Tarantula

***

This is Terry the Tarantula! I took his picture quite a few years ago when we visited Ft. Davis TX. He/or she was walking along the parking lot at the Indian Lodge cabins where we were staying. He wasn’t in a hurry, and neither were we, so we followed him around for awhile, and decided he needed a name, so we called him Terry.

Back when I was a kid, our neighbor lady would always talk about a place in a nearby town she called, Transler Hill. She said it was a hill that swarmed with these spiders. We always called them ‘translers’, and until many years later I found out how it was really spelled. I always wanted to go see this place.

Another time while living in Oklahoma, my husband and a friend went fishing, and when they came back to the house, they said to me to come look what they had. So, I did. They had a foam cooler, and it was full of these big Tarantula spiders they had caught.

They tipped over the cooler, out in the front yard, and these spiders crawled out all over the place. They went all over the yard, in the street, and even climbed up on our screen door. It was amazing! People drove by and stared at this crazy sight. Our cat at the time, a Siamese called Mr. Kat, didn’t know whether to run or try to catch them. He kind of did both.

I don’t know what happened to all the spiders, but I guess they all crawled off somewhere in the bushes.

We used to see spiders like this quite a lot, but it’s been a long time since we have.

Hamburger Burglar

Hamburger Burglar

***

This is my sort of correct drawing of where the burger place was. We lived where the houses were, then there was the small grocery store/drug store/beauty shop/gas station on top of a cliff. Homer & Ella’s burger place was down below the cliffs in the area we called the canyon.

Here’s a true story that happened when I was a kid. It was slightly funny at the time, but kind of strange.

We had a favorite place we’d get hamburgers to take home. This was the days before fast food restaurants, so this place was just a small mom & pop place for take out food. It was called Homer & Ella’s. I don’t know why, but they were the best tasting burgers I’ve ever tasted, even to this day.

Most times on a Saturday late afternoon my dad would go pick up some burgers for our evening meal. On one occasion, on the way back home, he stopped in at the little drug store or grocery store at the end of our street. He left the sack of burgers on the front seat of his car.

When he got back in, the sack was gone! Someone had burgled the burgers!

So, he went back to Homer & Ella’s to get another order and brought them home, where he told us the story of the stolen burgers.

There was one more incident later on, where I started eating my burger, and there was no hamburger patty in there! Had to make another trip to the place that time, too.

Then another year, 1970, the F5 Tornado blew through the city, and Homer & Ella’s was blown clean away, along with the little grocery/drug store and gas station at the end of our street.

I still miss those hamburgers.

Caution – may cause unintentional/inappropriate laughing (especially if I get just one letter wrong … and those letters are so close together on the keyboard!

On the subject of shirts …

I am not a tucker.

I am an un-tucker.

How about you?

These pictures are of men from Pixabay , but this pro/con job can be for women’s shirts, too.

The pros or cons of tucking in your shirt:

  • It can look nice and neat
  • It’s good for a business office look
  • It’s expected that men will tuck in their shirt.
  • It suits an uptight person
  • Shirts made for tucking in usually cost more.

The pros or cons of un-tucking your shirt:

  • It is a casual look.
  • It is more comfortable
  • It is easier to move around.
  • You don’t have to keep checking to keep it tucked in all around.
  • (to me) it is a better look
  • Shirts made for un-tucking are less expensive most times

And now according to my list, I believe the consensus is in favor of the un-tucked shirt.

This week for SYW, Melanie has shared another blogger’s questions, added on to the usual questions of Monday. Thanks Melanie, and Roger… To join in and to see other entries just click the above link. 🙂

***

These first questions have something to do with the ‘Harry Potter’ books and movies. Sounds interesting, even though I’ve never read any of the books, and have only see bits and pieces of the first movie.

Anyway, here are the Qs and As …

SorcererStoneSYW

This week the book OR the movie is “Harry Potter And The Sorcerer’s Stone”

Share Your World Meets Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

  1. Because of the state-wide quarantines many of the local SPCA’s are having an influx of animals. You have decided that you would love to have a new pet. Would you go the normal wizardry route and pick an owl, a cat, or a toad? Or would you become a more eccentric wizard (like Hagrid, the games keeper) and seek out a three-headed dog, a dragon, or a unicorn? Please explain your answer.

I would love to have a cat or dog. Just regular ones, not magical. I’ve had both, and they are magical all on their own, as they are sweet, soft, cute, funny, they listen with their heart, and give love and are wonderful companions.

  1. Neville Longbottom was gifted a Remembrall. This was a glass ball that would assist you in maintaining memories of things that you often forget. What would you want your Remembrall to help you remember?

This Remembrall thing sounds pretty cool. For years I’ve wished I’d kept a list from the very first book I ever read, up to the present time. This ball thing would give me the ability to remember each and every book I ever read.

  1. Professor Dumbledore gave Harry Potter an invisibility cloak that Dumbledore said was from Harry’s father. Now, you have inherited a cloak with similar powers. Would you use it? When?

Would I like a cloak to make me invisible whenever I wanted? Sure, but then I already can be invisible whenever I want to – I am a Ghost!

  1. While cleaning your attic, you have discovered the Mirror of Erised. (“Erised” is “desire” spelled backwards, as if reflected in a mirror) The Mirror of Erised is a magical mirror, which, according to Professor Dumbledore, when you gaze into it, it shows the “deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts.” You have chosen to look in the mirror. What do you see?

I think I’d take a pass on just seeing into the mirror unless it could magically make it come true. In that case I’d see peace in the world between everyone, and the end to illness and accidents.

Please have a bit of fun with the answers.   Even if you aren’t a Potter fan, the questions are (to me anyway) fun ones which could be answered ‘outside of Harry Potter’s world’.   Imagination might be required though.   🙂

“Plain” Questions:

Would You Rather Live 120 Years That Are Comfortable But Boring, Or Live Half As Long, But Have An Exciting Adventure Packed Life?

I think 120 comfortable years would be best for me. I’m not up for exciting adventures.

What’s Something That Overwhelms You?

The state of the world right now.

What Do or DID You Take For Granted?

I’d say everything and nothing.

Lots of Spots or Not – Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Spot

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Aug. 8/2020

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “spot.” Write whatever image the word “spot” invokes. Have fun!

Today for SOCS we have ‘spot’ as the prompt. Thanks, Linda! To join in and to see other entries, just click the above link.

You sometimes see these kinds of mushrooms or toad stools as a decoration or whatever, because they look cute.

Here’s a few I grabbed out of a fairy garden I made.  I think I read that real red ones with white spots are deadly, though.

See Spot

See Spot run

See Spot play

Spot

***

I never had a dog named Spot. I don’t think I ever had a dog that was spotted, either.

***

X marks the spot though, on things like pirate maps. That’s where you can find the treasure.

***

I like those picture games where you see two pictures with tiny differences between them. The game is to see if you can spot the different things.

***

We used to have a local small newspaper or magazine (can’t remember which, but it was a free thing you picked up at the supermarket). One of the regular features was photos of people around town doing things. The article was always called “Spotted”. We’d always scan the pictures to see if there was anyone we knew in them. I guess the photographer just went around snapping pictures of random people.

That’s all for now. If I keep going around saying ‘spot spot spot’ any more today I might be considered weird. But not really any weirder than usual, and it’s only me and the mister here, and he’s used to it. haha! 🙂

What will finally break the Internet?  Do you believe it can be broken at all?

I doubt anything will actually ‘break’ the internet, but it will maybe dwindle away as something new will be invented that everyone will start to use.

What are some ‘red flags’ to watch out for in daily life?  (take it as you want)

Listen to your intuition – that feeling you get is your early warning system working for you – a red flag of something bad going to happen if you ignore it.

What’s the silliest thing someone has argued with you about?

Probably trying to decide what or where to eat lunch or dinner.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve found lying on the ground / side of the road?

A skeleton! It was a real skeleton of some little animal. I found this when I was a kid while on a hike at the lake. We were way up in the dried up weeds on  dirt trail, and I saw the poor little skeleton. I picked up all the bones and took them home. I kept them for many years, and I don’t know what finally happened to them.

Mystery Noise

Mystery Noise

***

For the past few weeks we’ve been hearing strange noises.

It sounds like it’s someone walking around or bumping the ceiling when we are out in the garage.

I hear it early in the mornings when it’s still dark outside, and also during the day, and at night.

I just hear it out there, not when we are in the house, just the garage.

It might be up in the attic, or even on the roof, but I don’t know.

Could it be birds on the roof? I’m thinking no, because the birds we have around here are not large, and wouldn’t weigh enough to make a sound with their feet. They aren’t active at night anyway.

Could it be cats on the roof. Possible, but the outside cats we have now are just not that energetic to climb on the roof and I’ve never seen them up there. We have had cats that did, in the past though.

It couldn’t be squirrels, or raccoons, because we don’t have those around here either.

Once I thought it might be the wind blowing the shingles on the roof, but I’ve looked outside when I hear the noise, and the wind isn’t blowing at all.

This might be strange, but I think it’s our ghost, or another one has come to pay a visit. There are no other noises, though … just the thumping sound.

Here’s the opening to our attic that is out there. There is nothing at all stored up there, and we never go up there.

The Bad Seeds

The Bad Seeds

***

Do you see anything growing in these three pots of dirt?

Nope, I sure don’t.

I have been trying to grow something for months, and so far have had no luck at all.

First of all, I lost my seeds. I had a bunch of seed packets in a ziplock bag, and it’s gone. I haven’t been to any kind of store to buy any more seeds.

I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find them.

So, I’ve just been sticking any kind of seed I can find into these little pots in the hopes that something will come up.

Let me count the number of seeds that are in there.

There are some bird seeds (variety)

There are some bell pepper seeds

There are lemon and cherry seeds

There are tree seeds

There are some apple seeds

Maybe there are some more, but I forget. Looks like something or other would sprout. I keep them watered, and after a few weeks I stick another kind of seed in there. Nothing …

They are all bad seeds. haha!
