My cousin, Mike, raises exotic chickens.

The first photo shows a large black & white chicken with an elaborate all black feathery head-dress. He calls this one Silver. I think it is a Polish Silver breed of chicken.

The next photo is Mike holding Silver.

The next photo is another kind of chicken he is holding. He calls this one Houdie. Could be because it is a breed of chicken called Houdan.  It is a large black and white chicken, with it’s head-dress of feathers of black & white.

Very cool chickens! 🙂

When we visited the Kansas City Zoo, we saw a lot of different kinds of birds. Here’s a few:

  • An Ostrich getting a drink of water
  • A Lorikeet
  • A Lorikeet  perching on our arm (they also perched on our heads and shoulders)
  • A Penguin

And this is just a black bird on the back porch. I think it is a grackle.

This looks to be a Muscovy Duck. It is mostly black with a few white spots. He has a distinctive red area around the eyes. This one was at a local park.

This one is a Canada Goose. We have thousands that winter over at our lake by the house. I always love seeing them.

Here are some more ducks:

  • A stone duck head
  • A white duck decoy
  • A big white duck
  • Yellow duck salt & pepper shakers

I think this is some kind of heron. We see them at the lake by our house all the time, but this one flew over the houses that day.

This is a white stork we saw at the Kansas City Missouri Zoo last year. She is white, with some black along the wing edges, and red around the eyes. Her beak is orange. There is also a baby stork with the large stork. They are getting a drink from a black bowl.

This week Lisa has asked for birds with yellow feathers. Thanks, Lisa!

As far as I know we don’t have actual birds with yellow feathers around here. I’ve never seen one. So, here are some funny ones:

  • Pet store sign – yellow & green parakeet says ‘Will chirp for seed’
  • A real chicken – sort of yellow & orange feathers (my cousin’s chicken)
  • Yellow canary painted rock my grand-son sent me
  • My fuzzy yellow chicken toys

We see little robins around here a lot. This one was hanging around the front yard one day. It was going from the tree to the ground and sidewalk, and eating the cat food kibbles we leave for the cats. For some reason, birds just love cat food. 🙂

Photos show a red breasted robin on the ground, and in the tree.
