This song is the first one I thought of. It’s one of my favorites from this group. I liked all their songs, and this one I pretty much could, and can sing all the lyrics without looking, since I listened to it so much back then. The song is telling a story of looking at a faded photograph, and all the memories that it brings back, of better days.
I was sad to hear of the passing of Jani Lane in 2011. He had a wonderful voice, and songwriting abilities. He, and his band, Warrant, were popular in the ‘glam metal’ genre. It would have been great to see how they evolved in later years, had it not been for his struggle with alcohol and drugs.

“Heaven”, by Warrant, was released as a single from the album, “Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich”, in 1988. It was written by Jani Lane, and is on the Columbia label.

And you’re standing by the door.
It’s black and white and faded,
And it’s looking pretty worn.
See the factory that I worked
Silhouetted in the back.
The memories are gray but man they’re really coming back.
As long as i’m the hero of this little girl
Closer to it everyday
No matter what your friends might say
And the sparkle in your eyes
There’s a color deep inside them
Like blue suburban skys
When i come home late at night
And you’re in bed asleep
I wrap my arms around you
So I can feel you breathe
As long as you will always be my biggest fan
Closer to it everyday (Ah, ah)
No matter what your friends might say
We’ll find our way, yeah
Along the boulevard
Memories come rushing back and makes it pretty hard
I’ve got nowhere left to go
And no one really cares
I don’t know what to do
But I’m never giving up on you.
Closer to it every day
Ohhhh ohhh
No matter what your friends say
I know we’re gonna find a way
Whoah, oohh, ohhh
It’s not too far away
It’s not too far away
It’s not too far away
It’s not too far away
Beautiful music Barbara, thanks for sharing this.

I saw the word “Heaven” and immediately started singing “Heaven must be missing an angel” from Tavares!

Thanks, Alice! Funny how a word brings to mind a song or some other remembrance. I didn’t recognize the title of that one or the artist, so I looked it up. Yes! I have heard that one before, but a long time ago. It is a good one! Thanks for reminding me of it! 🙂
