Dear Diary – December 28 – January 6, 1961
For those who haven’t seen my Dear Diary posts before, a little explanation. This is my actual diary I wrote in for a full year, when I was 10 years old. I wrote every day, sometimes a lot, sometimes a little, sometimes funny, sometimes boring, but it was all recorded. Names of relatives are only first initials with relationship in parentheses. I’ve typed the entries just as I wrote them, misspellings and all, but corrected in parentheses. More posts of Dear Diary can be found by using categories, or search box. Hope you enjoy reading my childhood diary! 🙂
12/28/61 – I went to
twon town. I played.
12/29/61 – I played. We went over to B’s (aunt).
12/30/61 – I played. We went over to Mrs. S’s (neighbor lady). I played. We went to N’s (aunt). At night we went to grannys. We ate supper.
12/31/61 – I played. It was New Years eve.
***note*** I started this series of diary entries on the June 5th entry. We’ve come to the end of the 1961 year, but I didn’t do the Jan. – June 4 ones, so will continue with the Jan. 1st, 1961 entry.***
***note # 2*** For the first 4 entries in my diary, I signed each one with “Your dearest friend and writer, Barbara”. Then I didn’t do any more. I guess I figured my diary already knew who I was – haha! Yes, I knew I was a writer even when I was 10 years old! 🙂
1/1/61 – It is New Year’s day.Everyone came over and ate dinner with us.
1/2/61 – Mother and I had to clean up the house. I buffed the floors in the bedroom. (we had real hardwood floors in all the rooms except the kitchen, which had linoleum, and that got waxed and buffed regularly, too). P.S. I hated doing that chore, even though the wax smelled good and the buffing machine was kind of fun to use, when it wasn’t going all crazy because I couldn’t hold on to it very good! I’m pretty sure that’s why I don’t like doing the floors now.
1/3/61 – I went to school. I had a headach (headache) all day.
1/4/61 – I went to school. After school we went to the cleaners. I played with P (sister). Grandma & Grandpa ate supper with us.
1/5/61 – I went to school & I took my doll. I went to grandma’s to night.
1/6/61 – I went to school and when I got hom (home) after a while we went bowlling (bowling). I baked my first cake and made a tea party with P (sister)
Now that is an interesting fact/co-incident. I remember baking that cake, a very simple one from a kid’s cook-book. It turned out really good. Then, many years later my own daughter was born… on a January 6th. So…for many years I baked a cake for her birthday…each January 6th! 🙂
Thanks for visiting! Peace ☮️
