“Jet” is a song by Paul McCartney and Wings from their third studio album Band on the Run (1973). It was the first British and American single to be released from the album. The song’s title was inspired by McCartney’s black Labrador named Jet.
The song peaked at number 7 on both the British and American charts on 30 March 1974, also charting in multiple countries in Europe. It has since been released on numerous compilation albums, and has since become one of the band’s best-known tracks.
“Jet”, by Paul McCartney & Wings, is from their album, “Band on the Run”. It was written by Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney, and is on the Apple label.

I can almost remember their funny faces
That time you told them you were going to be marrying soon
And Jet, I thought the only lonely place was the moon
Was your father as bold as the sergeant major?
How come he told you that you were hardly old enough yet?
And Jet, I thought the major was a lady suffragette
Ah Mater want Jet to always love me
Ah Mater, much later
Ooh she said
Ooh she said
Ah yeah, yeah
Jet, Jet
Ah Mater want Jet to always love me
Ah Mater, much later
Ooh she said
Ooh she said
With the wind in your hair of a thousand laces
Climb on the back and we’ll go for a ride in the sky
And Jet, I thought the major was a little lady suffragette
Yeah, I thought the major was a little lady suffra…
Jet
A little lady
My little lady, yeah
Thanks for visiting! Peace ☮️

I could have pinned down the time this song was a hit, because it’s one of my Mom’s “Colorado songs” that were big while my Dad was stationed at Fort Carson in late 73/early 74. And now I know why this song is named “Jet” singular and not plural (I always thought it was about planes!)

Thanks, Bill! Great memory of the time period. I like when that happens and we remember things brought back by hearing a song.
I didn’t know about the dog, Jet, either until today. I probably thought it was about a girl with a cool name. 🙂

I read that Jet was written about a jet black Labrador that McCartney owned. The puppy was the runt of a litter. Paul and Linda bought her along a roadside in a little pet shop, out in the country one day. She was a bit of a wild dog, a wild girl who wouldn’t stay in. Great choice Barbara.

Thanks, Jim! Yes! I read that, too, and it’s an interesting thing that happened that led to writing a song about her. Glad you liked hearing it again! 🙂

One of the few Macca songs I like. Like Jim’s note about the pup.

Thanks, Di! It is a good one. We have the LP vinyl album here still, and all the songs on it are good. I didn’t know about the dog either until I read about it today. Pretty cool. 🙂

My mom is a John Lennon fan, but we did listen to Paul’s solo stuff and Wing’s albums too. I remember listening to it when I was a kid and my mom reminiscing the Beatles sound in the “Band on the Run” album.

Thanks, Ai! I like most all Beatles songs, though there are still some that are new to me. It was strange when they all went their separate ways, but I’m glad Paul kept on making music. This album of songs was really good, I think. Glad you like hearing this again. 🙂
