Playful Pins – Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Pin

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “pin.” Use it as a noun, use it as a verb, use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Thanks for the prompt each Saturday, Linda!<3

Pins … have I got pins!

I’ve had and worn pins since I was a kid, and I still have some of them. I have collected a few over the years, too, and like wearing them from time to time.

Pins, sometimes also called brooches, are fun. There are lots of variety in shapes and subjects to choose from, too. You can find them for holidays, birds, political (sometimes called buttons – but they are pins, too), animals of all kinds, souvenir pins from concerts you attend, and I’m sure many more kinds. They can add a fun flair to what you wear, and/or make a statement of something you’re in favor of. There are even little machines you can buy to make your own created pin!

I did try to find out the difference, if there was one, between a pin and a brooch. Can’t remember it exactly, but it was ‘all brooches are pins, but not all pins are brooches’. However, they both are decorative jewelry worn on your clothes.

Well, I have both, or all, or whatever you want to call it. I have fun ones, and antique fancy ones. I’ve bought them myself, and have also received some as gifts.

Here are a very few of the many I have.

Photos show:

  • Childhood pins – letter B, golden horse, black poodle dog, honor society pin
  • another golden horse, a red cross beginning swimmer pin
  • five different cat pins
  • three button pins (political, concert, souvenir)
  • scarab beetle pins
  • Antique oval brooch – gold filigree edges, yellow roses on white background

Thanks for visiting! Peace ☮️

  1. It is nice to see a part of your collection. Thanks for sharing. I loved pins too. I had too many that I never wore. So a few years ago I started gifting them to others who I knew would like them. I have a few still but nothing like the 150+ I had for so long. For me, the few cherished ones are better than many unappreciated ones.

    • Thanks, Lauren! Glad you liked seeing these that I have. It’s nice you are passing some of yours on to people to enjoy, too. I agree that there are a a few that are kept for sentimental reasons, but lots more that were just for fun, and are cute, but really have no big meaning to them. 🙂

    • Thanks, Ellen! Glad you liked seeing some of mine. I haven’t worn any in a long time though, because I never go anywhere. Same goes for my rings and necklaces and bracelets. I’ve thought I’d lost a pin a time or two, only to find it later still pinned to a dress or top hanging in the closet! haha 🙂

  2. What a fun post and collection! I especially like the beetles…. and the cool cats…. and the antiques. You reminded me that I inherited a bango pin from my Aunt Margaret.

    • Thanks, JoAnna! Glad you liked seeing part of my collection. There sure is a pin for just about any subject, and most all are so cute. Most of these were bought just for fun at yard sales or something. If one is gifted to me or inherited or handed down from a relative, that makes it so much more special with meaning. 🙂
