Unusual … that’s what I like.

I really enjoy seeing odd and strange things. Sometimes they make you think, sometimes they are just funny.

My daughter and her family recently visited some interesting and unusual sites in New Mexico. She sent me a couple of photos that were pretty unusual.

There were these huge hands out in the middle of nowhere. Giant statue things reaching for the sky. I don’t know what they were made of – maybe concrete?

Then there was this unusual scene of aliens in a cave. It’s fun to look at.

You can click the photos to enlarge.

A to Z 2022 – TV Theme Songs – Roswell

#AtoZChallenge 2022 tribute badge

My theme for this year will actually be a theme! It will be …

  • TV Theme Songs

I’ll be showing short videos of the opening theme songs of old TV shows, and saying a few words about them. They are all shows I’ve watched in the past and enjoyed. Maybe you’ve seen some of them too, and will enjoy this look back at some favorites.

***

This one I chose today, is from the TV show, “Roswell”. It’s one of my favorite shows. It ran from 1999 to 2002. I bought all three seasons of the DVDs, and have watched them many times.

The story is set in modern times in Roswell, New Mexico. It’s focus is the teenagers in high school, and the ups and downs of their relationships with boyfriends and girlfriends.

However, three new students in their high school are a bit different. They are aliens from another planet. They look normal, but have things about them that make people wonder what and who they really are. They are friends with a few other regular students, and let them know their secret. A lot of the episodes are of them figuring out how to evade the government, and scientists who suspect them of being aliens, but want to do experiments, if they ever catch them.

There is a lot of drama, and also a lot of humor in these stories. I love everything about this TV series.  Hope you can watch it one day. 🙂

The theme song for all three seasons is, “Here With Me”, by Dido. It is a haunting kind of tune, especially paired with the theme of the TV show.

I like this song a lot, and I hear it on the oldies radio all the time. I really had no idea what they were singing about – space travel to Venus after Earth has become unlivable, until I read the lyrics this morning.

***

From a Wiki article:

This song’s lyric is both apocalyptic and optimistic, describing a trip into Space (heading for Venus) and leaving Earth behind.

“The Final Countdown” became an instant success on the charts worldwide upon its release, reaching number one in 25 countries (including the UK, where it spent two weeks at the top and is Europe’s only Top 10 hit to date),[16] and is widely regarded as the band’s most popular and recognizable song. The single reached number 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and is the most successful song from the album on the Album Rock Tracks chart, peaking at number 18 (and charting for 20 weeks).[17]

The song is also the band’s highest charting single in Australia and Canada, peaking at number 2 and number 5 respectively.

***

“The Final Countdown”, by Europe, is a single from their album of the same name. It was released in 1986, and was written by Joey Tempest. It’s on the Epic label.

We’re leavin’ together
But still it’s farewell
And maybe we’ll come back
To Earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We’re leaving ground (leaving ground)
Will things ever be the same again?
It’s the final countdown
The final countdown
Oh
We’re headin’ for Venus (Venus)
And still we stand tall
‘Cause maybe they’ve seen us
And welcome us all, yeah
With so many light years to go
And things to be found (to be found)
I’m sure that we all miss her so
It’s the final countdown
The final countdown
The final countdown (final countdown)
(Oh)
Oh
The final countdown, oh
It’s the final countdown
The final countdown
The final countdown (final countdown)
(Oh)
It’s the final countdown
We’re leavin’ together
(The final countdown)
We’ll all miss her so
It’s the final countdown (final countdown)
(Oh)
It’s the final countdown
Yeah

These are short phrases (or micro fiction) that I wrote years ago.

This one I wrote for a writing challenge back in July of 2016.

DIG

Dig, hoe, rake, plant

Dig, hoe, rake, plant

Jim Bob felt like an automaton, now, just like everyone else.

Dig, hoe, rake, plant

Straight rows, down the line, even spaces, he was not allowed to stop.

Strange voices, weird food, sickening smells…just keep going.

The plants talk to him, chanting…

Dig hoe, rake, plant

The aliens look on, and revel in their take-over of the Earthlings.

There are so many good theme songs for TV shows! Most all are memorable if we were a fan of the shows, as we heard them every time the show was aired. Most were also easy to sing along to.

I didn’t hear you leave
I wonder how am I still here
I don’t want to move a thing
It might change my memory

Oh I am what I am
I’ll do what I want, but I can’t hide
I won’t go, I won’t sleep
I can’t breathe, until you’re resting here with me
I won’t leave, I can’t hide
I cannot be, until you’re resting here with me
I don’t want to call my friends
They might wake me from this dream
And I can’t leave this bed
Risk forgetting all that’s been

Oh I am what I am

I’ll do what I want, but I can’t hide
I won’t go, I won’t sleep

I can’t breathe, until you’re resting here with me
I won’t leave, I can’t hide

I won’t go, I won’t sleep
I can’t breathe, until you’re resting here with me
I won’t leave, I can’t hide
I cannot be, until you’re resting here with me
Oh I am what I am
I’ll do what I want, but I can’t hide
I won’t go, I won’t sleep
I can’t breathe, until you’re resting here with me
I won’t leave, I can’t hide
I cannot be, until you’re resting here with me
I won’t leave, I can’t hide
I cannot be, until you’re resting here with me

Welcome to the first post of my A to Z Blogging Challenge 2019!

The Mystery Box Chickens will introduce the topic for the day, with silly remarks, because well…chickens are sillyl! 🙂

Hope you enjoy!

ALIEN DOCTOR?

I have been drawn to the stars and sky for as long as I can remember. There is a need for me to look up into the darkness, even when I was a little kid, sneaking out of the house to look at the starry sky. I still do this almost every night.

I feel like maybe aliens know of me, and have made their presence known to me, throughout the years. This story is one of those times. The memory of the incident has haunted me all this time, because of the not knowing why it happened, or the truth of it. I do know it happened to me, and was not a dream.

I was always in and out of the doctor’s office for this or that, as a child. One time was really strange. The Dr. was tired of seeing me always in there, and told me if I ever came back, he’d make sure I never did again. He took me and my mom (who didn’t say a word, just followed – which was completely not normal) down some concrete steps, to the basement of the hospital.

He was strange looking. He was a very short man, wearing a long white coat, and large dark glasses, so I couldn’t see his eyes behind them. He said to look at what was down there…that these people didn’t listen to him, and that this is what would happen to me, too. It was terrifying.

I saw people strapped down onto these huge roulette-like wheels. Some were upright, some were situated more flat to the floor, and they couldn’t move. They were very scared. Once in awhile an assistant would come and spin the wheels around really fast.

At that point, the doctor took my hand and pricked my finger to draw blood, for a blood test. Then he said for us to leave. I vowed to never, ever go back to that doctor again, no matter what, even if I was sick, and I never did, even when I did get sick…I just never told anyone I was not feeling well.

So, that is how this one ended, but I have reason to believe there have been many other encounters over the years…just not as scary.

~

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Have you had mysterious encounters?

Today’s prompt: charisma, guacamole, rose

Today’s prompt: chess, aliens, greenhouse

Today’s prompt: sandwich, cloud, legend

Wow…I’m really behind in doing these challenge prompts! So, today I’ve mashed the past four together using all the words. Maybe tomorrow I can get on track of doing one per day? 🙂

Legend IRL

Today’s weather report is calling for clouds with a chance of sandwiches. haha Not really, but when our nanny babysits for my little zombie and alien hybrid babies, she likes to tell them fantastical stories. She has a lot of charisma for a nanny.

Besides telling the kids fun stories, she’s a whiz at playing chess. She usually wins when we play. That’s why I brought her a bouquet of red roses. I grow them in my greenhouse, you know. When the children are taking a nap, we set up the chess board, get out some chips and guacamole to snack on, and play the game for an hour or so.

I’ll tell ya, our nanny is a legend in real life. I’m glad we hired her for the job. It wasn’t easy finding a nanny who saw no problem with a mixed race family.

Three Things Challenge # 12

Today’s prompt: meatloaf, charger, sunblock

***

I was busy fixing a meatloaf for my supper, when the end of the world happened.

Just as I put the dish into the oven to cook, all the electricity in the house went out. I tried the lights, the TV, and checked the fuse box, but they all looked fine…just wouldn’t work.

Getting a bit worried, I grabbed my cell phone to call my friends. I wanted to know if their power was out, too. When I turned on my phone, though, I saw that I only had one % left in the battery. Crap! I got my charger and plugged it in. Of course I’d forgotten that to charge my phone, I needed electricity.

Now I was without supper and no phone life left. I knew I should have remembered to charge it up, but I was notorious about forgetting it.

I went outside. It was still daylight, as it was only about 5 p.m. The sun was on it’s way down, though. At least I think it was. Something was causing a sunblock. Well, I don’t know if that was what you’d call it, but the sky was funny looking. It wasn’t bright out, but there weren’t any clouds either. My neighbors were all outside, too, looking around. So it wasn’t just me and my house.

What happened next you won’t believe unless you were there. All the civil defense sirens began blowing…so loud! We heard the announcement like a voice from on high, but it was just the speakers attached to the power poles.

We have been invaded by unknown planetary entities …take cover…take cover now!

And so we did.

I ran back into my house, just running around from room to room, not knowing what to do. I’ve always been aware of tornado safety rules, and earthquake survival tips, but what will save me from alien invasion? Nothing! I’m doomed!

Finally, I grabbed my purse, because that’s what you do in an emergency, of course, and crawled under my bed. Maybe if they couldn’t see me, I’d be okay. I stayed there for I don’t know how long, but it seemed like hours. Eventually another announcement came over the speakers that all was clear. The electricity came back on and the TV news was giving explanations about the incident.

It seems the alien spacecraft that had blocked our sunshine, and depleted our electricity were not invading at all. They were friendly, but were just making a pit stop to charge up their own vehicle space ship while on their way to another planet.

Whew! Everyone was fine, but I really think they could have given us a little warning that they were stopping by for a short visit. Don’t you?

Welcome to the 2018 edition of the A to Z Blogging Challenge!

All through the month of April, the challenge asks us to blog every day (except Sundays), and to go through the alphabet A to Z, connecting our posts to the letter of each day.

My idea for this time, my 5th to participate, is to showcase a book or two each day, and provide a tiny bit of information about them. These will not be a full book review, but just saying what it is about, and if I liked the book or not.

These books are mostly books that I already have on my shelves, and have read, or are on my to be read stacks. There will be a very few of them that I don’t already own, or have read.

I will also post a quote each day that has something to say about books, or reading.

Hope you enjoy, and maybe see a book or a few that you might want to read, too.

***

“The Maze Runner”, by James Dashner is the start of a riveting novel series.  I found these in the Young Adult section of the book store. In the notes at the front of the book it says it is Science Fiction.

The main character, Thomas, wakes up in a strange world, and has no recollection of who he is or how he got to this place. There are other teens here, who have no clue, either, but they help him find his way around. They are all trying to escape the maze, which is outside their fortress.

Thomas becomes a runner. His job is to run through the mazes, and document what he finds. Along the way there are horrible creatures trying to kill him.

There is so much going on in this book, it’s hard to say much, without giving away the way it turns out. It does keep you turning the pages, and then wanting the next book in the series, each one building to the final conclusion.

This book was made into a movie, which I did see. It was very good, and stayed pretty true to the book.

“Morning Glory,” By Gloria Ann Hawker, is her true account of being involved and abducted by aliens.

Living in Albuquerque New Mexico, she began to experience strange events in her life. Documenting it all, she came to realize she was dealing with the manipulations of alien beings.

Then, the government became interested in her case, and she was subjected to their manipulations, too, which were just as horrible.

I got to meet Ms Hawker in person, and have a short conversation with her. This was in Roswell New Mexico. She was there as a speaker, and she had a book signing on the day we were there. She signed my copy of her book (photo) which reads, ‘One day the truth of this phenomena will be known – Gloria’.

I do believe there are aliens here, and I sincerely believe Ms Hawker knows it, too.
