We visited the Kansas City Missouri Zoo last summer. It was wonderful to see all the animals in their habitats.

I love giraffes, and there were a lot of them wandering among the tall trees, and also nibbling on the bark.

There was a little gift shop there too, called the Tree Tops, with a giraffe motif.

These are some trees I saw while we were driving around today. Not too bad for taking the photo as we were moving on down the road.

  • Two large trees in a roadside park. In between is a fountain spraying into the little lake.
  • A medium sized tree in a business landscaping area. In the foreground is some yellow/dried bear grass.
  • Another medium sized tree by the road.
  • A couple of trees by the lake by our house (you can see a bit of the blue water)

A couple of days late, but here’s my entry for the Sunday Trees challenge. 🙂

***

These are the trees I see every day right around our house.

The first one is our front yard tree in the beginning of fall. The leaves have already started to turn yellow and fall to the ground. You can also see part of our sidewalk, and a weathered wood bench. One of our neighbors built the bench for us.

The next photos I took yesterday afternoon during a rain and hail storm. Lots of thunder, and rain, and the hail  was very loud, but not very big…about pea to marble sized.

There is the tree directly next door. You can see the mailbox in this one.

Then the big tree directly across the street from us. You can see part of their house.

Last tree is across from us, too.

Lots of green leaves, and we have had plenty of rain this year.

We have some beautiful sunsets here. These dark tree branches were silhouetted against the fiery orange and delicate pink sunsets.

Sunday Trees – Gnarly Bark in the Park

Sunday Trees – Gnarly Bark in the Park

Here are some photos of trees in a park here, showing their gnarly bark.

First one is looking upward into the tree branches. I was standing right under, by the trunk. (Browns & greens)

The next one is a close up of the bark. Bark on trees is always interesting in the patterns it makes, and how rough it feels.

Third photo is another tree in a park, Can you find the squirrel? (he’s sitting in shadows as a sillouette way up in the branches – upper left)

Last photo is another park tree. It’s roots and bark are mostly in the water, with green branches hanging over.

Sunday Trees – Love Chime

Sunday Trees – Love Chime

For today’s Sunday Trees challenge, I have photos of our one tree in the front yard. I think it is a fruitless Mulberry, and has been here for many years.

I have a couple of wind chimes hanging from the branches, and this little black & white kitty was looking at them, as he stood on the wooden bench beneath the tree.

The one chime is made of silver colored pipes and makes a nice sound. The other one – two views – is all rusted. It has the word Love spelled out, and there are several cow bells hanging from it. This chime has been there so long, the tree has grown around the ring on the chime.

Then, here’s a poem I wrote way back in 2015 about trees.

Little kitty, wind chimes, our tree!

TREES

Trees in winter

They stand and stare

Do they think that it’s not fair?

Patient they stand

Stark and bare

Enduring winter’s brutal air

Do trees dream of winter’s end,

Yearning for springtime to begin?

A fresh, new start

Green leaves so frilly

A time to rejoice, a time to be silly

Rustling with the nesting of birds,

Pretty music they make, without any words.

A sanctuary for many species

The need for trees only increases

Giving hope, shelter, and shade,

A tree’s true purpose will never fade.

I think a tree must know it’s worth…

The reason it is put on this Earth.

Sunday Trees – Contrast

Sunday Trees – Contrast

For today’s Sunday Trees I have two contrasting photos.

The first one is an elaborately decorated live tree. It was for the Christmas season in Columbia Missouri. It has all the colors of the rainbow along all the many branches, and lit up against the dark night sky, it was beautiful

The next photo you could say is absent of any color. It is our neighbor’s tree with all the branches covered in thick white ice, and is also beautiful.
