My ears don’t want to hear it, but honestly the TV is right by my computer desk here, and there is no way I can tune it all out.

I’m cringing right now because of the inane TV sitcoms that keep playing. The Mr. keeps the remote all day long, and besides flipping channels every few minutes/seconds, he goes back to the same old sitcoms we’ve seen a thousand times. Over and over I have to sit here listening to stupid plots, fake accents the actors put on – especially bad southern ones – and I want to scream!

Sometimes he lands on something else, like golf games. I don’t like golf or golf on TV either, but it’s much better than those #!@ sitcoms. I’d plug in my earbuds to some music, but on the computer I can do only one thing or another. Watch and listen to a music video (to drown out the TV noise) or read blogs and type and stuff, not both at the same time.

Yeah, we only have the one TV (there is another in a bedroom, but no one watches it), and one computer. I can ignore or whatever any other type of show, but the sitcoms get in my brain and won’t let go. Sometimes when I get a chance, I’ll push mute on the remote for some much needed silence, or go out in the garage for a reading and listening to the oldies radio music break, but it’s so hot out there in the summer and so cold out there in the winter.

Well, enough of this complaining. Hope your weekend is going good. I will just end this with the word ‘yours’.

    • Thanks, Priscilla! I agree! I’ve gotten where I’m bored with all the old shows on TV, and anything new just is not funny or interesting anyway. Don’t even get me started with the news! I try to avoid any of it except the weather parts. 🙂

  1. I can blot out external sounds (and I love having music on when I write), but what I can’t stand is when I do want to watch a TV show and Kevin keeps interrupting it to talk about something, like last night, it was how good the supper he made was…sigh…

    • Thanks, Emily! Most times I can block out the constant noise, but then I hear a word or phrase and I’m right back hearing whatever is on.
I had to laugh because it’s the same here with the Mr. I’ll be reading or typing or something, and he’ll be giving commentary on some golf game, or say ‘look a duck is on the green!’ or whatever. So I look and of course the duck is already gone, and he says ‘aww you missed it!’ haha 🙂

  2. I read somewhere that people watch the same TV shows or movies over and over for a sense of familiarity and comfort. That’s what it’s like for me when I watch Star Trek or certain movies. They are often like background music while I’m on my laptop. My husband, who can’t stand commercials and doesn’t get watching the same thing again and again, is generally in the back room watching fishing woodworking, or racing videos on his laptop.I’ve come to accept this as okay since we eat dinner together and visit each other occasionally during the evening. Every now and then, i’ll find a movie we both enjoy and I get him to sit on the couch with me to watch it with me. It’s nice to have these moments of compromise, but it’s also nice to have our own space at times. I can also understand the need for periods of silence.

    • Thanks, JoAnna! I agree it is relaxing to see a movie or TV show you’ve seen a bunch of times again. Not all are annoying. haha There’s lots I do like. Mostly during the day it’s just background noise.
I saw a book once (I did buy it for my daughter, though, and wish I’d had a copy – can’t remember the name now) anyway it was short observations of things. One was what he called ‘glue movies and TV shows’ I think. That no matter when you happen to run across it randomly, you have to stop and watch it all again, even if it’s in the middle of the show.
There are lots like that for us. 🙂
