Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “least-favorite word.” Use your least-favorite word in your post. If you can’t decide on one, use a word that just really bugs you. Enjoy!

Well, we are to choose our least favorite word. This is a hard one, as I like all kinds of words.

One word that bugs me is this one – Special.

It’s an okay word, and I don’t mind it really, except it is over used.

Not everything can be special. You see it on greeting cards all the time – to a special mom or dad, to a special girl or boy. It’s got to where it’s used so much it has no ‘special’ meaning anymore. It’s bland, one size fits all – except I don’t like it. I avoid any cards that has that sentiment on it.

Another thing is every time I see it I can’t help but think of people being singled out for ‘special education’. I don’t like that. I guess they have to call it something, but it just seems so patronizing, and put in a box to be different. Kind of denigrating a person, looking down on someone.

I don’t know – I just don’t like the word special.

    • Thanks, Janet! He was always one my favorites – so funny with his impressions. What a wonderful encounter you’ve had to actually meet him, and to be able to tape his sister’s wedding for them. 🙂

  1. I don’t care for that word either. And another I don’t like is on amazing, they say that on HGTV all the time. XO
