Cover Band

Cover Band

This is a short fiction story I wrote back in 2016 using this photo prompt, which was found on Pixabay.

It was all the guy’s dreams to be the next guitar god, the next rock star, the next featured cover on the Rolling Stone Magazine. I was no exception. I wanted the fame and fortune, and yes, the girls.

I saved my allowance money, bought a second-hand guitar, and practiced. That got me invited to be a member of a hopeful garage band. We had a few gigs around town, had some local fame, but then it died down; we went our separate ways.

In college, I majored in art and music. The entertainment industry still called to me. I wonder what happened to those guys from high school? Did they follow their dreams, become famous? I don’t know, but I’ve met thousands of rock stars who did find that elusive dream.

I enjoy what I do. I may have never become famous for my guitar or voice, but my talents are in demand now. I’m famous in my own way. I design album covers. The burning guitar is my latest piece.

Interview: Artist With a Message – Jennifer R. Cook

Interview: Artist With a Message: Jennifer R. Cook

I’ve been acquainted with Jennifer R. Cook for several years, and first became aware of her beautiful artwork through her postings on Face Book. She publishes a new piece every day, through her series called, “What My Coffee Says to Me”. Most all of her illustrations are of animals of all kinds, and promotes mental health with her uplifting messages that are included.

Please join me in welcoming Jennifer R. Cook.

Thank you, Jennifer, for agreeing to this short interview!

Have you always known you wanted to be an artist?

Yes, from a very young age I wanted to be an artist or a mad scientist. In reality, the two are intertwined. I am a creative adventurer with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, double major Graphic Design and Illustration. For the past 30 years as a passionate creator using my expertise as a strategic graphic designer to create logos, identity design, branding, packaging, children’s books and more, including custom illustrations for social media for businesses all over the world.

For fun, “What My Coffee Says to Me”, an illustrated series, was born on January 1, 2012, created to boost everyone’s mental health. Fast forward eight years and it is still going. Thank you for that. 🙂

What medium do you use most?

Everything and nothing. I am a creative explorer, and sometimes nothing is the medium for inspiration…well, that and I love playing just for the fun of it. I do enjoy dip ink on parchment – when it dries you can feel the texture of the ink on the surface of the paper.

Where do you get your ideas for a new piece?

Life! Inspiration is everywhere and in everything … meditation, walking in the park, laughing, hearing sounds, being silent and still … always open to receiving ideas from the creator!

After all, ideas are abundant and beautiful in the universe; they float everywhere all the time, waiting to be pulled into creation! I tap into whatever comes my way every day, lead a conscious life, and you can too.

In your own words, what would you like people to know about your artwork and your message?

Everything I create, whether it’s strategic graphic design, illustration for business, or What My Coffee Says to Me series for fun, I create for MY highest good. I infuse everything I create with love, self love. We are perfect creators of our lives. Remember that! You can create your life the way you want. Please LOVE who you are, be inspired through your self love – it will empower you to move mountains for your highest good! You have the power…we all do!
