computer games, read a book, do something crafty, like scrap booking, go outside and dance in the rain, since we don’t usually get enough. (notice I didn’t say watch TV…I hardly do that any more, and I hate the commercials)

Bonus question: What are you grateful for this past week, and what are you looking forward to in the weeks coming up?

I am grateful for the past several years of knowing and being ‘soul sistah’ friends with a wonderful, caring, and loving woman. We never met in person, just did Skype and telephone, and we met online, finding out we were both interested in the same things. You ever have someone you just meet, and know without a doubt that you’ve known them before, maybe in a past life? That was us. …She passed away yesterday 11/13/16, and I miss her terribly. I keep crying every little bit. Don’t ever doubt you can make a deep, and long lasting friendship with a person you meet online. RIP Soul Sistah ❤

“PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF”

Hi there! I was created by the nice lady. She calls me a purse, but I’m confused. I am a decorated wooden box, with a handle. She’s never used me as a purse, or hand bag, or anything, really. I could be a treasure box, or a jewelry box, or a memento box, but so far I’ve just sat here looking cute.

The nice lady glued all kinds of things onto me. Mostly the items are things to do with all the pets she’s had over the years. There are photos of the cats and dogs, a parakeet, and gerbils, and there is a photo of her, when she was a little girl. She called herself ‘Critter Girl’.  There is also beads, a dog tag, and chain. Inside you can look at yourself in a little round mirror. The handle beads spell out ‘Friends’, which is a nice touch, as all her pets were her friends.

Several more box/purses were made to give to her daughters and sister, with photos of memories of them on the sides and back. The nice lady has two more blank boxes she could decorate someday. 🙂

SHARE YOUR WORLD

SHARE YOUR WORLDsywbanner

I ran across this interesting blog the other day. The blogger puts different challenges on for people to participate in. The one I wanted to do today is called “Share Your World” and can be found at http://ceenphotography.com/share-your-world/ … Every week there is a new prompt. This is the first one I will be doing. The prompt had a list of several topics to choose from…you could pick four, and then list four things related to these that you like. It is just a fun way to get to know more about each other, and find some new blogs to read. I like that idea. 🙂

Here are the topics I chose to respond to …

FAVORITE SONGS

I love all kinds of music, so it was hard to choose only four, but for today I’ll say…

Amie by Pure Prairie League

High Enough by Damn Yankees

Lola Montez by Volbeat

Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd

Then I listen to the Eagles songs pretty much every day, because…the Eagles! Also, I like the Steve Miller Band songs.

THINGS YOU’D LIKE TO HAVE IN YOUR HOUSE

I’d love to have a whole wall done in chalkboard…that way I could write and draw on the wall, and change it whenever I wanted. (I have a thing since I was a kid about writing on the walls…actually got in trouble for it 😉

An indoor atrium/patio with lots of plants and tropical things.

One of those clay type fire pit that you burn wood in…called a chiminea.

I would love to have a huge covered, wooden porch, with an old fashioned porch swing.

***

THINGS THAT MAKE YOU LAUGH

My grandchildren. They are so funny in the things they say and do.

My cats…always cute and silly.

Typos and bloopers in newspapers, or on signs…they crack me up every time.

“I Love Lucy” television show. No matter how many times I’ve seen them, I always laugh.

***

FAVORITE FLOWER

Chrysanthemum

Larkspur

Honeysuckle

Sunflower

***

So, that’s the list I did. Hope you enjoyed reading some of the things I like!
