Welcome to the 2018 edition of the A to Z Blogging Challenge!

All through the month of April, the challenge asks us to blog every day (except Sundays), and to go through the alphabet A to Z, connecting our posts to the letter of each day.

My idea for this time, my 5th to participate, is to showcase a book or two each day, and provide a tiny bit of information about them. These will not be a full book review, but just saying what it is about, and if I liked the book or not.

These books are mostly books that I already have on my shelves, and have read, or are on my to be read stacks. There will be a very few of them that I don’t already own, or have read.

I will also post a quote each day that has something to say about books, or reading.

Hope you enjoy, and maybe see a book or a few that you might want to read, too.

“The Maze Runner”, by James Dashner is the start of a riveting novel series.  I found these in the Young Adult section of the book store. In the notes at the front of the book it says it is Science Fiction.

The main character, Thomas, wakes up in a strange world, and has no recollection of who he is or how he got to this place. There are other teens here, who have no clue, either, but they help him find his way around. They are all trying to escape the maze, which is outside their fortress.

Thomas becomes a runner. His job is to run through the mazes, and document what he finds. Along the way there are horrible creatures trying to kill him.

There is so much going on in this book, it’s hard to say much, without giving away the way it turns out. It does keep you turning the pages, and then wanting the next book in the series, each one building to the final conclusion.

This book was made into a movie, which I did see. It was very good, and stayed pretty true to the book.

“Morning Glory,” By Gloria Ann Hawker, is her true account of being involved and abducted by aliens.

Living in Albuquerque New Mexico, she began to experience strange events in her life. Documenting it all, she came to realize she was dealing with the manipulations of alien beings.

Then, the government became interested in her case, and she was subjected to their manipulations, too, which were just as horrible.

I got to meet Ms Hawker in person, and have a short conversation with her. This was in Roswell New Mexico. She was there as a speaker, and she had a book signing on the day we were there. She signed my copy of her book (photo) which reads, ‘One day the truth of this phenomena will be known – Gloria’.

I do believe there are aliens here, and I sincerely believe Ms Hawker knows it, too.

51 Weeks/51 Songs From the Past – Nonsense Lyrics

51 Weeks: 51 Songs From The Past: Week 36: Neil Sedaka – Calendar Girl

Thanks again for the most interesting prompt this week, Hugh!

***

Nonsense lyrics is what Hugh has asked us to consider this week. Well, maybe not nonsense, but strange ones, that make you wonder what in the world are they singing about.

There’s plenty of songs that have made-up words that make no sense, but that’s just fun. Then there’s the kind of lyrics that you just can’t understand what the actual words are, so you add your own words to fill in. These are called ‘mondegreens’. Some can be hilarious, especially when you finally find out what the words really were.

For me, I love music of all kinds, and like to sing along, but I don’t think I ever analyzed the lyrics, to find out anything more than what was being sung.

I looked for a list of songs that people have questioned the lyrics, and what they meant. There was a long list, too many to post here, and these were just more modern rock songs.

Here is the long list of rock tunes that have nonsense lyrics and his interpretation of them. It’s very interesting! 🙂

That said, I just picked one from that list. It’s a song that I’ve always liked, because it brings back memories of an all night long, nonsensical drive around town with friends.

Here’s what is interesting/strange about the lyrics, to me, now that I’ve read them.

  • Why 73 men? What’s the significance of that number?
  • A storm was blowing, yet the sea was peaceful?
  • The ship was a mystery ship, come from nowhere, and then disappeared. Were they aliens from another planet trying to lure people to their ‘mystery ship’, and ‘another world’?

“Ride Captain Ride”, by Blues Image, was released in 1970, from the album, “Open”. It was written by Mike Pinera, and Frank Konte, and is on the Atco/Atlantic label.

Ride Captain Ride

{Intro}

Seventy-three men sailed up from the San Francisco Bay
Rolled off of their ship, and here’s what they had to say
“We’re callin’ everyone to ride along to another shore
We can laugh our lives away and be free once more”

But no one heard them callin’, no one came at all
Cause they were too busy watchin’ those old raindrops fall
As a storm was blowin’ out on the peaceful sea
Seventy-three men sailed off to history

Ride, captain ride upon your mystery ship
Be amazed at the friends you have here on your trip

Ride captain ride upon your mystery ship
On your way to a world that others might have missed

{Bridge}

“FROZEN IN TIME”

The family’s abduction by the aliens left the lovely homestead abandoned and forlorn.

Twenty years it’s been frozen in time.

Only the spiders in the corners know the truth…they watch and wait.

DIG

Dig, hoe, rake, plant

Dig, hoe, rake, plant

Jim Bob felt like an automaton, now, just like everyone else.

Dig, hoe, rake, plant

Straight rows, down the line, even spaces, he was not allowed to stop.

Strange voices, weird food, sickening smells…just keep going.

The plants talk to him, chanting…

Dig hoe, rake, plant

The aliens look on, and revel in their take-over of the Earthlings.

WORLD UFO DAY

Standard

WORLD UFO DAY

Today, July 2nd, is designated as World UFO Day. It is the date of the supposed UFO crash in 1947, near Roswell, New Mexico. Every year Roswell hosts a UFO Festival at this time of year, with all kinds of fun things to do and see. There is the UFO museum, with lots of information about the crash landing, interactive scenes you can take photos of yourself in, a gift shop, and speakers and authors. Outside, there are street dances, costume contests, and a parade of just about anything UFO related.

We went to this one year, and it was so much fun. If you get a chance, you should plan to go. In the meantime, you can go out tonight and search the skies for UFOs! You never know what you’ll see. I do expect to see fireworks, though, as the 4th of July is in a couple of days. People around here have already been shooting/popping their fireworks at night.

Have a great 4th of July weekend, everyone!

Here’s a couple of photos of our trip to Roswell, NM, and the UFO Festival a few years ago. 🙂

ALIEN DOCTOR?

Standard

ALIEN DOCTOR?

I have been drawn to the stars and sky for as long as I can remember. There is a need for me to look up into the darkness, even when I was a little kid, sneaking out of the house to look at the starry sky. I still do this almost every night.

I feel like maybe aliens know of me, and have made their presence known to me, throughout the years. This story is one of those times. The memory of the incident has haunted me all this time, because of the not knowing why it happened, or the truth of it. I do know it happened to me, and was not a dream.

I was always in and out of the doctor’s office for this or that, as a child. One time was really strange. The Dr. was tired of seeing me always in there, and told me if I ever came back, he’d make sure I never did again. He took me and my mom (who didn’t say a word, just followed – which was completely not normal) down some concrete steps, to the basement of the hospital.

He was strange looking. He was a very short man, wearing a long white coat, and large dark glasses, so I couldn’t see his eyes behind them. He said to look at what was down there…that these people didn’t listen to him, and that this is what would happen to me, too. It was terrifying.

I was probably ten years old. I saw people strapped down onto these huge roulette-like wheels. Some were upright, some were situated more flat to the floor, and they couldn’t move. They were very scared. Once in awhile an assistant would come and spin the wheels around really fast.

At that point, the doctor took my hand and pricked my finger to draw blood, for a blood test. Then he said for us to leave. I vowed to never, ever go back to that doctor again, no matter what, even if I was sick, and I never did, even when I did get sick…I just never told anyone I was not feeling well.

So, that is how this one ended, but I have reason to believe there have been many other encounters over the years…just not as scary.

~

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Have you had mysterious encounters?

~

Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
