UFO – Just Jot It January & SOCS

Your prompt for #JusJoJan the 14th and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “once upon a time.” Start your post with “Once upon a time,” then write whatever comes to you, whether it be fact or fiction. Have fun!

A true story:

sign on UFO museum – Roswell NM

Once upon a time my Uncle Travis was a sheriff. He was a sheriff in Roswell, New Mexico. He was there when the UFO crashed in the area.

He was ordered (by the government) to never speak of what he saw or heard of the incident.

I don’t know if he ever did or not, because this happened in 1947, before I was even born. But this story has been in our family ever since.

I wish I’d have known so I could have asked about it more, but I was just a little kid when I would see him and my aunt and cousins. They’d drive to our Granny & Grand-dad’s house here to visit. They’d drive in the sheriff’s car, which looked really neat.

The cousins and I would have fun, either going bowling, or playing cards. The grown-ups would talk, and also play dominoes called 42. We’d see them at Christmas and other holidays.

Our family traveled to Roswell, NM to visit them too, once in awhile.

Still, nothing was said (that I ever heard first hand) about the UFO incident.

Now he has passed on, and there is no way to ask about it. So it remains a mystery in our family to this day. I do believe he knew the truth about it all, and that that truth was covered up for whatever reason.

Thanks for visiting! Peace ☮️

  1. I always wanted to go to Area 51. When I was in the Air Force working the switchboard we often got calls reporting UFOs. It must have been fascinating to have been in your Uncle’s shoes although he might not have thought so.

    • Thanks, Maggie! That would be very interesting for sure. I’ve been to the Roswell UFO Museum and also right around the 4th of July they have the festival and symposiums which are so interesting. There are authors signing their books about their experiences. I’ve been interested in UFOs since I was little. 🙂

    • Thanks, Emily! Oh how cool that would be! A mystery solved. I have no idea of what happened to anything of his like that. Probably my cousins handled his estate. I do have a lot of old papers and all of his that my granny had saved when he was a kid. 🙂

    • Thanks, Ellen! I know. If I’d been older or knew about things earlier when I was grown, I would have probably asked about it. We only got to see my uncle, aunt, and cousins about once a year, though. 🙂
