Our theme this week is ‘sweet, delightful, pleasant’.

Thanks to Jim Adams, and to Paula , who suggested the prompt words for today.

There are lots of songs with the word ‘sweet’ in the title or lyrics. I like a lot of them, but went with this one today. I’ve always liked Guns N’ Roses songs.

From a Wiki article:

During a jam session the guys in the band each came up with parts of the music, then …

Lead singer Axl Rose was listening to the musicians upstairs in his room and was inspired to write lyrics, which he completed by the following afternoon.[9] He based it on his girlfriend Erin Everly, and declared that Lynyrd Skynyrd served as an inspiration “to make sure that we’d got that heartfelt feeling”.[8] On the next composing session in Burbank, the band added a bridge and a guitar solo.[9]

“Sweet Child O’Mine”, by Guns N’ Roses, was released on their album, “Appetite For Destruction”, in 1988. It is credited as being written by GNR, but I believe Axl Rose wrote the lyrics. It is on the Geffen label.

Lyrics are on the video

Well that was weird. The video I watched and copied had the lyrics on it, but now they are not. I added them below.

She’s got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories
Where everything was as fresh as the bright blue sky
Now and then when I see her face
She takes me away to that special place
And if I stare too long, I’d probably break down and cry
Whoa, oh, oh
Sweet child o’ mine
Whoa, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine
She’s got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I’d hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I’d hide
And pray for the thunder and the rain to quietly pass me by
Whoa, oh, oh
Sweet child o’ mine
Whoa whoa, oh, oh, oh
Sweet love of mine
Whoa, yeah
Whoa, oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o’ mine
Whoa, oh, whoa, oh
Sweet love of mine
Whoa, oh, oh, oh
Sweet child o’ mine
Ooh, yeah
Ooh, sweet love of mine
Where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Ooh, oh, where do we go?
Where do we go now?
Oh, where do we go now?
Where do we go? (Sweet child)
Where do we go now?
Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, ay
Where do we go now?
Ah, ah
Where do we go?
Oh, where do we go now?
Oh, where do we go?
Oh, where do we go now?
Where do we go?
Oh, where do we go now?
Now, now, now, now, now, now, now
Sweet child
Sweet child of mine

    • Thanks, Jim! They have sure had some good songs, and this was always a favorite of mine. Glad you like it, too. Oh, the lyrics were on the video I copied, but now they disappeared, so I added them. 🙂

    • Thanks, Di! It is a good song, as are a lot of their other songs. Glad you liked it. You know, the lyrics were on the video I copied, but then they disappeared! I added them though. 🙂

  1. I remember hearing somewhere that Slash’s famous guitar riff that leads off this song was something he routinely played during practice… and the band wanted to incorporate it into one of their songs.
